Where to begin? Well first off let me add the disclaimer that this is not a spot for a large traveling party unless you are able to book multiple rooms. More of a single driver and couples spot.
With that out of the way, this was an absolute delight. Great little spot on the Oregon coast. An older style inn with 5 individual cottages lined up next to each other, but with completely updated interiors. Bright lighting, assigned parking per room (one space,) and well-insulated which is great on a cold Oregon coast night!
In the room we found a specially designed decorative piece that doubled as a 4 sided set of places in the area to check out, room policies, local restaurants and the like. The bed was comfortable and the folks who run the site keep the rooms up with extra soap, lotion, and even had a set of toothbrushes, shaving cream and razors. Fresh towels. Plates, glasses, mugs and coffee are also provided in room. Plenty of blankets. A great working heater. And the shower was nice and hot! It’s the perfect mix of an old style cottage roadside motel and a modernized boutique set of rooms. There is not an innkeeper on site but the rooms are clearly cleaned and sanitized daily and are well-tended and cared for. Entry to the room is on a keypad using a code that is texted and emailed to you, so check in is as easy as parking in your spot, putting in your code and entering your room. Perfect for a lovers get away or a comfortable spot to sleep and relax while exploring the Oregon coast. An absolute hidden gem in Depoe Bay.
The couple that runs it have two other properties in Lincoln City and Netarts as well which I would be curious to try out on future trips. We took a business card and are going to share this with our friends and family for future trips. We hope to come back and...
Read moreI stayed 2 nights at The Whale Inn during winter. My room felt very safe, with a sleek AirBNB vibe. The remodel was so fresh, and the room so sparkling clean, that I felt like the first person to stay there. Both bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. ||||The property is self-check with a lockbox code that is emailed before your stay. Travelocity fell down on providing my contact information to the owners but they responded within minutes of my call on the morning of check-in (on a holiday! Much thanks for that!)||||My room had a single queen, a nice new chest of drawers, microwave/coffee/small fridge, ample outlets, speedy WiFi, on-site free parking, and a kitchenette counter large enough for the laptop. It was a great little crashpad for a beach visit. If I was staying with my children, or staying longer, I'd ask for some sturdy hooks/racks to hang items (there is no closet) and a side chair or two. Minor highway noise didn't bother me, nor did the wall unit heater or fridge. All worked fine.||||The Whale Inn is walking distance to local coffee (across the street), a small public park with benches that faces the ocean (also across the street), a gas station/convenience store (next property over), the excellent Tidal Raves restaurant (quarter-block away), and a Chinese restaurant I didn't have a chance to try. Very reasonable rates, and I never heard a peep from the neighbors. I'd definitely...
Read moreThis tiny (7 room) motel set side-on to the highway in Depoe Bay is beautifully maintained and decorated. It's just a bit too far from downtown to be walkable but right across the road from the Tidal Raves restaurant and the Pirate coffee shop. The king size bed in our unit (#6) was comfy with high end linens but we were glad we brought our own pillows. The bathroom was tiny and had no heat source so winter stays may be chilly but there was lots of shelf space for your things and high end toiletries generously supplied. The kitchenette (no stove) was spotless and had basic dishes for heating leftovers, etc. There was no ice in the freezer and none available on site. Main quibble: no place to eat. There were two low stuffed swiveling chairs which were not as comfy as they looked for older cranky backs and a charming but largely useless credenza under the flat screen TV. They are dog-friendly and provide a cover for furniture. The place was full the night we stayed but we did not hear a peep from the other guests and our room was almost the furthest from the highway so hardly any road noise either. Everything is done remotely so no Covid concerns there. We liked the place but the lack of a place to sit and eat would be a dealbreaker for longer than a...
