We always stay at Marriotts and have a fairly high member status within the Marriott points reward system. They are reliably clean, well-kept, and offer outstanding service. This TownePlace Suites was what we imagined a low-grade motel would be like. Below is a list of everything that was wrong:||||First impression: unplowed parking lot (all the other hotels around this one were || nicely plowed.||Our floor smelled of either ethnic food (no restaurant on property) or weed.||Kitchen & bathroom floors were sticky. (Not so of other Marriotts during COVID.)||Hallway carpet was dirty.||Frayed carpeting in room||Carpeting in room not clean--many stains & spots||No dishwashing liquid or dishwasher detergent in room (How were all the utensils,|| etc. getting cleaned???)||Base of the TV stand was badly, visibly damaged.||Refrigerator was wobbly.||Corners where walls met were badly in need of repair and paint.||Bathroom floor was dirty in the corners.||Clocks in the kitchen appliances were not set to correct time.||Floor lamp was wobbly.||Sink faucet was loose.||Hook in bathroom was loose.||Only 1 of 2 track lights in ceiling was working.||No plastic bag was available for laundry.||Middle drawer of one nightstand wouldn't close.||No "Do not disturb" sign was available--had to make our own.||There was sticky goo on top of one of the nightstands.||No soap for shower||There was soap scum on the shower soap holder. (Apparently someone had || soap!)||Exhaust fan in bathroom not working.||Ice Machine was disgusting!||All but one time there was no one in attendance at the front desk. One time the || person who looked like she was supposed to be there was in a corner on her cell|| phone.||Except for our initial arrival, we were never greeted or even acknowledged. Twice|| we waited 5 minutes for someone to come to the desk. (The first time that || happened, no one came so we gave up.)||*When we left, we were not asked how things were or how our stay was. Unheard of|| at a Marriott!||We had 2 pre-paid nights and stayed the first night because we were tired and didn't want to research an alternate hotel at that point. We checked out the next day (early) and rather than asking why we were doing that, the front desk person only pointed out that we would not get the rate for which we had paid. Never bothered to ask why we were leaving early. Very unfriendly staff!||||My husband called Marriott as soon as we left and they were great! Apologized and agreed that the hotel was not up to Marriott standards at all. They opened a case file for us and said we would hear back from a manager. This was on a Friday morning. By Monday afternoon, my husband hadn't heard from anyone so he called Marriott back. They were again, very apologetic and said that our case had been closed because the manager of the hotel told them he had indeed connected with us! Wow! Lies on top of the terrible experience we had! Marriott gave us extra points because of the delay. The next day the manager did email my husband and apologized but was full of excuses, about the snow, about COVID, and something about "good thing we don't live in Texas!" Well, it snows in Michigan every year. That is not an excuse. We have stayed in Marriotts throughout the pandemic and not once was any of them dirty, in disrepair, nor did we receive horrible customer service. The Marriott name has absolutely NO BUSINESS being on the front of this hotel! (We did finally get one night refunded but with all of the excuses, we felt the manager could have done better.)||||I am a teacher and my husband is in customer service. Believe me, we will be...
