This is definitely the place to be in Chatham! The Chatham Squire has a great location downtown that is paired with a true tavern atmosphere. My advice if you are going in mid-summer to the "first come first served" side: be patient! Get a drink at the bar and wait for folks to be done, we didn't have to wait as long as we thought. We started by putting our names in on the dining room side (there is the tavern side as well) and then walked around Chatham. Coming back, we noticed a few seats open at the bar and then, only a few mins later, a table opened. The bus boy got us right away and we sat a 6 top comfortably. We started with drinks - they have tons of local cocktails. Our server was absolutely amazing! My children were all in on getting to draw their server and then give it to them! Very cool engagement for the kids. See photos below, we started with local, fresh oysters. (They also had funky cups and straws for the kids, see oyster pic). Oysters were top notch, came out fast, and with all regular garnishes. Next, after another round of drinks, we got our main meals. I deviated from what I'd normally get and tried something a bit different: the fish tacos. Huge. Amazing. Fresh. For a tavern that does seat yourself, you really cant beat the food! This is why you come to Chatham - this tavern felt timeless. The staff was warm and welcoming - and when I forgot my to go boxes, they had them stashed behind the bar. It's the fare you're looking for plus the atmosphere of a local fishing community without sacrificing any quality. Get there early or late, there will be a crowd looking to party with you!

We came here to play pool, enjoy some drinks, food and to play Trivia. Our server Chris was quick to take our orders. We enjoyed some good chicken wings. They were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. We also got some clam chowder. It needed some seasoning. Then we ordered some food. We were assured that the mate plate would be plenty for two or three people. I don't think it was enough for one unless you wanted to count all the French fries on it. There were two scallops, two shrimp, a few clam bellies and some small pieces of fish as well as some calamari rings on the plate. For 50 bucks it should have been a lot better and filling. Then another server dropped a bowl of chowder behind me and sprayed it up on my coat as well as my clothes but they didn't seem to care too much about that. They didn't offer to wipe anything down and it took them a long time to get everything off the floor. And then there's the problem in the men's room. There are no paper towel dispensers and the electric dryer does not work. They could have at least put some paper towels or napkins in there for everyone. The place has a good vibe and draws a good crowd but they can certainly be doing things a lot better.

Absolutely Disgraceful Experience – Avoid at All Costs. I have never been treated with such disrespect and outright hostility at any establishment in my life. My brother’s wedding welcome party was held here, and we filled most of the venue that night — likely giving them the best business they’ve had all year. In return, we were met with appalling service, racism, and aggression. I was forcibly kicked out like a criminal simply for bringing a sealed, wrapped bottle of champagne as a gift for the bride/groom and a leftover pizza in a closed box — both completely harmless. The way the staff handled this was outrageous. I had ordered a vegan veggie burger, and they served me a beef burger — a serious issue for anyone with dietary restrictions. They refused to refund the mistake. When I calmly questioned this, the staff grew increasingly rude and confrontational. The situation escalated shockingly. I was escorted out by the manager — a very rude and miserable brunette woman — and two large male staff members who behaved like aggressive bouncers. Outside, the manager physically shoved me onto the sidewalk because I laughed at the absurdity of being thrown out for a gift and leftovers–also known as assault. I did not retaliate, but I shouted loudly so witnesses would hear: “She pushed me! She pushed me!” like a siren — because I feared no one would believe what had just happened otherwise. After I walked back to the hotel room, I heard that the police arrived due to the commotion. This was assault and should never happen at any place claiming to serve the public. The racism and classism in how we were treated was clear — despite being a group of sophisticated, respectful, international adults, they treated us like unruly college kids. The entire attitude of this bar — from management to staff to service — was not only unprofessional but deeply disturbing. Do not give this place your business. If you value being treated with basic human decency, stay far away from this disgraceful establishment. If I could give no...

never trust greg bennett. he is the worst manager in the history of this establishment. Here is a letter I addressed to the squire to voice our recent experience.

Good evening Chatham Squire I am writing to you to let you know that my family and I have been loyal patrons to your establishment for at least the past three decades. Tonight unfortunately was the first bad experience we have ever had due to one particular manager's handling of a issue with our party. My mother, a 61 year old woman, and a good family friend, only 10 years old were attempting to move a third table to connect them together to fit our entire party, as we have done for 30 years without issue. We apparently disturbed the guests sitting next to us and unknowingly caused a fire hazard. Your working manager for the night (who is the white male pictured in the lower right of your facebook picture) approached us immediately as enemies, not customers or patrons. As I previously stated my mother and the 10 year old were in the middle of moving the table when the manager (who name is Greg Bennett) came over and was immediately hostile and spoke to us in a demeaning and extremely unprofessional way. After we notified our waitress (who was exceptional) Greg Bennett made an abysmal effort at redeeming himself, and ended up being even more rude to my mother who never raised her voice and was at this point crying. Now I am not in any place to judge your establishments reputation, as it does precede you, however I feel compelled to let the management know how awful Mr. Bennett was at pleasing his customers which should be a number one priority....especially for a family that have been patrons of your restaurant since before I was born 21 years ago. I sincerely hope this issue can be resolved and the manager is disciplined appropriately. Best...

A restaurant called The Chatham Squire welcomes you with an excellent atmosphere upon entering, it's a feeling that you know you’ll enjoy your experience very much there. A warm and sitting at the dock watching out upon the lake feeling. The food is comforting and fulfilling, bringing so many bustling flavors of excellency into your awaiting mouth. The smell of the restaurant is a fresh bay breeze with the theme of being at sea. The location is along a decently busy street in the middle of the beautiful town of Chatham. The food is made with very nice care upon each person of the party seated to order and eat, with the excellent waiters who work there as well. The manager keeps their restaurant clean and considerate upon the look and appealment to all who are stopping by to fill their stomachs. Each customer is satisfied with their food. As for reference to my personal experience, I went with my whole family back in 2019 to the restaurant and I wanted to try lobster, which I’ve never had. After waiting for the outstandingly hard working chefs in the kitchen preparing my family's food, a short time later, a big lobster was served to me. It brought a huge smile to my face seeing this cooked lobster fresh from the tank! I ate with joy after my grandfather helped with cracking open the shell, legs, and main body with a lobster/ crab cracker. The satisfaction of being able to have and enjoy my lobster for the first time will always be a memory to be cherished. I’m sad to see such disappointment with the restaurant reviews when going online but it's all respected and personal experiences of many...
