I tried Amarin Coffee for the first time last summer (2023) while on a family vacation. It was packed to the brim, but waited patiently and had an EXCELLENT chocolate croissant and coffee. I knew I wanted to come back.
Fast forward one year later (June 2024) I am down in Chincoteague again for a family trip and I absolutely could not wait to get to Amarin for some pastries and coffee. Once again, packed to the brim, but waited patiently as line moved steadily. I noticed they were out of the chocolate croissants (no biggie), so I wanted to try something new that was already made. Unfortunately there were many varieties of pastries in the case that were completely unlabeled with no name or description. As I approached the cashier taking my order, I kindly asked her what types of pastries they had in stock in the case, since nothing was labeled. She was incredibly rude and replied in a rude tone of voice with…”Whatever you see in the case.” I was hot, irritated, and a little impatient from standing in line for 10 minutes already so I just couldn’t believe that was her response. I asked her what type of muffins were in the top right corner, and she couldn’t even answer my question. At that point I said “never mind” to any pastries, paid for my iced coffee, waited for it, and left.
I had 4 family members who vacation regularly in Chincoteague who accompanied me that day and witnessed this encounter. They were all pretty disappointed in the customer service of the place for the first time. We all agreed we will not be coming back, as I felt I was treated very poorly as a paying customer. We ended up down the street at a different breakfast place to treat ourselves to donuts and the staff were quick and COURTEOUS. We told them about the experience we just had at Amarin and they told us they weren’t surprised. My husband blessed them with a very generous tip to share amongst the staff.
Today was my second and last time at Amarin coffee. Kindness really goes a long...
Read moreOMGOSH! Talk about an AMAZING breakfast sandwich! We ordered the ham, Swiss, and egg sandwich with Dijon mustard, fresh spinach, and sliced tomato. We were not disappointed. This generously sized sandwich is served on a toasted croissant (about 6”x 4”x 3”) and assembled with pride and a caring hand. You won’t find big-chain-slapped and wrapped food at Amarin’s. An unexpected yet fun treat was inside the box…an apple slice and baby carrot. I laughed when I saw it, and explained to my husband that the combination was a tribute to the horses.
While waiting for our breakfast, we had a nice chat with who we believe was the owner, and his wife. Turns out we were on Guam just a few years apart. After getting our sandwiches, we went inside the house for bakery items (as they were sold out of most everything the day prior). A huge, chocolate croissant was in order along with a blueberry cheese danish and an apple danish. We’re saving those for later, but seeing the following Amarin’s has, I’m expecting my mouth to water and tastebuds dance with delight.
Make sure you stop by and visit while on the island, but get there early for the best selection of...
Read moreAmazing. Amazing. Blueberry Danish: out of this world. Not a pie filling, actual blueberries. Big tasty ones. On an amazing buttery flaky pastry. Cannot say enough good things.
The feeling of sadness when I saw the baked goods were running low, the customer in front of me ordering the last one, only to be followed by a wonderfully dramatic crescendo of happiness as a new tray of perfect big flaky buttery pastries to come out and refill the case. Heaven.
Macchiato was great. Iced Americano also. Service was friendly and efficient. There was a line but it moved quickly and smoothly even on a busy Sunday morning in August.
And then the Banh mi food truck out back... Out of this world.
Same amazing buttery flaky from the Danish but this time in a big pillowy croissant with a killer sausage Swiss and egg sandwich on it. Flavors were perfect. Swiss was melty and just a tiny bit caramelized. Sausage was so mouth wateringly good.
Great little patio tables to wait for the food. The wait was only a few minutes with four customers...
