My mom and I just returned from our trip to Cape May. We did this trip approximately 20 years ago and stayed at Captain Mey's Inn and had a wonderful trip. We thought , after all these years, it would be a great idea to plan a much needed mother-daughter trip together and Cape May seemed like the perfect idea. So we decided to make our reservation at Captain Mey's Inn since we had enjoyed it so much years ago.||||Well, unfortunately, Captain Mey's Inn was a big disappointment. I chose to treat us to one of the more expensive rooms on the third floor but really wish I hadn't. Aside from all of the taxes applied to the bill, I had to pay $15 for housekeeping which resulted in a rather hefty bill. I had booked the room for 2 nights so technically, the housekeeping charge of $15 was just for one day of cleaning for us since obviously the room had to be cleaned before our first arrival day and then would need to be cleaned on our departure day for the next guests. ||||The room does have a very large bathroom, which I did like, but the rubber on the bottom of the shower door was warped and old so the shower door would not completely close and remained open about 3 inches when we showered. In addition, the plastic wall unit they have in the shower to dispense shampoo, conditioner, and soap was missing the nozzle you press for conditioner. I only use my own toiletries on trips but just thought that this was ridiculous considering the price for the room.||||My biggest complaint is the lack of hospitality. When I arrived, I waited in the lobby for approximately 10 minutes and called out "hello" several times but no one was to be found. I then went back outside and rang the doorbell several times and was finally greeted by the Inn keeper but it was very quick and I never saw her again the entire trip. In fact, I never saw anyone except other guests the entire time. |||| I soon realized that there was no breakfast included. This was so upsetting. I later saw that it does state this on the website but failed to look too clearly when I booked the room. I was just assuming it is a bed and breakfast and that breakfast would be included. When my mom and I stayed there on our initial trip years back the Inn offered afternoon tea time daily on the porch with baked goods, tea, lemonade... and that was one of our favorite experiences where we got to sit and relax and meet other guests.||||There are a few positives with the Inn. I think it is a very beautiful looking Inn, particularly on the outside and the porch is surrounded by beautiful plantings. The location of the Inn is also great since it is in walking distance to the beach and to the shopping area/restaurants. ||||Unfortunately, at this time, I would not recommend this Inn. There are may places to stay in Cape May and to pay such a high price for the rooms at Captain Mey's Inn I would absolutely expect to be given some sort of hospitality as well as something for breakfast, even if it is just fresh brewed coffee and baked goods such as croissants and muffins.||||I generally don't like to leave negative reviews but since this was a costly experience for us I thought it was important to honestly let others know what to expect so that they won't be disappointed as well. I do love Cape May but was just so upset that I was able to talk my eighty year old mother into going on a trip and thought that Captain Mey's Inn would be one of the highlights since we both loved it so much years back. Fortunately, aside from the Inn, we did have a...
Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay at Captain Mey’s. Rita was so very friendly and charming and a pleasure to sit with and chat. The Inn is simply gorgeous and well maintained. Filled with Victorian charm and quirks but also had many modern conveniences. The (quality brand name) coffee, water dispenser and ice dispenser, beach chairs and towels to name a few. The little details that matter were well thought out here. We absolutely loved sitting on the large beautiful porch to read, enjoy cocktails and coffee and people watch. We also ate several meals at the nice tables provided and felt like we had the best meal side view! Plus it was surrounded by the most lush amazing gardens. |We stayed in the Captain Mey room and found it exceedingly comfortable and clean. Wonderful plush bed, fridge and large bathroom. Loved having our own private entrance too, so we could easily go in and out to the porch. |The Inn is so conveniently located, nestled just between the shops and restaurants on one side and beach on the other. Super quick and simple walks anywhere we wanted to go. |We plan to come back again soon and as often as we can! Such a slice of paradise in a beautiful quiet town. Thank you for everything, Rita and take good...
Read moreAmazing location, with opportunities for improvement.
My husband and I have been visiting Cape May for over thirty years, so we've stayed in many of the B&B's as a couple and then with our children. We love the city and the variety of places to stay.
With our grown daughter in town, we made a last-minute decision to enjoy a few days together in Cape May and was fortunate to find a three-bedroom option at Captain Mey's Inn. Due to our late arrival the owner provided the necessary information to access the B&B and our room. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a decent size bathroom located just outside of our room.
We loved the location to both Washington street and the Ocean Avenue. We love porches so we took full advantage of the front porch.
The only element that was missing was having a chance to meet the owner of the B&B and some type of assortment of cookies or snacks in the afternoon, which is typical at most establishments in Cape May. We were aware they don't serve breakfast but it might of been nice to meet the other guests in the house over coffee and cookies.
It was clean, comfortable and convenient so overall we...
