Blue Horizon Lodge — Hotel in Big Bear Lake

The property did not have onsite staff to check-in or check out. They are breaking the rules. There is no cleaning/housekeeping service like any hotel and also the room does not have broom in it. When asked, they said they dont provide it. The wifi was on and off. The location is just off of a two lane road so gets a lot of traffic going in and out. The kids play area stuff was either broken or not kept up. The bed is a full size bed and not queen size. It was very uncomfortable and was making squeaky noise. The futon barely had any cushion. I could feel the wood frame when I lay on it. They lost power in the night and did not have a backup generator. When asked they blamed covid. On insisting that the room is getting cold, they provided firewood. This was not proactively done. It was after calling 5 times. Superficially it looks good and cute, but very uncomfortable to stay. Ok where to start? If I could give it not stars I would! FIrst of all there is no working pool so that is false advertising. The heater worked well and there was a cute bedspread. That is all the good things to say. And it was not filthy but it could be cleaner. I can't even explain the floor. It was so crocked it that if you had been at all under the influence it would have tripped you! YEP!!! The furnuture was so cheap I was afraid I would break it. I am not a super tiny person but I am not that huge either (5'6" 150 lbs) but I would not sit on it! TV was smaller than my computer monitor. Shower curtain was so thin and cheap - not even good enough to be a liner....shall I go on? The price was ridiculous! I would never stay there again! I must say that I enjoyed my stay. Very kind friendly service. I stayed in cabin #10 so my comments are only regarding that cabin. The only reason I didn't give a five ⭐ is due to the location of the fireplace. It was located near the kitchen and couldn't really be enjoyed near the living area. Also be aware that there are instructions near the fireplace not to turn on the fireplace at the same time as the heat is on because the furnace intake pulls the smoke into the cabin. It made the bathroom and bedroom very cold while we ran the fireplace since they were far and separate.

There was a little sledding area near the playground and a sled available, that was a nice touch. Soon as we got there, the kids were having fun. We got very lucky and had snow falling while we where there. Very nice property...
