I have been in search of a good sushi restaurant since moving here to SE Iowa. Though it has been an arduous search, I believe the hunt is now over as I have found Red Ginger. The establishment is small, clean, well-decorated, and relatively dark. Though some may think "dark" is a mark against it, I fervently disagree. The darker atmosphere creates a more comfortable place where you can focus more on the company you keep than where you keep it. For me, this is a point gained. Though the size is relatively small, the center aisle is comfortably wide enough so as to not make you feel cramped. The staff were kind and welcoming and worked quickly to get orders filled. They were even very kind and accommodating of my service dog trainee (who was acting like a psychopath for a bit... she is not quite ready for sitting in food establishments without the aid of her big sister). For this reason, I requested my meal to-go, though had I been staying with my fully-trained official service dog, I am sure they would have been perfectly accommodating of her as well. The pup was having an unassisted training day. Thank you for understanding and, again, my apologies. Ha ha. I made a simple order of a Dragon Roll, a Christmas Roll, and the Pork Belly Ramen. We will go through each item individually: The Dragon Roll was exceptional! Though it is a simple classic and easy to make, it isn't always made WELL. This was a very good demonstration of their knowledge and execution of the basics. Christmas Roll was such a fun creation! It had wonderful flavor, was very light and refreshing, with a festive, crispy topping. All elements were well executed and well balanced. I chose this roll as it shows creativity and an understanding of more complex flavor and texture profiles WITHOUT leaning on the crutch of spicy flavor to cover up any lacking balance (you'd be surprised how many places lean on sriracha to mask imbalance). The structure of the roll was also perfect: not so loose as to fall apart, yet not so tight as to squeeze the ingredients together. This contributes to a lighter feeling roll on the palate that still holds together enough to have a bite taken without it ending up everywhere. Well done! The Pork Belly Ramen was also very well done and, at this, I am duly impressed. The miso-style broth has an excellent balance of salty and creamy while not being too greasy or watery. It is reminiscent of a Sapporo-style ramen with its rich, creamy miso flavor, delicious and tender pork slices, narutomaki, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, and perfectly spiced soy sauce egg! I tell you, I did NOT expect to encounter such a treat as a soy sauce egg here in Iowa. What a pleasant surprise! They do use spinach instead of seaweed, though I understand the choice (I'm sure it is not so popular here) and it was a delicious addition. Even though I am quite impartial to my Kurume-style Chashu ramen, this is, in my humble opinion, the closest I have ever had states-side. I was also very impressed by their to-go method of putting the broth and noodles/toppings in TWO separate containers! This keeps the broth from making the noodles soggy. This is a very considerate practice for the consumer. In summary, this establishment is -in my opinion- the best Japanese restaurant in SE Iowa at the very least. They are friendly and accommodating of service animals (note- I do not condone bringing PETS to sit-down indoor eatery establishments. Please do not try to enter sit-down eatery establishments with pets and non-service animals), people with disabilities, or who need special accommodations. Their flavors are well balanced and they have a love for their craft you can taste. The bathrooms are clean, fresh, and well-kept, and atmosphere is perfect for a fun night out with friends or a romantic evening with a loved one. They offer a full bar with excellent domestic and imported brands of beer. A true hidden gem in our little corner of Iowa.

We've been to Red Ginger multiple times in the past 6 months and every time the food is fast and fresh! I also placed a large order in December for a work gathering. We had it delivered and everything was perfectly packaged. Everyone loved what they ordered. We even split the fruit roll between all of us and all thumbs up! Favorites: - Dynamite Roll (pictured) - Lunch Boxes (you get to pick one from three different category and comes with rice, soup, and salad; served in a bento box style - all for $13) - Chicken Katsu

Hello to all my celiac and gluten free friends. I was in Iowa this week and I came and tried red ginger . I love that they had gluten free soy sauce :) and our server was so knowledgeable about celiac and gluten free . I had the Philadelphia roll and I believe the avocado roll. I did try the kimchi tho and I got a slice bloating from it , they did confirm it was gluten free but maybe my stomach wasn't used to it. Anyways we had a great time and I'll definitely going back

From the three times i've been here I can say this place never disappoints me. The food is delicious I enjoy the small salad they give me before a meal along with the miso soup. If I could i'd eat all the miso soup they have available there. Yes the food is pricey but it's not like a place you go to often it's a nice place to have a "fancy" get together and eat. Red Ginger is basically a place where you can treat yourself to some good asian cuisine. Now i'm not a fan of sushi, never was and never will be but my friends and mom say that the sushi there is really good. You definitely get what you pay for as they couldn't even finish their meals. Usually I get chicken/beef (I believe ) that's cooked and served with vegetables (I honestly forgot the name of the food item i'm sorry) and it's really delicious and juicy. Last time I ordered soba noodles (I hope that's the correct spelling and name) and let me tell you that plate of noodles was bigger than my face I didn't stand a chance finishing it. The staff there is really nice and the place is nice and clean as well. I'd go there more often if it wasn't too expensive but i'd rather treat Red Ginger as a place to go once in a while and have a nice peaceful dinner with close friends and family. I recommend you go eat here if you're a fan of...

Food average, not good service. List of bad things that happen to us in the first visit: We had to wait a lot to get a table even though they had tables available. They sit first other people that arrive after us. They rush us with the order. The order included soup, salad, and main dish. They served the main dish first then the soup and salad and just because we requested it. The Sushi was OK, average for a salmon roll and sashimi. The "green salad" was a hand bunch of lettuce with one cucumber slice and one grape tomate with a soup of dressing, and the appearance was not very appealing at all. The soup was average, not so much miso for a misso soup. They took very long to deliver the check, and when they did, it was the wrong check, and when they deliver the right check they did not return my credit card. I had to go the register to ask and they didn't known where it was. I found it over the bar counter. I am not the only one who had a bad experience at the restaurant, the guess next to me also complain about bringing the wrong dish or problems with the check either. Only one waitress was apologizing to everybody for other people's mistakes, she was great and trying to compensate but there were too many this time (not her fault, by the way). I am neither returning nor...
