Stayed with my family for 1 day. Overall a very nice hotel and had a great time. I'm taking two stars off because of checkout and the threat of additional fees (see pros and cons below) which make your checkout process quite stressful. Excluding the checkout, this would be 5 stars.
Rooms very comfortable, quiet, modern and clean Nice pool right in front of the room Very friendly staff WiFi worked seamlessly Free bikes and helmets for the whole family to explore nearby (definitely recommend!)
A bit on the expensive side for what you pay for Checkout is at 10am (which is quite early compared to national average) and you have the "threat" of extra charge if you checkout late. They let you check out at 12pm but again for a $50 fee, which I think it is unreasonable. You have to empty your room trash bins yourself when checking out and start the dishwasher, if not (guess what?) more fees. Room is quite expensive already so cleaning should be included and not charged extra. And we are not of those people who trash the room, but always respect the property. Pool opens at 10am so basically the kids cannot enjoy it on the checkout date, since you will have to check out by 10am. Asked for an extra coffee pod (we were 3 adults and 2 kids) and we were asked to pay extra for the coffee pod (again, first time I see this in a hotel - extra coffee pod should be free especially when you have a 2bd room with extra people).
Basically nice hotel but bit expensive and with lots of fees around even for basic things (which in my view should not be there - it looks like you are flying a low-cost airline where you pay everything extra). Free bikes somewhat...
Read moreWe’ll be back… We came to relax and go Kayaking with the wild horses on Assateague.
The resort offers free bicycles for touring the island and a private slip for your kayak or boat.
It’s gorgeous and the whole vibe between seashell walkways and pastel colors, these little cottages are just beautiful.
There’s a local vendor that will deliver daily or weekly rental kayaks to the property for you (unless you can tow/haul them yourself).
They front desk folks were so nice and always accommodating.
The pool opens at 10am, same time as the checkout, so we opted for the $45 12pm late checkout to get a little more float time.
Our unit had 2 bedrooms with their own full bath and a deck facing the pool area. The mini kitchen has a small electric stovetop, no oven, but a full size fridge and microwave and a small Keurig machine.
The rooms were cozy, don’t expect nightstands on both sides of the bed, but they were clean, comfy, nice and new.
THIS IS A SMOKE FREE RESORT. Which is honestly awesome, because I didn’t have to get any whiffs of something while floating in the pool.
Chincoteague is a small island that you can have have access to almost everything you need (food, activities, parks, desserts, etc) within a 2-5 minute drive.
You can walk to the a few coffee shops and some restaurants, but the main strip is still about a 15min walk or so.
Kayaking from the resort would not get you anywhere near the wild horse, you would have to paddle around the island, so we actually drove to another kayak tour company that was closer...
Read moreMy new favorite place! I’ve been coming to Chincoteague for almost 60 years now - as a child myself, as an adult, brought my children and most recently my grandchildren. I’ve stayed in various motels, hotels, rental homes and this past weekend we stayed at the Key West Cottages. I had seen how cute they were the last time I was here and really wanted to check them out. They were phenomenal! We absolutely loved them. We had one that overlooked the pool and one that overlooked the bay. They were clean, fully stocked with everything you need - dishes, glasses, pots, pans, etc. the pool was amazing. Kids loved the pool slide and as an adult I thought it was safer that the whole slide was actually in the water. I also loved the sitting shelf in the pool too. The little private beach and fishing pier were great too. And wagons to haul your stuff to your room was a plus. And to have bicycles you could use was awesome too. The lady in the office was very friendly and accommodating. We had a 4:00 checkin and did all kinds of fun things on the island during the day but the 6 kids were starting to get hot and cranky. When I asked if there was any way we could get in early or maybe at least use the pool until our rooms were ready, she gave us the keys at 1:30 - that was so incredibly appreciated. Everything was just perfect and we can’t wait to go back. I will never stay anywhere else from this point forward. Key West Cottages was just perfect and is now my go-to place anytime I’m in Chincoteague! Can’t wait to go back! 5...
