During a quick trip to town, an old friend (who lives near Wilmington) suggested Brandywine as THE local place for breakfast and I have to believe he was 100% correct.
Pulling into the parking lot, got an instant warm fuzzy because the outside of this place was like seeing the old diners of yesteryear like the 1950's place you see in the movie Grease.
Stepped through the front door into a quaint decor and a warm welcome from the host (maybe owner?). Waitress was at the table quickly with a big smile and eagerness to take care of us.
Being from the south, I had never heard of Scrapple before so after a quick explanation, I chose it over bacon as the side for my pancakes (with the waitresses promise that if I didn't like it she would bring me some bacon).
Pancake 3-stack came out perfectly golden brown and they were huge (I am a large guy and could only finish 1/2 of the stack). Took a bite of the scrapple, that looked to me like a slice of toasted banana nut bread, lol) and it was surprisingly very good...much different than anything I've ever had before but enjoyed it since I always want to try out local specialties wherever I travel.
And although we did not try any, and if you have a sweet tooth, trust me when I say your mouth will drool when you take a look at their desserts counter because what you see there all looks delicious. If I had not been headed to the airport immediately after eating, I can promise I would have gotten something to take back to the hotel room for later if I had been staying another night!!!
Great "nostalgia" diner that truly took me back in time to the days of my youth when places like this were everywhere. Brandywine delivered generous portions for both our meals...coffee is excellent...our server was exceptional...and the amount & quality of our food truly made our meals a great value.
I wholeheartedly recommend visting Brandywine Diner when you are...
Read moreI waited until my 3rd trip here to write a review but after today I might not order from here again. The first time I went was during the first weekend that they were open. The place was packed! The food was average diner food and the service was mediocre but it WAS super busy and just opened so I never held that against them. We noted they had an amazing looking desert cabinet and decided to try some next time. The second time I went I had the meatloaf, my friend had a tuna melt it was again average, but no complaints. We couldn’t wait to hit up the dessert cabinet though! We spend over $50 on JUST DESSERTS we got one of almost everyone of the pastries….disappointingly most of them were STALE! Smh
Which brings me to today. We were on our way home from target when I got a hankering for pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream! So I suggested we give the diner another try and get some takeout . She ordered a French toast napoleon which also comes with whipped cream. When we got home(which is a 30min trip) we immediately noticed they forgot the whipped cream. I order from bob evans regularly and they put the whipped cream in a separate container and it’s fine everytime. Since I asked for all the toppings on the side I assumed it would be there.
So I call to let them know about the mistake and to see if I could get a credit for the $5 I now have to spend on a can of whipped cream, nevermind the trip to the store. The woman who answered was quite rude. First insisting that the whipped cream had melted then like a total SMART A$$ she says “ well I’ll give you a free side of whipped cream when you come back” smdh
So I called back and got a different manager. His name was terry and I explained the situation to him and he had no problem giving me a credit for the whipped cream! A simple issue was escalated just because of bad attitude. Very disappointing. I had such high hopes...
Read moreThis was our second time eating at Brandywine Diner. The first time, we went for breakfast and the food was ok, not super but ok enough that we decided to try the diner for a second time. The diner was very busy the afternoon we visited. We were seated by what I assume was the manager. He grunted at us to follow him to our table where he basically tossed our menus on the table turned and left. We checked out the fairly extensive menu. I opted for a turkey and bacon club sandwich with an appetizer of zucchini strips and my partner ordered the Strawberries and Cream pancakes. Our waitress return a few minutes later to inform us that they were out of zucchini. Not great but it happens. When our meals arrived, the first thing we noted was the Strawberries were kinda heaped on top of the pancakes and the whipped cream was already starting to go flat. Also missing was the compote that normally should have been used to help sweeten the strawberries and help them stay on top of the pancakes. So, my club sandwich was sadly a complete disappointment. It's was completely tasteless. And sadly I am not talking about one or two components, but literally every single thing in my sandwich had no taste at all. And on top of that, the lettuce which I can safely report had been washed, still had enough water in-between the leaves to go swimming in which left a bit of water on my plate which made the fries soggy. Sadly, what was clear from this visit is that the kitchen staff and the owners have no passion for the food they are serving and they do not taste what's coming out of the...
