Really 4.3 Stars. My boyfriend and I went here for Valentines Day. I am glad we went. I was hesitant to come here because of the pictures. The pictures do not do the restaurant justice. It’s much more attractive in person. The inside is very nice. The service is exceptional. I’ve been to five star restaurants that fall short of the service this restaurant provided. There were staff members everywhere working. Our waiter was very kind and respectful. He was prompt, swift, attentive and very patient. My cocktail was exceptional and the steak was also pretty good as well. My latte was also decent. I did appreciate that we had no issues with our reservation and that they called us promptly when I dropped my bracelet. I have a couple minor requests for the future. We both ordered our steaks medium but they came mostly medium rare with some parts rare. It was juicy and tasty but my boyfriend did skip eating some of it for that reason. They did ask us if everything was alright and we said it was. We didn’t ask them to put it back on because it’s never the same when they recook it. Even though I wish it was less pink, the steak was tasty and flavorful and the plate presentation was wonderful as well. The cut of steak it’s self also seemed to be of high quality. To be fair the meal was very good but it had the capability of being a five star meal. The dessert we had was very good and it was different which I appreciated because desserts these days seem to be flat and bland or over done. I personally also would have chosen different music to fit the theme but that could be a personal preference. All in all it was a beautiful night and we will definitely be coming back again. We are hoping to stay at the hotel next time. :)

For the price point, I have never had such disappointing food. Just had brunch/ watched the World Cup. The eggs in my “French” omelette were rubbery to the point it was difficult to eat. The people I was with both had the hash and the potatoes were undercooked and their eggs far over cooked. Additionally, nothing was salted— at all— I don’t understand how bacon can be bland but apparently it’s possible. Additionally, the food took nearly 45 minutes to arrive, which I could excuse if it was done well, and I get that Sunday brunch can be difficult for staff, but come on y’all, no quality control. No one ever asked us how our food was until they were clearing the plates and I was asked if I wanted a box and I responded no because I didn’t finish the omelette due to rubberiness. Kylie the bartender was great and the only redeeming thing about the experience.

I went to this restaurant in july for my birthday, after quarantine time. The restaurant was not busy we sat outside . The food was good but not fabulous, customer service was good but not amazing they don't have any lights outside so when the sunset come up we felt we have to go, they dont have any decorations on the table The price is expensive for nothing special . It is in a nice area Birmingham downtown and nice walking after you are done

Updated review there needs to be a better system in that kitchen I ordered fries and there was dirt on them no joke had to send back, clearly the bowl they toss them in with salt was not cleaned, we wanted to order an ice cream Sunday and every 5 star hotel will make you an ice cream even if it’s not on the menu, they said they didn’t have chocolate sauce to make one or sprinkles but they did there best with whip cream and straw berries but still ice cream tasted freezer burnt with dessert. Tried to order something to drink like a club soda they said machine is broken just not a quality experience these are the little things and we all know that bread basket is not freshly baked there and those prices are competitive with Ocean Prime, my opinion stands as my previous review below I will add to the townsendp hotel someone need to go through that kitchen check the expiration date on those ice creams or better yet make home made like the luxury hotels. The four seasons would never.

Previous review Ambiance is ok use to be better, wedding and events menu is nice, however the restaurant it self is lacking they need a major remodel if the do not continue to upgrade they will close, if they want to compete with the 5 star luxury hotels like the montage and 1 hotels they need to make the menu fresher, sexier as Gordon Ramsey would say. It needs an upgrade, pancakes, cocktails, Cesar salad are the only decent thing and the açaí yogurt parfait. Fries are cooked in old oil, the burger is extremely dry, decor and ambience needs a refresh, they need to make it more contemporary and fresh promote organic local farm to table ingredients, my Advice for the Townsend hire a new young chef who has traveled across the globe and worked in the most top notch hotels and restaurants and then they will be back better than ever, so much potential for a great location rebrand the restaurant make it better and it will be back to millions in revenue and high profile...

I can’t believe I am leaving a One Star review for this restaurant because We love our Birmingham restaurants and we do love this hotel.

The restaurants finally being open had us extremely excited to have a special dinner at the Rugby Grille with our two daughters and their significant others. We have had a handful of experiences here over the last 5 years. All have been decent however after tonight I cannot imagine we will ever be back.

There were 6 of us tonight. 4 out of 6 had awful meals. For the price you pay for a nice steak there is no excuse for well done filets when you order some medium and others medium rare. The salmon I ordered medium also came out well done. Alll meals should have been sent back but the three filets were the ones sent back tonight. The salmon, I ate what I could because I was very hungry when I arrived. I ate a third of my meal, the rest t was pitched.

When the waiter came to check on us and discovered how over done our steaks were, he took them back and had them prepare new meals. 15-20 minutes later after the rest of us were done eating, the new steaks were brought out. They were cooked ok but the flavor and quality were lacking. Ok. Still no manager came over to see how our meal was or to see what they could do to make our night better. Extremely disappointing. In the end a $500 meal that was NOWHERE near that worth.

We value our local restaurants. We do not mind paying for good service. Good food or a combination of both, but this was lacking both. Who does this as a”nice upscale” restaurant?

More than disappointing! They have lost our business. We had great experiences at Hyde Park steakhouse , Streetside Seafood and Bella Piatti during the shut down. Will re-visit them next time.

Do not waste your money...
