Great place to get coffee and donuts! We tried Sandy Pony and now Mr. Whippy. The verdict: Mr. Whippy wins!
Pros: A lot of choices! They also have a special of the day donut, which we tried. The raspberry and strawberry topped donut.
A Full Size donut! You actually get a full size normal donut. I was surprised that Sandy Pony donuts we mini donuts! My first question at Mr. Whippy…. are the donuts full size? Reply…. Yes!
Not cake thick donuts! These were light and fluffy. I would say in between Krispy Kreme and Duncan! I prefer Krispy Kreme and I think Duncan is a little to bread like. Mr. Whippy was right in the middle. If I can’t get fresh Krispy Kreme than Mr. Whippy meets the donut hunger very nicely!
Cons: My only critique is the frosting could be a little more refined. While still very good, a glaze like frosting would have made this decadent!
Overall: If your looking for a great satisfying morning donut or even dessert, Mr. Whippy in my opinion is the place to go on. Chincoteague island.
It is cash only, but they do have an ATM inside, which is great and convenient.
Sandy Pony Donuts, small, a little overpriced, slightly greasy, and well…. something I could make at home at a fraction of the price. I was really looking forward to the bacon donut but was very disappointed. More bacon crumble than bacon. In my opinion, if I had to choose as a Chincoteague spot to enjoy donuts, it would be Mr. Whippy!
I haven't tried the Ice Cream, that will be next visit...
Read moreOK I have a bit of a rant on this place so get ready...
After my wife and I ordered, we waited a few minutes and had our treats in hand BEFORE we were told our cost. After being told our total, I handed over my credit card and got a surprised look from the cashier. She then proceeded to tell me they are a CASH ONLY establishment (yep, in 2017 we still have one of these!). So BEWARE before coming with only plastic! Now, she did say that there was a sign on the door, which there was, but neither of us noticed it to be honest because there was other stuff to look at on the door, and also the left side of the double door was locked, so we tried that, failed to open, then tried the other side, which let us in. Now, as we are standing there, ice cream melting in hand, I ask my wife if she has cash, and of course she left her purse back at the hotel. So I told the young woman if she wouldn't mind letting me leave to go get the cash, while my wife stayed there so she knows we aren't going to rip em off. The girl frantically went back to ask her manager and got the approval. After leaving, getting the cash, driving back and paying properly, we finally were able to enjoy our evening, even though they were closing soon...I personally think they should have let us eat our ice cream and THEN leave to get the cash, but that didn't happen.
With all that said, my waffle cone WAS good and my wife...
Read moreWe visited around lunch time to grab coffee and donuts. When we began walking in, we heard the drive through speaker loudly as the worker greeted a drive thru guest with "ARE YOU READY TO ORDER!?" Inside, it is not initially clear where to go or what to do. Mister whippy and lil whippy have 2 separate counters but per the menu board it looks like coffee can be ordered at either whereas one counter is for donuts and the other is for ice cream/Gelato. This place is CASH ONLY. That is totally fine and it is posted, but with all the other busy decorations and it being stated on a sticker in a non-print font, we were in line before realizeing and had to go back outside to grab cash. There is an atm by the bathrooms as well. We ordered an iced sprinkled donut, cinnamon sugar donut, cinnamon roll, cold brew, and iced latte. Coffee was fine. The donuts were okay. The sprinkled kind of reminded me of a front loop. The cinnamon roll was drowned in icing- didn't realized it would even be an iced cinnamon roll. Had to scrape it off to be able to eat it. Service wasn't what i expect from a local establishment- especially during a period that isnt busy. Not an awful experience but I probably won't be back- plenty of competition that did provide a mich...
