My friend and I were driving into town and called the Honey Bear Lodge to see if we could check in early. When we did, the staff said I had accidentally booked the following weekend instead (major moron moment!) I asked if they had any rooms available, and they said they were full up. We began driving around town and checking to see if other places had any vacancies. We finally found one, and as I was booking it, the Honey Bear Lodge called. A couple had canceled last minute, and they offered us their room! Also, they honored the couple's direct booking price, which was $50 less than my Experian price. After heaping tons of praise onto them for saving us, we sped over to get our room.||||The property was amazing! Located only a few minutes' walk from The Village (the down town area with the bars and restaurants) and less than 10 minutes from the beach, you wouldn't know it when pulling into this place. Tucked up into the forest, the lodge had a very secluded vibe to it, despite being so close to the action, making it a perfect location! There's an outside common area with picnic tables, chairs and BBQs, and is lit up at night. The second floor public balconies have stools, tables and chairs overlooking the property with great views of the lake and trees, as well as the stars and moon at night.||||The room was gorgeous as well. The first floor had a bed, futon, TV, wood stove, sink, mini-fridge and bathroom. The second floor loft had a second bed, making it spacious enough for 4 adults or a family. It had a genuine alpine feel (naturally) and was very clean and comfortable.||||The staff was friendly and accommodating, the rooms were clean and quiet, the property was in peak condition (they clearly spend a lot of time and effort maintaining this place) and it was located right by all the places you want to be in Big Bear--while still maintaining a secluded alpine atmosphere. I HIGHLY recommend this place to couples, groups of friends and families looking for a great place to stay in Big Bear. We will be singing it's praises until our next visit. Thanks for a...
Read moreOkay, the place is closed now for renovation. I'm thinking the outside and not the inside but I could be wrong, I stayed in an upper lodge room. Walk in and a bed to your right. Past that and there is a wood stove with a glass door. After that a couch to one side and stairs to the loft on the other. All the way back is small "Kitchen" area and bath. Turn and walk up the stairs and another bed at the top of the loft. Walk thru the sliding glass doors and you come to a very small balcony with a tiny view of the lake. The furniture was all nice and it was clean. The stairs are not dated at all. The room didn't seem dated to me. White plaster walls and all clean. No smell of smoke. I don't know what people mean by saying dated. A big bear motiff. Bears and fish and sleds on the walls. People in the office were friendly and helpful. I mentioned I had been past their place for a few years but never stayed. I came today cause my usual lodge upped their prices. The owner asked me what I paid at that place in the past and she matched it. I found out later she had given me a very good discount. I told her I'd be back. Thank you. I'd stay anytime. The courtyard is all very friendly. A central lot to park your cars close. A few picnic tables and barbeques, and horseshoes to play. All the guests were friendly and one kid carried.my luggage up a flight of stairs for me. I gave him a bag of popcorn the next day. I had an enjoyable stay and met another couple that liked to play gin. Very short walk to the the...
Read moreI booked a room for this upcoming Labor Day weekend about 2 months ago. However, a few weeks ago I found out that I have a rare form of breast cancer that presents as a normal breast lump. It's called phyllodes. The typical treatment for this is surgery, and I wasn't given a very large window of time to plan. I called 6 days ahead (and the day I learned of my surgery) to cancel my room. I was told it would be taken care of. 2 days after my surgery and 2 days before my supposed stay, I received a reminder email (of my stay). At this time my husband called. My initial call was obviously void. We were told by the manager that we would be charged a full night anyway. That we were lucky not be charged the entire weekend due to the holiday. I received a half hearted call back offering $60 if I were to rebook a stay with them, which I obviously couldn't commit to at that moment due to my recovery process. Feeling REALLY supported one month away from breast cancer awareness month. Thank you for caring more about getting your money, then about the health of a potential patron. I will...
