Recently had a kids retreat there for a wonderful experience of faith based education and Bible based experience from secular life and it was a bitter sweet experience. For the most part the kids did have fun and the food was good. The staff were nice, however there was definitely a clash in biblical standards. Secular music at times were an issue and dress code violations for the camp were not under control when it came to the older campers (16-18). We had an incident where a girl was wearing an inappropriate bikini and she accidentally had a malfunction with her bikini top revealing her chest around children from ages 8 to 12. I had to pull my daughter from water play because I did not want her to see anything inappropriate and have the wrong impression of what modesty is. It was handled later on but there was no control over authority. She was addressed and did not listen and she was still allowed to stay at the camp the whole time our group was there. Later, during awards, she did get recognized for her kindness (she is a good kid) but it really spoke Volumes to my daughter that she was basically awarded as a role model. Very disappointing.
We actually had to incorporate our own Bible worship and lessons with Gods given standards during our free time with the biblical standards that we expected to experience. It almost seems that the staff changed how they were doing things when the pastor was there and the activities became more Bible based. After our group leader had multiple discussions with the head of the staff the dynamic started to slightly change. There seemed to be a lot of new age combined with what was advertised to us.
The play equipment was a little outdated but not a major problem. The camp definitely needs a good cleaning and a face lift. The camp definitely needs a seasoned mentor to get things on track with the guidelines of the camp and the core meaning of non secular faith.
If we wanted a secular experience we would have stayed at home or gone to a regular camp.
The staff was fun and kind and did make worship in the morning and evening fun.
There were certain areas throughout the camp that had dangerous pipes and stuff sticking out where someone could get seriously injured playing some of the games. I had to point out it needed to be covered up and we needed to keep the kids out of that alleged area.
The shower knobs were faulty and hard to regulate the water. Miscommunication was a big issue.
There was a lot of positives for the kids for they had fun but as a parent the focus on parental comfort and expectations...
Read moreOur group had an exceptional retreat here in 2000. Amazing that its already 21 years ago, time does fly in the wink of an eye.
And incredibly it was also 2,000 years ago that the first teacher of the "Way", in the west, (yes, the middle-east, is actually considered a part of the western hemisphere. From a complete "total" global perspective.) came down from the mountains. To actually teach the "WAY". Just as the three wise men from the east had foretold.
Please do enjoy your most wonderful time here. My is especially...
