My experience at this hotel was horrible. Room was great, service terrible. This is not the first time at this hotel, but never will I return again after this experience. When I first called to book a room, the front desk staff told me their system was down and they were unable to process the transaction. She informed me that I needed to call the 1-800 number and book it through them. After calling the number and providing my credit card information to book the room, I later arrived to be informed that the room that I paid for was unavailable and then, he proceeded to read me a "list" of the rooms that were available. I expressed my disappointment and after 15 minutes, he "found" a room. Never in my life have I had such difficulty checking into a hotel room. It was absolutely dreadful. Finally, after another 15min waiting in the lobby (other people are in line as well, and yes there were about 5-6 people in line because he was so slow) he handed me the keys to the hotel room.
In the morning, I requested a late check out and the latest check out time was 11:30 AM ET. Their normal check out time is 11:00 AM ET. That in itself was disappointing. Late check out times vary among the many different hotels of course, but usually they will allow you to stay between 12-1 PM ET. At your check out time, you will hear a trash can (with wheels) being DRAGGED outside your door and then, a banging on your door to inform you that your time is up, seriously. I let the lady at the door know that I was leaving now.
NOW THIS IS THE PART THAT WAS REALLY GOT ME ANGRY.
I dialed "0" to let the front desk person know that I was checking out of my room. He asked me to come down for the receipt, I informed him that I have an emailed confirmation already and did not need the receipt. He then, told me that there WAS NO CREDIT CARD on file and I needed to come down because their was no record of payment. I said "Impossible" I gave the operator my credit card information OVER THE PHONE as well as CHECKED INTO the room." The front desk would have requested payment while I was in the lobby. What hotel gives out a HOTEL ROOM to a person without taking any payment information??? He told me I needed to come down to the lobby again because their was NO transaction processed. Now, I am asthmatic and this was starting to really get my blood boiling because of his attitude and everything adding up at this point. I needed to go to my car to get my inhaler and as I was leaving the room, he literally was standing in the parking lot CHASING ME DOWN so I was not to leave. He DID NOT ALLOW ME TO GET MY INHALER from my car and had me follow him back into the lobby. After entering the lobby, he stood behind the computer "looking" up information about my online reservation. He insisted that there was no credit card on file and/or payment of cash. I told him again, the operator was giving my card information and it had been processed. He said he reviewed the tapes and the video did not show payments. He also, informed me that there was no evidence of any transaction and requested that I swipe my card again!!! THANKFULLY, before doing so I pulled up my account history on my phone to review my credit card transactions, AND SURE ENOUGH there was THE CHARGE. I showed him the PROOF of PAYMENT in disgust and STILL HE SAID I CAN'T FIND THE CHARGE IN OUR SYSTEM, will you call your bank?? I said for what, you see the DAMN CHARGE. Then he proceeded to LIE about how hotels show a "pending" status and does not necessarily reflect payment. AT THAT POINT, I said I paid for the room, HERE IS THE PROOF. Keep in mind it's been 30 minutes already. He again stared at the computer and asked for the last 4 digits of my card and JUST LIKE THAT, there it was! He then stated that rate that was intended to be charged, however, my credit card processed a rate MUCH HIGHER than he stated !!! He apologized and said he would be giving me a call the next day to reverse the charge to reflect the "correct" amount. We will see if that EVER HAPPENS. Corporate will...
Read moreRUN!!! Run!!! Run!!! Far away from this horrible establishment. If I could give this place a zero star rate I would. I never leave reviews on pages, but made a special exception for this because I want to spare someone else the experience I had. The pictures in their website showing the rooms are so far filtered I question if it’s even the same room at all. I have never experienced a worse experience traveling than my stay in this crap hole. Crap hole is putting it lightly too. I have stayed in Red Roof in the past and know what I should expect in what I am paying and this fell so short on even basic human hotel amenities. To start, There are so many sketchy people standing around, openly smoking and doing drugs, despite the no smoking signs. Let’s not even begin to mention the people openly drinking outside the main office and being disorderly. If you’re going to have a rule for that posted. Enforce the rule. Moving on to the rooms itself. The first room we get, the door didn’t open because it was broken. We get a second room and the door didn’t lock properly. I ended up barricading the door so I would be alerted if someone came in because I didn’t trust what they had on the doors. The toilet didn’t flush at all. The sheets were stained and dirty. There was sticky stuff on the bedside table. I don’t even want to know what that was. Just eww. the room smelled like someone poured chemicals all over to mask the scent of decay. I would have requested a new room because of the not working toilet, but because of the serious security issues around the property I didn’t want to leave the room again. If it hadn’t been so late into the night I would have left all together. If this could be 0 stars I would. This place should be shut down. Surprised the police aren’t taking up residence outside because of the clear illegal activity going on in the parking lot alone. I would feel safer staying in a hostile and would before staying in this place again. The only redeeming factor is the new female employee working who was very nice as she helped me check out and refund the other nights we were supposed to stay. We stayed in this hotel no more thank 7 hours before checking out and refunding the remaining nights. Went up the road, paid $20 more and got the basic amenities red roof...

My wife and I work on the road. We booked this hotel for its low price and location near Decatur. We stayed for 3 nights. It was terrible and NOT worth the money.
Our first night, there was a power outage for more than an hour at around 4a. I require medical equipment to sleep (Oxygen and CPAP). My equipment faulted out, alarmed and I didn't sleep a wink for another 2 days. I asked the front desk for information and they said the whole neighborhood was affected... except at 5am I walked outside and the hotels across the street all had power. We were the only hotel affected.
I asked for a refund so we could move to a hotel that didn't have power problems and the GENERAL MANAGER became aggressive and assured me that it is not their policy to give refunds out. I was invited to cancel my reservation but I would not receive my money back.
My wife works night shift (nurse) and on our last day she was delayed leaving the hospital until 10am. We contacted the front desk to ask for a late checkout so she could get a nap and a shower after her 18 hour day... an hour or two would be a blessing.
Here are some excerpts from that call: we are sorry you worked last night we do not offer late checkout the GM confirms that we have never and will never offer late checkout you must have your things removed by 1130 or you will lose them and your room key deactivated before 9am so your wife will have to park at the room, walk the entire length of the hotel, get a new keycard, and be out of the room in an hour.
So, the room itself is... interesting. The lights above the sink were burnt out, old soap bars were dried out and stuck to the room sink, and there was a puddle of nasty water in the bathtub when we checked in.
The room was remodeled in the last few years and we had a very firm bed. Extra pillows? Costs $. Minifridge? Costs $. I think Red Roof is trying to become the Frontier Airlines of budget hotels.
Overall, we will NEVER use Red Roof again. We stay in hotels 15+ nights per month. We took a risk and lost BIG. Red Roof isn't worth...
