Had made a last-minute decision to attend a family event in Carmel, but found myself way priced out of the fancier hotels. My daughter suggested I look into availability at the Monte Verde Inn - she described this B&B-style motel as "having everything ya need." And that pretty much sums it up.| |Yes these buildings (east and west across the street from each other) are old -- rooms are a bit small and creaky in spots, with thin doors and walls. The bathroom is tight and could use a facelift that should include adequate counter space.| |All that is mitigated by nice linens, comfy bed, great location in the center of everything (and right near the beach), mellow vibe, and a nice-sized refrigerator inside the armoire that actually kept food and drink ice cold.||Parking -- in my case in the east building -- was included and literally right at the front of the door to the room. Check-in welcome from Randy in the office was a delight. Breakfast is delivered in a cute basket promptly between 8 and 8:15 a.m. with a gentle knock at your door, and includes a bagel or muffin, fruit, yogurt, hard boiled egg, fresh oj in a "Ball" jar, real silverware and cloth napkins. ||Each room also comes with a decanter of Sherry, four pretty wine glasses and a coupla Lindt chocolates. The hardwood floor was exceptionally clean, the heat worked well, the shower was hot with good water pressure, the shampoo/conditioner and lotion brand was great, and the towels fluffy. ||It was just about perfect for the $200 discounted rate I had found on Expedia; not sure it's worth a whole lot more -- or how this small 'Queen' room would have felt with two ppl in it. But for just one, it...
Read moreProbably the worst lodgings I have ever stayed in. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU VALUE SLEEP AND REASONABLE NOISE LEVELS. Everything mentioned in every prior poor review occurred. The walls, floors, and windows are paper thin. You can hear every word people utter in the adjacent rooms not to mention every move they make. You can hear people walking on the staircase more than 4 rooms away and on the walkway to get to their rooms. They share a driveway with an adjoining restaurant and the restaurant staff roll out their trash cans at 10pm and back at 6am in the morning so no need to set an alarm for your bedtime or morning, that is if the people staying above you haven't woken you up already at 530am after keeping you awake until 11pm with their footsteps, talking and luggage maneuvering. It is located right on the main downtown street of Carmel so every morning you get to also hear all the vans and trucks driving to the restaurants and shops to set up for the day. People will walk past your window to get to the main street so you get to hear other people's conversations non stop. All of these things are normal, typical activities but due to the nonexistent sound insulation they were intolerable. The bed is like a water bed, every time your partner moves the entire bed will roll like a tsunami. The room is dated but not dirty and reasonable enough. The staff are hospitable. The breakfast basket is convenient. There is not enough parking, you have to park a block over in the residential area. The hotel location is walkable to the beach and downtown. The actual hotel building however will ruin any charm and...
Read moreCozy, comfortable, friendly, and very clean. Quick, last minute getaway for us. Excellent check-in, welcomed by Randy with friendly guidance on parking and local faire. The room was hidden, like a cottage. Very old but quaint and inviting. Linens were by-far above average for comfort and cleanliness. While the room was quite small, the outdoor sitting area was very peaceful and comfortable; a great place to meet new friends. Much about this stay was perfect, aside from a few quirks. The adjacent Normandy Inn was just feet away from our room. We loathed the wafting cigarette smoke from neighboring patrons (gives quite a bad impression of that hotel and clientele, will be certain to not consider it in the future). Also, the neighboring housekeeping staff were quite loud and annoying. The primary issue was the plumbing on our room. It all worked well but could use some upgraded pressure regulation. When the cold water is called (likely a toilet flushing in another room), multiple times, I was near scalded in the shower and had to wait until the previous pressure resumed. Other than that, grateful for exceptionally friendly staff, responsive maid service, and overall an delightful visit!
Oh, one more thing! The European breakfast delivered every morning was perfect, along with the in-room "Carmel Coffee Roasting Company" coffee. Thank you for all your hard work taking...
