The experience of staying for three nights at the Channel Bass Inn was exactly what we needed for the week. There were no TVs or distractions in the rooms, and it gave the unique experience of feeling like you’re staying in a local historic landmark but also having the familiar comfortability of staying with your grandmother (this is not a comment on Barbara and David - they are much more like a loving, feisty aunt & uncle than grandparents). The furniture and decor was pretty antique and reminded me a lot of my great aunt and uncle’s house that we used to visit when I was younger.
We were spoiled every morning with breakfast. Barbara, David, and their staff cooked us up something unique and delicious each morning and that was arguably the best part of the entire stay. And breakfast wasn’t only a quick eat and run - each meal was followed by some delightful conversation with our hosts which normally went on for another hour or so after we were finished eating. They’re the type of people who are so interesting and engaging that even small talk over breakfast quickly turns into a deep and thoughtful conversation (especially after Barbara casually mentions how many countries she’s lived in and how many languages she speaks).
If you have time, joining for tea is a must. They had joked that morning that if we were joining for tea (which started at 3:30pm) that we shouldn’t eat anything between breakfast and then - and they weren’t kidding. Tea is a four course ordeal - and I mean ordeal in the best possible way; it's an ordeal trying to will yourself through eating course after course of delicious treats. We had finger sandwiches, scones (which I have to agree with the previous review on - probably the best scones of my life), strawberry cake & german apfelkuchen, and cookies. We had to give up after the first three courses and took our cookies with us to enjoy as a treat later.
Thursday morning we were sad to say goodbye to Barbara and David. The stay there was exactly what we had needed - rather than feeling exhausted at the end of a vacation as people often do, we left feeling relaxed and refreshed and excited to head off on an adventure to Ukraine. Staying at the Channel Bass Inn was like spending a few days relaxing and enjoying time with extended family (the kind you like) and I would do it again...
Read moreThis is my second time at Channel Bass Inn once in 2021 and now on August 8-11, 2024. We really enjoy this quaint historic Bed and Breakfast. The home was originally build back in the 1800's and they kept the antique style of the 1800's. The Queen Suite with pull out sofa or The Weathersby Room, was very comfortable. The bed was so comfortable, and I slept very well. The room was really sapcious, the bedroom was separated from the mini livingroom. The air conditioner was cold, and it was very clean and had bamboo floors, which make is easy to clean if you stay there for awhile. We stayed for three nights, I wish I would have just stayed there for one more night.
Xavier was the best host, he was very attentive and made sure the breakfast was hot and fresh, and even offered to put my son's food in a to-go box for him when he wanted to sleep in, Xavier also paid close attention to my sons allergies and dietary needs, as he is lactose intolerant. Xavier always made sure there was something that suited my sons dietary needs for him.
They have afternoon teas, and you can even make reservations in the evening for supper that we did not partake in this time, but hopefully will next time.
They have complimentary red and white wine, water, coffee and tea. The people who work there are extremely welcoming and nice.
They have complimentary bikes to ride, beach chairs and umbrellas that you can use at the beach.
Overall the stay was very comfortable, the rooms were, clean, spacious and had a unique antiques or artsy feel to it.
The only issue we had was the bathroom door in the Weathersby room would not close. There were also a lot of stray cats and stray seagulls outside that liked to just hangout around the inn. Nothing they can help, but maybe the town of Chincoteague should do something about that.
The location was really nice and walking to everything on Main Street. I highly recommend staying at the Channel Bass Inn for a wonderful culinary and unique experience in Chincoteague, and we will definitely be back for a...
Read moreWe received a phone call at 12 pm requesting to know when our arrival time was so our room would be ready - we replied that we would be arriving at 2 pm. When we arrived a little past 2, our room was not ready. The woman who "greeted" us at the door seemed like she was very overwhelmed and turned around. She asked what room we were in and when given the name she laughed/snickered and said oh boy. When one of my travel companions asked why she laughed like that, she then said the room wasn't ready, but she just needed 25 minutes. We agreed to 25 minutes and hung out in the living room. 2 hours later, the room was still not ready for us, and we had 0 communication from anyone at the inn. Finally, we found the owner at the desk on the computer and inquired about our room - he said that she (Dottie) had -just- texted him that the room was ready, great! We take our bags up and surprise, the room is not ready, and Dottie is still in a half-uncleaned room (her shoes were off, empty cans and dirty dishes on the night stand). She "just needed 5 more minutes" to wipe a table while the owner awkwardly gathered the dirty things on the nightstand and her shoes while we waited in the hallway. The room itself was nice enough, this is an older building, so it has a slight mildew smell to it upstairs. We were very excited for the food as the reviews are phenomenal but found it to be okay. Certainly not bad but not what we were expecting. The "restaurant" is just the B&B's dining room which also took us by surprise. Interesting place. Overall, our stay was decent, but for the price we...
