I hate leaving this review, because I’ve dined here over 10 times on my own reservation and on someone else’s many more times. This was one of my favorite restaurants that I recommended to all of my friends and I will never come back. As soon as we sat down and received our drinks, we were asked to get up and move as there was a bigger party coming in and they needed our table. Not a big deal at all, we had only 5 people and the new table had plenty of space. A group of men sat at our old table within 5 minutes. Had a good dining experience, the servers were great, food and drinks, etc. When we paid our bills, we sat for probably 15 minutes enjoying each other’s company and conversing. Who I think the was manager (Christine?) came over and asked us to leave as they “had a reservation for the table we were at”. We didn’t make a big deal about it, as it hadn’t even been 2 hours yet and we had the table reserved for 2 hours as a party of 5+. Not even 5 minutes later, she came back again and asked us to leave. I politely asked if the table next to us (who was also sitting with their checks) or the table we literally got up and moved for that arrived at the same time, was going to be asked to leave, she gave me some roundabout answer and basically told us no, they had a res for this table. We’re all completely confused because we were not rowdy at all, had a great time and the service was great up to that point. Did we not spend enough money there? Mind you, it was only 8:20 pm when we’re asked to leave. We will not be back.
Edited after managers response: As stated above, we were there less than 2 hours and asked to leave before the two hours was up. We were also the ONLY table asked to leave for the other reservations. It may have been national margarita day but there weren’t any margarita specials? Free chips and salsa with a pitcher? Come on. I’m good on the gift card, maybe give it to one of my other guests after their...
Read moreWhat a wonderful little surprised we walked into on our visit downtown this past weekend. It was a Saturday night so we walked in knowing there'd be a wait, we got quotes 40 minutes but they were able to seat us within about 10. Our server was very quick and attentive for as busy as she was. The menu is small but the flavors offered are huge! We ordered a queso for the table and it came out hot and with even more cheese on top than I'd imagined. The chips were typical restaurant tortilla chips, delicious and salty. The queso does have a kick to it, I'd say medium spice level. We ordered tacos and taquitos for the main course and I had to try the esquites ,or elote in a bowl basically, Everything came out timely considering their busy level. Our server kept our drinks filled very well in the mean time. When the food finally came I was shocked both good and bad. The tacos all come out together on a big serving dish though they do put them in the order they were made so figuring which is which out wasn't too difficult. But oh are they small tacos. They use the street tacos tortilla that's about 3 or4 inches in diameter. They did not skimp on the inside though and despite it being $4.5 a taco, you can taste the quality in the ingredients. I ordered 3 to starts, the shrimp , Al pastor and braised beef tacos. They tasted so good and were small enough I ordered 2 more. Everything was delicious and we left feeling satisfied but not gross full from crap ingredients. Will definitely be coming back to try the other tacos. Oh and do yourself the favor, get the esquites and queso and then make yourself a grande nacho with it. Thank me...
Read moreThe food and drinks are great! But if what you come for specifically are the tacos, DO NOT come in the evening. The first time I came to Bakersfield was on a Sunday lunch, and I fell in love! The tacos were huge and the spicy pineapple margaritas hit the spot just right! Fast forward to a month later, I come in on a Thursday night with a group of friends to whom I’ve raved about non stop about to place (one of which who is a lunch time regular) and order the exact same thing as always .. and the tacos were barely half the size of the ones I had last time I came in. To say we were flabberghasted was an understatement. We figured, okay maybe they had a fluke with the tortillera (which is the tortilla maker because they’re supposed to be hand made). I come in a few weeks later during lunch time, and surprise surprise the giant tacos have made a comeback. I think to myself, okay so maybe it was definitely a one time thing... until I come in yet again on a Saturday night not even a month later and again the tacos are back to their minuscule size. Disappointing to say the least. Drinks are great, and the staff was amazing on all four occasions, but for 4$ a taco I expect consistency. It’s embarassing to rave about a place you love so much only to bring someone else and be completely embarrassed when you realize the tacos are smaller than the 1.25 ones you would typically get at a taco truck.... And yes I have mentioned it to the wait staff and they all claimed to not know what I was talking about. The morning waitstaff insists the tacos are always that big and the evening staff insists they’ve always...
