It is hard to put into words how grateful I am to have found this beautiful place. With the Pandemic in place our long awaited tropical trip to St Lucia had been canceled and we have been stuck in isolation for 3 months. I heard on a Facebook group that the Oregon coast was open and I went searching for a redeeming trip for my husband and I. When I called and found out this place was open and we were the first ones to stay after the quarantine was lifted I stoped all my searching and booked two nights. Hands down what sold me is the private deck and firepit with a majestic Ocean View on a small cove.
We have stayed in a dozen places along the Oregon coast in the last 20 years and nothing compares to the view and luxury of this location. When you drive in and pull over on the side of the highway right as you get into Depoe Bay, you don't know what to expect. Then you are greeted by the most kind and friendly owner you have ever met. Diane goes over all of your options with you for eating in the area and other attractions before you check in. Then she gives you a tour of your accommodations. Even though they have two Apartments in there downstairs there are private entrances to both. We never even saw the other person on the other side, not even from our private desk.
You enter through a private gate into a garden with a table. On the other side of that deck are two chairs and a fire pit with an open View of the ocean. They supply all the firewood and fire starters you need which is incredible. They even have marshmallow pokers and ingredients to make your own s'mores in the cupboard. To be able to relax day or night outside with their blankets on the porch is the most therapeutic thing or us.
When you walk into the apartment it is sweetly decorated with antiques in a beautiful fashion. Sink, refrigerator freezer, microwave and full size coffee pot. (we went to the market in town and bought fresh ground coffee from the local roaster and some cream so we could enjoy coffee on the deck! But she has some packets of coffee in the cupboard if you don't care about your coffee flavor). She even as little touches like snacks or bottled water which is something that you don't see in any hotels. Dishes, silverware, coffee and tea. Couch, cable TV, lots of DVDs to watch, queen size bed and a cute bathroom with deep 1 person jacuzzi tub & shower. The stonework in the bathroom was beautiful.
Every wall is almost floor-to-ceiling windows. To be able to lay in bed and look at the ocean from any view in the room is spectacular. There's even an additional deck the other side of the fire pit area. Now I know there's nowhere else we would rather be for a romantic couples weekend then here. Stop looking and enjoy the most beautiful view on the coast in a peaceful and relaxing setting. Tell Diane, Rachelle Layzell sent you. What an incredible gift for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. Didn't want to leave to go back home and be business...
Read moreThe room we rented wasn't as good as we anticipated...it was better...in fact much better ! A lot of thought went into the décor, furnishings and room layout. The large bay windows and outside redwood deck area gave us an excellent view of the ocean and cove area where the whales feed, we saw several whale sightings and of course the beautiful shoreline and adjacent surroundings only added to the pleasurable moments.
Joe and Dian thought of everything when it comes to comfort, relaxation, and preparedness, the numerous binoculars, emergency umbrella, exterior fire place and blankets for outside deck area was thoughtful thinking on their behalf, the comfortable bed, seating, kitchen area and large walk in shower was an "A" plus and of course the most mentionable asset to this room was the privacy and sound proofing, we had no problems with neighbors, traffic, or annoying distractions.
The town itself was also a plus in regard to eating, entertainment and tourist shopping, it wasn't overly crowed and the traffic was very acceptable. This was an "A" plus in our book and hopefully we'll be able to return soon to repeat the memorable moments and satisfying stay.
Thumbs up for the Whales...
Read moreWe spent 4 glorious days at the Whales Rendezvous in mid November, 2020. We were warmly welcomed by our Inn Keepers- Dian and Joe. The memorable apartment hung out over the Pacific Ocean and was so comfortable - that we hesitated to leave our cozy 'room with a view'. We had sunshine, gale winds, hail storms, king tides and rain throughout the course of our 4 day visit- and loved every minute of our time on this incredibly beautiful stretch of the Oregon Coast. There is simply no reason to go any further south than historic Newport (10 miles) or father north than the incredible beaches of Lincoln City (10 miles). Staying close to home in Depoe Bay was quite incredible, as well. There were several great places to eat all within 15 minutes of Whales Rendezvous and we didn't eat anywhere that we wouldn't highly recommend or try again. If you are looking to take in the Central Oregon Coast- look no further than the Whales Rendezvous. But don't delay because I am sure that their two really lovely apartments book up quickly.
