Great location, friendly staff and clean rooms. I was a little nervous when I saw this was the hotel my group was booking at, you can tell from the photos it is a little outdated. But in the end was a better stay than I had expected. ||First the bad. The room decor is bright and furniture is old. If you are uncomfortable with stains on furniture this might not be the place for you. I did have a small issue with the smell by the bathroom, and the wet floor that caused it, but I was only in for one night so it was easy to work around. A few of the lamp plugs did not work, a lot of them really, which caused me to think the blow dryer didn’t work. I called the front desk and replacement was brought up right away. I then realized it was just most of the outlets that were faulty. ||Now the good…. everything was very clean, the amenities that mattered were new, and every interaction I had with staff was friendly. We arrived late, but we’re greeted and checked in quickly. I had asked for a room with a balcony which was honored. I was happily surprised by how big my room was, and liked the setup better than most. The desk chair and desk were actually great for working in the morning. The mattress was comfortable, which is important to me. I like a medium/softer bed for reference. There was nice new patio furniture on the large balcony. I like that they still have some rooms with balconies, I like fresh air and access to a functional door or window which is rare at hotels anymore. ||The top item that impressed the heck out of me though, was Donna at the front desk. She went above and beyond twice for me in my very short stay. I need coffee in the morning. Usually at hotels if I wake too early and the restaurant isn’t open I will grab a cold Starbucks can from the market, but it’s not the same. I went down at 5:30 and the restaurant had not opened yet. I started to walk towards the market, and confirmed with Donna that they opened at 6. She asked me what I needed and I told her. She asked what size and if I needed anything else, and ran back to the kitchen. She could have easily said “yup, they open at 6 see you then” but instead she went ahead and helped me out. The coffee was great! It really made a difference in my day. I truly appreciated that kindness. Also when my blow dryer did it work as mentioned above it was Donna that brought one up, and was friendly the whole time. Thank you Donna! ||Overall the hotel itself is nice, but rooms could use some updating. You can tell they have replaced some of the things that matter most, like the desk chairs and mattresses. I was impressed by the service, and...
Read moreDisappointing Hotel Stay Due to Lack of Communication I must say our visit to Wilmington was far from the experience we were hoping for. Unfortunately, the trip was marked by a series of disappointments and miscommunication by the hotel.
First and foremost, my husband and I had booked a king room, only to arrive and discover that due to renovations, we were placed in a double Queen room instead. This was not the room we had paid for, and the hotel failed to notify us about this significant change in advance. It was an immediate letdown, as we were looking forward to a more comfortable and spacious accommodation. If we had been informed king rooms were on a first come first served basis, as Marriott Bonvoy members, we would have checked in days before arriving. Had we been informed at the time of booking about the possibility of not receiving the king room we booked, we would have had time to consider a different hotel.
The lack of communication didn't end there. We were also unaware that the hot tub at the hotel was out of order. It was only when we went to use it that we discovered it was non-functional, with no signage to the fact. This was a further disappointment as we had been looking forward to relaxing in the hot tub as part of our stay.
Overall, the lack of transparency and communication was a major letdown. When guests make reservations, they expect to receive the accommodations and amenities they paid for and were promised. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of those expectations.
I hope that Marriott will improve its communication with guests in the future, especially when it comes to notifying them about significant changes like room accommodations, renovations, and the status of amenities. This would go a long way in preventing such disappointments and ensuring a more positive guest experience.
I hope the hotel can learn from this and take steps to prevent similar situations for future guests. A simple email at the time of booking would have prevented our wedding weekend visit to Wilmington from being an utter...
Read moreTo Whom It May Concern: I am writing to file a formal complaint that I have been wrongly accused of smoking in my hotel room at a recent stay at the Courtyard Wilmington Brandywine. I stayed there on Fri 11/14 in Room 308. This absolutely did not happen, and I am extremely upset about the events that have taken place, and in all honesty feel that this was some way to get money from me because my stay was free by using my points. The evening manager saw us multiple times go outside to smoke, and I also know that this was captured on hotel surveillance as well. Why on earth would I go outside multiple times to smoke, and turn around to smoke in the room? I am a working professional who works with many hotels, and many Marriott venues, as well as running my own business, and I have NEVER been accused of this before. I spoke with the hotel manager, Patricia, and she even admitted to me that initially they did not know what room on the 3rd floor the smoke was originating from, but somehow came to the conclusion that it was from my room. They also claim there is picture evidence, but she or myself have yet to see it, and it has now been 1 week. It is also impossible that there is any evidence, because the smoking DID NOT HAPPEN. To claim there is picture evidence is completely unfounded because the hotel cannot prove when and where that picture was taken! This "proof" could be from any room in the hotel, from any day. I absolutely expect a call from someone in corporate management, as well to see this "evidence". I will NOT have my name defamed by a lie created by people that obviously have no idea the difference between someone smoking in a room vs. the smell that is left...
