Big Bear Hostel — Hotel in Big Bear Lake

Check in is at 4 pm. I spent the day skiing and came down, parked the car and waited until I was checked in. An phone msg is sent out in the morning of the check-in. For whatever reason, I did NOT get that message. After calling the number on the door for check-in, I was met a few minutes later then the codes for the door to get in and the door to my room. That worked well!||||As others have said, lots of restaurants and shops in the village just a block away. I started in a local brewery and then went down the street to a nice restaurant. There are numerous choices in the area within walking distance.||||WHY SO CHEAP? You will share a bathroom but even though the place was full with other skiers, I had no problem with any waits for a bathroom. The room I got was private, it was simple with up to three bunk type beds. I got a simple desk and a lamp.||||For entertainment, I watched an Amazon movie over their internet. There were no delays on the internet with my surfing or on the movie. I watched on an IPAD.||||VERY CLEAN. My check in was VERY FRIENDLY. It was made clear no guests, nobody should be let in by me and that no alcohol was allowed. The kitchen seemed adequate and I could have stayed very cheaply for several days by cooking my own meals. I’ve backpacked in about 25 different countries and always stay in hostels and my boyfriend and I both agree that this one is the best we have ever stayed at. Right next to the village so everything is a two minute walk away but also nice and quiet. Parking right by the building. Everything is super clean and well maintained. Super huge kitchen to use. Fun communal areas. Rooms are nice and warm at night. And every space is very well thought out (trash cans and paper towels everywhere, curtains for the room windows in the morning, plenty of outlets). Perfect amount of bathrooms that are large and very clean. We haven’t needed for anything during our visit. :)

The owner (sarge) is so on top of everything and is such a great guy. Great WiFi, advice, recommendations, and connections in town (we got a discount everywhere we went in town by saying we were staying at the hostel!).

A+++ would recommend.

This QUIET, AFFORDABLE, FRIENDLY hostel is a large property with two modern houses (both ADA compliant) situated just outside The Village (walking distance)-- one large blue house (for large groups & families) and the smaller, yellow house (for small groups and individuals). I have only stayed at the yellow house-- it has a large kitchen (bring your own food) two large common areas, three bathrooms, and a laundry area. Richard "Sarge" and his lovely wife not only keep the property to Health Dept standards-- they exceed them! There is plenty of parking on the property, and the owner always makes sure that the driveway is clear of snow and ice in the winter. Each building and bedroom has its own key code, which expires when you check out-- they are very security concious, which I can really appreciate as a single female. I visit there off and on to visit friends and get plenty of work done on their very fast...
