Sundance Clothing — Local services in Chatham

I recently visited this store with my family and some friends. We were surprised not to see a store employee at the door keeping track of the number of customers inside (every other store had them, because of the coronavirus regulations). While inside the store, an employee (we assume the manager) yelled across the store “If you are not going to buy anything, could you please leave so someone else can come in?” We were surprised and taken aback by being asked to leave. Knowing we were a group of children (from 12 to 20) and mothers, we knew it was directed at the young women in our group, so we left. I didn’t want to say anything, but on the way out my sister was asked why she was not going to purchase the sweater she was looking at. Knowing she was uncomfortable, I responded for her “I’m sorry, she was going to but we feel that we received bad service so she decided not to.” She then followed us outside of the store front to confront us, asking why we felt we had bad service. After telling her why, she seemingly became angry (she began raising the volume of her voice) and she explained that because she saw some young kids, she assumed they would not buy anything, and that is why she wanted them to leave. This confirmed our assumption that her plea to leave was directed towards the young women in our group. She began yelling and saying it was “sad that we are taking it that way and so rude that we do not want to support a local business.” She also grabbed the attention of another customer inside the store and said “they are being so rude!” I am not the type of person to seek out a store online and write a review, but I was so upset with the treatment we received while attempting to support a small business during a time that is very hard financially for many, that I felt...

It really troubles me to see the two negative reviews listed below. I was in the store at the time of these complaints against the store employees. The employees did NOT say to leave the store if you weren’t spending money!!! They asked all patrons for volunteers to step out temporarily because they had reached their limit for people in the store due to Covid safety regulations. They had had an employee at the door but then she had to tend to something in the store and more people walked in. Instead of helping to support this local business , this group of women and girls decided to berate them unnecessarily in front of other customers and then on line. This is a review I'm happy to write for one of my fave local shops. I always look forward to shopping here, they make me feel like a VIP every single time! Even though I live nearby, I sometimes order items online and am pleasantly surprised at how quickly they ship. I placed an order for a christmas sweater (the cute one with the tree and the truck!), realized I ordered the wrong color and received an almost immediate response when I reached out.
