We chose this motel for a four-day holiday stay based on the 4.5-star reviews. The location is good, and our room on the back side was quiet. You can hear the train when it goes by, but there is no traffic noise. Parking is easy, particularly in the rear, the lobby is spacious and attractive, but I began to question the reviews immediately upon checking in. The front desk staff were pleasant but not really able to understand questions or help with anything but giving me my key. There was usually no one at the front desk, but they could be summoned. Our room was well appointed, with two queen beds and a separate couch/sitting area. The hallway and our room (on the 3rd floor) were a bit dingy, and our carpet was stained. It did not invite walking on it in bare feet. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was good. Unfortunately, the walls appear to be relatively thin, as we could hear people talking and televisions on either side of us. There were no drawers in the room and only one cubby hole below the microwave. We did appreciate having both a microwave and a mini-frig. The accoutrements in the bathroom were sparse. Two small soaps were provided, along with a small shampoo and lotion. The toilet paper was very thin and was some of the worst I have seen in motels. There was no maid service, and a note told us that we could request it every two days (we decided not to). It’s remarkable that motels across the country have all but eliminated maid service but they have not adjusted their prices accordingly. The breakfast service was a low point for us. The breakfast area is large and open, but it was consistently unkempt, with food and syrup on most tables and the floor every day, even though it was not that busy. The breakfast offerings were the typical high-carb, high-sugar offerings, but they did offer fresh oranges. Sadly, we did not have brewed coffee for our entire stay (four nights). They offered coffee bags in hot water, which produced a brown liquid that did not resemble coffee. The pool area was one of the best we’ve seen in the area, and it was clean and seemed to be well maintained. The hot tub also looked quite clean. As we have family in Coralville, we have stayed in many of the local hotels. This property did not satisfy in many important areas, and we will not...
Read moreThe elevator was broken after I arrived and checked in to a 3rd floor room. I have asthma and going up and down stairs in hot, humid weather is very difficult for me. I checked in for 2 nights and when I had carried my work stuff up to my room on the 2nd day, I was locked out of my room because the attendant only programmed the key for 1 day. I couldn't go down 2 flights to have to come back up 2 flights to ask for assistance and tried calling the front desk, pushed option #2 on the prompt and gave up after 5 minutes of waiting for someone to answer. Called again and same thing, gave up after 2 minutes of waiting with no answer, then called the national number and selected "I wanted to revise my reservation". That person couldn't help me but said she would try to call the hotel. I tried calling the number again with option #2 and finally got an answer. The attendant was very kind, responded in a couple minutes with new room keys as she explained why I was locked out. I needed to check out the next morning and had to plan what to carry with each load to the car, again a challenge for someone with asthma. When I checked out at the desk, the attendant said they had a staff member there specifically to assist guests with luggage, and he had just arrived, it was approximately 7:45 am. This would have been nice to know, I certainly could have been helped by that, there was no communication of that information until the attendant telling me that as I checked out. I understand the staff had no control of the elevator breaking down, but given the known fact that guests travel with luggage and rely on the elevator, the hotel could and should have done more to assist the paying guests and communicate pertinent...
Read moreUpon arriving, we were quickly able to locate a parking spot despite the fact that they were booked. Check in was quick and easy. The desk clerk was polite and thoroughly explained our stay and the hotel. There is a cozy sitting area in the lobby with a faux fireplace. In the evening however, there was a large group of adults in the breakfast area sitting around and drinking beer. We had a double queen room on the third floor. There was a slow elevator, but we like taking the stairs. They did put us in a handicap room, not sure if that was all the was left, but kind of felt bad. Our room was clean, stocked and had a nice view overlooking a field at sunset. We came as a family so I promptly took the kids to the pool area. They operate the water slide from I believe 3-5 and 6-9. The pool itself was super full with very many kids, understandably. The water was tepid in the pool and almost uncomfortably hot in the spa tub. The pool was decent sized and the spa comfortably sat 11. There was not a life guard on duty but an employee did supervise the slide at times. BE CAREFUL WHEN WALKING! The floor around the pool was cement but must have had some mildew build up or something as it was super slick in areas. I watched many people who were walking almost fall, including myself. I would suggest warning signs. At bedtime our beds were comfy, linens clean, plenty of pillows. For the bathroom bring your own ammenties as theirs are not necessarily a high quality item. Breakfast had a very nice spread and was not overly busy. We ate both hot and cold food and left feeling satisfied. We would definitely...
