I recently stayed at the Super 8 in Burlington, IA. Normally, when I am traveling I tend to steer away from any hotel chain with a number in itâs name. Sometimes though, circumstances are what they are and you have to take lodging in one of the more discount places. I will have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. When I checked in, it was pretty busy and it just got busier as I was waiting to check in. The front desk girl was a character but managed to handle all the mayhem with a smile on her face. Even when a few rude and demanding customers cut the line, she handled everything better than I would have. The room itself was no frills but clean, and had everything we could need. Comfortable bed. Plenty of towels. I didnât feel like I was staying in a bargain hotel and I think that says a lot. It was crazy hot outside but nice and cool in my room. There were several kids staying in the hotel, but I didnât hear them which I am very thankful for. Bottom line, I had a pleasant stay and a good nightâs sleep. What more could I ask for?
The first thing to keep in mind when reviewing a hotel like this, I think, is that it is a Super 8 and not a Hilton/Radisson/higher end hotel. I have stayed at a lot of Super 8s in my lifetime and comparing this place to other Super 8s it is definitely above average. This was my second time staying here. I was a little concerned at first because as I was checking in a team of baseball players (teenagers) were just finishing up. I was actually amazed by how quiet it was. They put me on the 3rd floor in the corner, which I felt was very convenient for parking and parking lot access. Each room has a fridge and microwave, which is a nice bonus, and breakfast (and USA Today!) is available in the lobby when you leave in the morning. Itâs located just down the street from a casino, so if thatâs your thing itâs a great location. Itâs also convenient to many restaurants and gas stations but never feels like you are stuck right next to a freeway. If you want a nice, quiet, clean place to stay while in Burlington, save some money and stay...
Read morePulling up to the hotel, one of the first things you may notice is the exposed wires and the riding mower thats looks to be half taken apart. As you walk into the lobby you will be greeted by the smell of Marijuana, stale cigarette smoke, and a dirty musty smell. When you arrive at your room after carrying your luggage up stairs because there is no elevator, the first thing you will notice is the overwhelming smell of urine, and Marijuana. As you walk into the room you pass the bathroom. There you will find the towels that should be white, but are now Grey and look to be dirty. The toliet has poop stains, and the floor is sticky. The tub looked to have dried pee in it and the shower head is about chest level when standing in the shower. As you go the rest of the way into room, you with find a very dirty, and sticky floor. It also was covered in little bits of toilet paper. The bed sheets looks dirty, and they are stained. Called the front desk, they said there are no clean towels or sheets where available. The furniture in the room is dirty, broken, and stained and has sticky areas on it. The desk chair was broken and a safety hazard. There were outlets with wires sticking out of the wall. A hole was in the wall. The fridge and microwave worked but we're very dirty, and didn't look safe for food. The TV screen was covered in hand prints and smudges and made it hard to watch. The window in the room was broken, and the AC sounded like a blown engine on a freight train. The breakfast in the morning was not appetizing. I couldn't eat it and the food was very questionable. The lady manning the front desk used it as a daycare and a free meal for several kids. I recommend that nobody stay here ever, at all, for any reasons. The only good part about it was the hotel was close to my work, and other hotels that you are going to want to move to. The price was cheap, but it could have been free and would not be worth the price. I would give 0 stars if I could, but that would still be to much. Stay anywhere else but this place. It needs to be closed down for health and...
Read moreI moved to Burlington for a job opportunity and was going insane with worry about a place to stay when I found The Super 8. My room was clean and had everything i needed for an extended stay. That included weekly rates that the front desk told me about immediately. I thought I'd have to get rid of my puppy but they welcomed him too for a set rate. I loved the continental breakfast which is extended to weekly guests too. I seen a review saying a guy had a negative experience because he was black but so am I. I've never been treated badly buy any of the staff and the people who bought the hotel are freaking amazing and beyond helpful. I explained my situation and they all went out of their way to help us and make our stay great. I seen a review saying horrible things about pets being here because people have allergies. They have rooms where pets haven't been. I watched them accommodate everyone with very little thanks. As someone whose worked at a hotel I see things differently. I also know it's hard to satisfy everyone. They took over from the last owner and they have been renovating all of the rooms with brand new everything but the prices are still exactly the same.... affordable. If I need to stay in a hotel again, I'm definitely going straight to them. If you guys ever see my review I sincerely thank the owners, front desk, and housekeeping for always going above and beyond for my family. Being a kind person will always get you...