Read moreI always stay here when I travel, the rooms are always nice, the service is ok and the area of the hotel is nice as well. Not perfect, but a good place at any rate. Well this past weekend I was on my business trip to the area as usual, with everything going on in our world today I was a little hesitant about staying at a hotel again, but it’s business and my career so..... so, I’m at the front desk asking for an extra towel, when I see a gentleman with the most angriest look on his face. He’s calling the front desk man like he’s his dog for one. Snapping his finger, standing with his chest pumped out and complaining and speaking loud enough for the people outside to hear. He had some issues with his room and the guy gave him another room that I heard and witnessed, as far as I could see how the man was able to handle this customer was a miracle. I would of lost it, I know it’s a business and it’s his job but that’s the problem in our world today. We as people talk down to one another and make demands and treat each other as animals instead of brothers and sisters, were all equal, were all brothers and sisters and kids of god and we all bleed the same color. This man, he immediately went to the race card, he was the only person talking about it’s because I’m black right, and I was there and witnessed the whole situation with my own eyes. Why do we have to bring up race always, isn’t there enough racism in our world today as it is, why must we go to the race card always. Does racism exist? Absolutely, 100 percent, I have witnessed it myself in my lifetime on several occasions, but this was not about race or color or ones skin color. It was about a customer who was upset with his room situation and could of been easily handled without shouting and yelling and names calling or defying ones ethnicity. Keep in mind, this man was drinking while he’s telling the guy at the front desk that the people upstairs are being too loud, with his chest out and while he’s yelling and being hostile. Now, nothing is wrong with having a drink, we all do it right? But to come and start shouting, being rude, calling out ones race or your race about your room and some loud noise was just insane to me. I can’t believe we as humans talk to each other and disrespect each other so much nowadays. We need to come together more than ever with Covid 19 and all the police brutality, the racism and the violence over something that was just an easy fix, just upsets me and makes me think that I am scared for my children and the future that lies ahead of us if we don’t make some tremendous changes with how we treat, talk, handle and care for one another. Let’s come together as one, and stop all the hate and racism. It’s hard for one to do it, it’s actually impossible, but if we come together as a whole||Nation and back one another and treat each as how god intended us to do, then we can make the change necessary for us and our future children and family to have a good and safe life for them. To show them it doesn’t matter if your white, black, Chinese, Arabic, Muslim, Christian or yellow. We all are human beings and brothers and we all are equal. It’s time we come together and end this nonsense like I witnessed this weekend. Thanks and have a great day and love one another always like their your neighbor, brother, sister and like we’re one and on...
Read moreUpdate: Second night at this hotel. The AC was not on the hallway of the floor we were on...it was in the 90s outside. When I reached to take my ice bucket from the ice machine black mold, buildup, or whatever fell from the machine onto my hand. The toilet, shower, and bedside tables were not cleaned, when told about the unclean toilet, nothing was done. The silverware and dishes were not replaced. Wash clothes and face towels were not replaced, in spite of leaving towels on the floor as an indication for replacement. When I requested more face cloths and towels , I didn't receive them in a timely manner, as in: AT LEAST within the hour, but please, at least within the same evening. A bag of trash...from another room, was left in the corner of the my room. And, although minor... even the cheapest hotel provides a plastic bag in the closet for laundry, but not here. There was a raised staple in the carpet... that Im glad I stepped on and not my children. To top it all off...most of the staff provided an attitude each time they were asked to rectify anything. The discount issue pales in comparison to the service. The devil is in the details. Quality control is obviously not on the payroll here. I wish I had read Google reviews... the rating is lower than booking websites and reflects more accurately my experience here.
Very disappointing! 1st: We came with reservations made by a Marriot employee, for a very cheap price, but because we were not parents of the employee, we were not allowed to use the discount and were charged about $109, which was a FAR cry from the parent rate. Horrifying after traveling out of town and NOT really KNOWING of the policy for family discounts, but...ok. We get in the rooms and the floor is not vacuumed in either room (we booked 2 rooms). Always the first indicator of a flophouse for me, especially when I have my children there. If the floor has been neglected what else has also been neglected? My husband used to work for a 5 start hotel, so we are pretty scrutinizing. 2nd this place is REALLY SMALL! the pictures on Expedia are quite deceiving. We had a king bed with a sofa bed couch, which when let out took up all the walking space in the room! You couldnt even get from one side of the room to next if you slept on a certain side of the king bed. The construction of the room was also odd to me, but you will see if you stay here. The floor we were on smelled like a dingy apartment and even when we switched floors, the floor was still not vacuumed. I would not stay here again unless it was a last resort, I have stayed at a few other hotels next door and I would HIGHLY recommend the Fairfield. It was immaculate every time I have stayed there. It was alway clean and the rooms are much more spacious. I guess Townplace would have been cool if I didnt have my children, but the price is wack considering the experience. Do yourself a favor and go to the Fairfield. Frankly the discounted price wouldnt have made my stay any better and I would have liked to pay more just to stay at the Fairfield. This place is ok, but for the price its a joke...and not...
