We recently stayed for 4nights/ 5 days while visiting our daughter for her birthday. We reserved a king room and was informed once we were there in order to get our Military/government rate we could only get a standard room with 2 full beds. First time we have ever been told that and needless to say, when you’re both tall people, full size beds just don’t cut it, unless you like having your feet hang off a bed. We also were informed that we could not have breakfast unless we paid a regular room rate. We chose this property because we always choose Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn Express because of their friendly staff, comfortable big beds and pillows, cleanliness of rooms and property and continental breakfast. We did not receive any room service our entire stay (beds unmade, reused dirty towels and wash cloths and garbage not emptied). After the second day of not receiving room service, I asked at the gentleman at the front desk for clean towels and wash cloths and asked if the housekeeper, who was in the room next to ours cleaning at the time, could at least get the trash and change out the towels and wash cloths. We returned a while later and six towels were thrown on the first bed (no hand towels and no wash cloths, and she took the dirty ones so we were left with no wash cloths to shower with) and the trash was still in the room. So I made our bed, and bagged the trash up and set it by the door in the hallway. On the fourth day I returned to the front desk yet again and asked about the towels, trash and beds, this time I was informed that they only clean the room and change the linens if you stay four nights…she offered to have our room cleaned the next morning, which I found humorous because we were checking out the next morning to catch a plane at 5am. Communication upon arrival would have been helpful instead of waiting until you’re at the end of your patience to find out something that should have been communicated from the beginning. Morning coffee??? Well…The coffee in the lobby was cold and nasty the two times we attempted and obviously since we never had our room service, the coffee pods in our room and coffee cups were never restocked so we could not have coffee after the first morning, so we walked across the street to Speedway every morning to get coffee. The bathroom had huge cobwebs hanging in the corner and covering the register vents, there was long dark hairs laying in the sink and on the bathroom counter when we first arrived in our room and it had a stale mildew smell that really irritated my allergies every time we entered the room. Needless to say when we decide to come back to visit our daughter, we definitely will not be staying here and will explore a different option because the stay was far less than comfortable or enjoyable. So far only one night of rewards has been credited to my rewards so we will see if the other...
Read moreI stayed in a recently renovated room at this Holiday Inn, and while I appreciate the effort to modernize and update a hotel that's almost as old as I am - I'm a native of the area and remember it opening - there are some parts of the renovation that were just not practical. First though, let me say I am a huge fan of all the additional and easily accessible charging ports and electrical outlets; that was a huge plus for two adults with too many gadgets plus medical equipment, we were able to have everything plugged in at the same time if needed! Also the staff at this hotel is very personable and professional, and I just adore one of the servers in the Falls restaurant, she has been working there for many years and remembers me each time I visit. Now for the parts of the renovation that just aren't practical, this isn't meant to scare anyone away, just a heads-up that some of the changes can be annoying. The biggest annoyance is that the smoke detector is immediately over the bathroom and since there isn't a real door on the bathroom - just a panel that slides to cover the bathroom entrance or the closet - steam from the shower will set off the smoke detector every single time a person takes a shower. There was a reduction in storage/dresser space which made it challenging for two adults to store all their clothing and essentials for a week long stay. The modern furniture is not comfortable for any length of time and there isn't enough work space for two adults to work at the same time. The toilet paper is on open-ended spindles so there is a good chance that the paper will slide off the spindle and roll across the bathroom floor at the most inopportune time. There were also flaws in the new mirror in the bathroom and chips out of the new woodwork that surprised me that the room was signed off as finished.
Overall, we had a good stay, the facilities are clean, the hotel is safe and yes, we would stay again; it was just a number of minor annoyances that kept this from being anything beyond an...
Read moreWe recently stayed here to visit family during the Thanksgiving holiday, and enjoyed it so much that our three night stay felt like a relaxing, long holiday.
With family in the area, this was our sixth stay here in as many years, so we were already familiar with the room (and have been graciously granted the privelege of getting the same room each time, as requested).
The breakfast vouchers are absolutely worth it - the portions are big and filling. The hotel is truly only minutes away from many of the local attractions, and about an hour or less from Syracuse.
I have had long stays at this hotel for business reasons, and thanks to the spacious areas and quiet space, I truly consider this a cozy home away from home. The room is sufficiently spacious enough so that I have never felt cramped or anxious to leave while stuck at the desk doing work or on conference calls. And the beds and pillows offer a good night's sleep, too.
A big plus for us is the huge, heated pool, which, when not overly inhabited by children or groups, has felt like our own private swimming spot! One of our favorite places to splash and relax. The rooms facing it might occasionally get some of the noise, but most people respect the quiet hours, and I've found the room to be fairly quiet at all times.
The hotel is clean, though perhaps not yet too modernized, but we have always been able to keep the room cool enough in the summer and warm enough in the harsh cold of Auburn's winter.
The staff has also always been alert and friendly. It's been days, yet I can still remember that it was Mindy pouring our coffee with a smile, and that Steve has always helped ensure we get our favorite spot.
If you are traveling through and need a place to unwind, as well, this is the spot to book! And get the breakfast package....
