For 30+ years we stayed at Silver Dunes. Every June you knew the Miller, Hollis, and Stogner families were coming for a week of relaxation and family time. 2019, however, would be the last time we would go. We didn’t mind the yearly price increases all that much, even though the price kept rising and nothing really got any better. We just paid it and forgot about it. We didn’t mind the lack of amenities compared to other places in town because “we’re here for the beach. We don’t need anything else.” No, it’s the extremely poor attitude of the staff, their brazen attempts to lie, and their indifference to paying customers that sounded the alarm to never return. The first day, the A/C went out. Not a great start, but “put in a call to maintenance and we’ll be alright”. No maintenance came. For three days we stayed in a condo with no working A/C, because the staff said they had sent someone and were told there was nothing wrong. Finally, my mom had had enough and posted to a “Silver Dunes Condos Owners” Facebook group about the situation, and the owner said THEY would have it resolved. I ran into a maintenance man and asked him to come by. He’d never been told there was a problem by the staff, came in and fixed it right up. When we told the staff it was finally fixed, the receptionist was snotty and rude. “Well WE did what WE were supposed to!” She snarked, indignantly. I asked her how she thought it was reasonable to go 3 days without A/C......in Destin......in the middle of June. “Well, you’re at the beach, why are you in the condo anyway?” She argued. “Ok, looks like we’re done here” I sighed. She asked us where our check was for next year’s rental (at an increase of a few hundred dollars, to boot). I replied that we wouldn’t be coming back. I can deal with an A/C unit not working. I won’t deal with rude staff. When I replied that we weren’t EVER coming back, she scoffed as if I had offended her mother. “Well, where are you going to stay then? No one offers what we do” she asked. “Anywhere but here” I replied, and walked out the door,...
Read moreBooked reservations begging of June for 6/26- 7/4 a week before our arrival we got an email our reservation would be cancelled due to change in management. After 3 days of calling trying to get a refund we finally talked to someone and we were able to get our money back and rebook our stay for $200 more (through new management) which was fine. A week later we finally get here and check in. We were in unit 22, the place was absolutely disgusting. We had to go out to buy cleaning supplies to clean the bathtub because it was black (some obvious wear and tear) but the water from the bathtub was dirty from it not being cleaned. The master was not vacuumed, there was chunks of mud, behind the nightstand were old water bottles, with inches of dust. The floor all over the place was dirty and hadn’t been swept nor mopped. My 10 month old found nails in the living room while crawling. We never got a welcome packet in our room so we had to be let in the gate by the security guards (they all were extremely friendly and welcoming) we called someone to at the office to get a code, she said she’ll call back and never did. The next morning we were given a code that was invalid so we go to the office and finally got a new code that worked. While we were in the office we mentioned that the unit we were in was dirty when we checked in and were told that they hadn’t cleaned nor gone into that unit that only the old management had cleaned and gone into it and not the new one. Impressive how the new management hired new housekeeping in a week. Our trip was nice except the unit we got it definitely was not...
Read moreIf I could give this room 0 stars I would. The furniture is very worn and dirty to the point you don’t even want to sit on it. There is a sitting bench in the room as well and I wouldn’t even touch it due to it having urine and femine stains on it. So disgusting! There is no cabinet space to put any of your food and one of the chairs in the dining room was broken so my husband had to fix it. There is nothing inviting about room A203. The hallways bathroom door doesn’t lock and the windows looking out to the pool have no curtains or blinds on them so everyone can see in your room at all times, which is a complete privacy issue. The chairs on the patio look to be about 30 years old and are dirty and disgusting as well. Oh and the a/c vents are all rusted. The pictures on the website must’ve been either been taken when the furniture was brand new or it was altered in some way. Very disappointing as we literally had to find another place to stay at a moment’s notice. Ate the cost of the room which was $3600 because it was that bad ! If you stay at Silver Dunes, don’t get room A203. In addition, the location is in a busy part of Destin so getting in and out was a challenge due to all the traffic of it being on...
