I wish I had read more reviews of this place and the host other than those on Airbnb. The reviews on Yelp are more accurate with my experience.
I stayed at Jungle House in Chillicothe. It was $170ish a night and pets were allowed. So I selected 4 people, 3 pets and the price went up to $250ish a night. Not great, but I continued anyway and paid for it and got my receipt for 4 people. 3 pets for 3 nights. Later I got an email from Airbnb saying there was a resolution filed and I owed Sergio another $200ish dollars for pet fees. The host says Airbnb only charges for one pet for one night. Without having a pricing matrix of how much extra each person and each pet cost (there was no mention of extra people fees), how am I supposed to figure out if what I paid was right? I got a receipt that said 4 people, 3 pets for 3 nights. I assumed they do their math right.
I should have known then to just cancel it and stay home for my birthday. After we stayed, contrary to my normal trusting self I thought I should take some pictures of the place before I leave as I was afraid this guy might try to gouge me for more money. Low and behold 15 days after I stayed, conspicuously 1 day after the review period was over, I got a resolution saying that while I was there I was smoking inside and I owed $300 more for extra cleaning fees. Never happened, but how do I prove that it didn't happen? He had "smart smoke alarms" that he said was proof that it happened. It was a duplex and out front the lower tenants, 3 of them, were smoking. Maybe that triggered it? Who knows.
After disputing with AirBnB they sided with him. What's one customer to lose who uses their service a couple of times a year? Versus a host who makes them money weekly. So no surprise there. In fact I think this gives some hosts like Sergio a license to gouge people for things that can't be proven. So be very, very careful staying in this place or any owned by this host as there are several. I would never do it again and in fact won't stay...
Read moreThe Jungle Houses are beautiful, but let me start out by saying that you should not come here for the plants or the scenery you should come here for the hospitality. Every single thing about these houses are so carefully planned and thought out. There are little luxuries included in every nook and cranny. From customary deodorant and razors in the bathroom, to codes for 10% off at doordash and complimentary wine and snacks in the kitchen, to a smart tablet in the foyer to use for restaurant information and even getting yourself a late check out this is a travelers dream. It is almost insane to me that the beauty that surrounds every inch of this house is not the key point of focus but somehow it's not. You are immediately immersed in an oasis when you walk in, all the plants are real and you really get a taste for what it's like to be outside on the inside! And comfort is key here as well. With memory foam beds, face masks, robes, duel shower heads, soft blankets, and velvet on every surface of this home get prepared to indulge yourself. Jungle House is immaculate and if you're looking for the perfect place to really feel like you're on a tropical vacation but have the comfort of home I could not...
Read moreJungle Fever is the perfect home away from home. The duplex is exactly as described. It’s beautifully decorated, extremely clean, has lots of natural lighting, spacious, comfortable furniture, tastefully updated while still charming, and the list goes on…It’s also close to restaurants, shopping, and the interstate. The host is absolutely amazing! Sergio provides snacks and drinks, which is so helpful after traveling. The house manual and guide to area favorites I received before my arrival were great to have!! Prior to my arrival, Sergio even adjusted the heating system temperature to my choosing. That was so thoughtful and such a nice touch. Sergio checked in along the way, making sure I didn’t need anything. I was in town on business and initially planned on spending my time between Columbus and Portsmouth. Ultimately my plans changed and all of my work time was spent in Portsmouth…a little over 1.5 hours away from the duplex. I didn’t mind the drive, given how much I enjoyed my stay. I will definitely book in the future…fantabulous host...
