I read about this wine tasting shop online- it had good reviews. I'm sorry, but this was the worst wine tasting any of us (me, my wife, and another couple) have ever had.
The only enjoyable part was the young woman who poured the wines. Sorry, but I forgot her name. She may have been part Asian, and possibly from Hawaii.
We stopped by last Thursday, 5/9 in the afternoon. First, the tasting room is very small. The floor is sloped and uneven. The ceiling is too low and the dollars hanging from the ceiling hit your head if you are 6' tall or more. I am 6' and my friend at 6'5" could only stand in a few spots. Further, please get rid of the Covid-19 glass window relic that separates the customers from the area behind the bar. It is ugly and just reminds people of the pandemic!
The first strike (2d, 3d?) is that the wine is serve in plastic cups. I have been wine tasting for over 30 years and have never seen this before. If you have to serve your wine in plastic, then something must be wrong. Further, there were real glasses hanging at the bar! The hostess commented that they didn't have a dishwasher. Well, OK then pack up the dirty glasses each night and take them home and wash them in your Kitchenaid and bring them back the following day.
The lady poured us tastes of several wines. They all sucked. The Merlot was drinkable, but the Cabernet was absolutely horrible. You would be better off by buying Charles Shaw at TJs. This stuff tasted like 2Buck Chuck rejects mixed w/ Welch's Grape Juice and diluted at the spigot out back, and was too sweet.
If you are a tourist with no appreciation whatsoever of good wines, and love kitschy, claustrophobic places, and only appreciate sweet beverages, then you will...
Read moreWhat a great tasting room! My sister and I happened upon this place while strolling along in Depoe Bay.
We each did a flight; my sister did the reds, and I did combination of white and the fruits. Neither of us tried a wine we didn’t like. We each ended up buying a bottle of wine, and no doubt I’ll be back soon.
The gentleman who helped us was very knowledgeable about the wines and helped us on our wine flight journeys.
The small tasting room has a ceiling covered in dollar bills, which will be donated to an animal shelter. Speaking of, if Orca is in the house, you must say hi to the sweetest black lab/springer mix. He’s behind the counter but accepts pets if you’re so inclined.
If you’re visiting Depoe Bay, you need to...
Read moreI haven't been here in a few years, but I can't imagine it is anything less than the fabulous place I remember from my many visits there with the family! I love fruit wines and they have a wide selection of fun flavors. The environment is fun with the cave thing going on, and personal touch from patrons. One of the best aspects is the location where you can watch the ocean and sip your wine! The "wine-temptress" is still one of my favorite wine servers ever! ;-) Wish I could remember her name! I can't wait to get back and check it out again! Update: returned and yes..it is still the same! Wonderful wine and a new wine temptress! What a variety! The fruit wines are real and steel barrel as...
