We heard good things about this place, but we were disappointed.
We would have appreciated signage to direct us to the back for parking. We figured it out, but then we were trying to get in the wrong door and would have appreciated signage to direct us to the correct door. Maybe we missed it, but it certainly wasn't obvious to us, so it was a rocky start.
Upon entering the hostess was somewhat underwhelming. I don't expect much, but I certainly felt a chill when we walked in. Lol. If you look at my other reviews, I'm usually very lenient, but these few things were just not a good customer experience.
The atmosphere was rather dark and drab in the inner dining room area. I kinda wanted to just leave at this point, but My husband and I were famished. I did like that there was a nice amount of space between the tables though!
Our server was lovely, but not exceptional, hence the four stars for service. No offense to her but I reserve five stars for service for truly outstanding service. I got that feeling she was inexperienced, but she was pleasant and trying hard and I appreciate that.
That said, our waitress was the highlight of the visit. Well, also the salad! The side salad with my meal was really, really good! It had a nice dark lettuce, little tomatoes, onion slices, croutons and blue cheese dressing with some great chunks of blue cheese, which were very tasty.
Unfortunately, the other food that was to come was the worst part for me. The steamed oysters appetizer were rather dried out and shrunken. The rockfish dinner was overcooked and dry. It was plentiful and had great promise, but just was not cooked right. I had the crab cake stuffed shrimp and I was not aware it was going to be wrapped in bacon. I may have missed that on the menu, so I definitely wasn't expecting the bacon part. I believe it was deep fried. I thought I was ordering something relatively healthy and so it was a bummer. My husband had green beans, which were definitely canned and to my palette, just yuck. He did like them though! He also had a baked sweet potato muffin type side dish. It was pretty much a dessert, but tasty...
All in all, a disappointing time, which when you spend nearly $100 for two people, it makes it burn...
Read moreDelicious food and great atmosphere. Definitely more of a high-end place and not for families though as it's more quiet and has limited options aside from seafood. It is pricy but worth it. Note:online menu is VERY different from what the restaurant is actually serving. Also, some of the waitstaff do not know what the specials are/that they even have any. When we were seated the first night our waitress told us the specials but then we later heard the table behind us ask their waitress what the specials were and she said that they don't have specials (and we know they were still serving the specials so it's not that they ran out). Would have given 5 stars if it weren't for their lack of communication about takeout/carry-out and the menu. My boyfriend read online that you could order takeout (and when we had been in the other night there was a sign on the entrance to the bar that said pick-up and order takeout here, plus there were specific parking spaces for people only picking up food) but when we called we were told they did not do takeout. So we decided to just go to the restaurant and get food there. Well when we got there they still had the sign up for pickup and orders so I asked a guy who I assumed to be the manager if they were doing takeout and he said yes. Then we went into the bar and asked and at first the lady said no but then quickly changed and said yes she could take orders so we went to order and we were told that what we wanted (from the online menu) was not available and were handed a memu to look over. Once we decided what we wanted another lady came over and asked us how she could help us. When we told her we were doing takeout she said "we don't do takeout." So we had to wait for the other lady to come back to do our order. Then my boyfriend had to sit in the restaurant and wait around 45-50 minutes to get the food because we couldn't order...
Read moreIts about a 50 minute drive from our vacation cabin near Crisfield, MD. We decided to go here over Assateague Crab House this trip (which is great) to try something new. It was early afternoon on a Sunday so only one or two other tables eating but the bar was full. We were a bit skeptical. Nobody at the front to seat us so my GF went into the bar and asked Bourbon Betty (real name) at the bar if we just take a seat. But by then someone had came from the back and over to seat us. I had not been here in at least 17 years. The place seemed a little run down but what the heck. We are here. The waitress turned out to be very good. She knew here menu very well and made some great recommendations. We had a person in our group with a Celiac decease (me) and another person (GF) with a seafood allergy. She was able to make recommendations for both. When the food came the steam pots huge but the biggest surprise was the steak for the person with the seafood allergy. A hand cut Delmonico steak that honestly was the best I have had in years. I only got a couple bites, as it was not my order, but I certainly would order it if I was there again. My parents got the trio which came with fried shrimp, oysters, and scallops. It was in-house light breaded, not frozen. They enjoyed it, but didn't care for the fried scallops. A scallop should be pan seared or grilled anyway in my opinion. But hey, that's what you ordered. The steam pots came with a ton of food and they were fantastic. The sweet tea was on point and I cannot say enough about he waitress. She even wrote down some info on local festivals, seafood shops, and other for us. Very pleasantly surprised and will go back next time there. Looking forward to it. I already know I am getting a steak, crab legs, and steamed shrimp! See you...
