Coming up with a rating for this place was difficult. We liked the place, but there were some headaches. Let me break it down for you.
First, there are two types of rental properties. You have proactive properties and reactive. The proactive make sure everything is perfect before you check in. They put the effort up front to make sure you are happy. These places are more expensive compared to reactive properties, which give you a decent place that needs some repair/cleaning and waits for you to complain before correcting the issue. DBC 215 is a reactive property. Now, we guessed this would be the case before renting, because the cost was a little less than nearby low rises. I don't lower their rating because of this, it is part of doing business. Not everybody wants a perfect condo- they can live with a few inconveniences and use the extra cash they save for nice dinners. I am rating this property as compared to other reactive properties I have stayed at. Overall I am happy with the stay, but was surprised at the number of things we asked to be fixed.
We rented through Ocean Reef resorts, and they were very friendly and responsive. For that, I would give 4 out of 5 stars. They would not allow an early check in (due to "deep cleaning" which turned out to be a joke), however. Other places allow it and it is a very desirable option. I will definitely factor this into my next company I rent from.
I did not have interaction with the condo owners, but they did provide some nice amenities in the condo. Wear and tear was just a little above average despite some nice remodeling work that had been done. The comfort of the beds and furniture was above average (not the linens however). Plenty of hot water and no bugs. So that was a plus.
The cleaning crew should be fired. Our feet were dirty from walking around on the day we arrived. Ocean Reef sent them back with instructions to clean the floors thoroughly, which they did.
There were a myriad of other problems with the unit. The dryer took 12 hours to dry the sheets even with constant emptying of the water reservoir and lint filter. (We had to go to Target and buy jersey sheets because the linens were too scratchy). We reported it and they discovered the drain line was clogged. We asked they fix for the next renters and just used lots of extra towels. There is also laundry with nice new washers and dryers on site, so we made due.
The overall cleanliness of the unit troubled us. We found a couple of tooth flossers under furniture, stickers on the walls, dirt around door jams, dirty foot prints all over bunk beds, and the mats/carpet were full of sand. I think the cleaning crew was just very lazy and probably nobody had brought it to the owner's attention. We decided to wash EVERYTHING we touched or ate off of, and probably lost an entire day of our vacation trying to do the job of the cleaning crew.
The bunk beds lacked proper rails for safety. All that was provided was a flimsy net that could not attach to anything. A friend of ours had to take their daughter to the ER on vacation because of a cracked skull resulting from this recently, so it was an issue.
Other things included the safe not operating, the ballast in the kitchen was going bad (we reported it but it had not been fixed when we left), and the washer/dryer was leaking (clogged drain line).
Pluses: We did not bring K cups, expecting a regular coffee pot. They (Ocean Reef and/or the owners) were very quick to provide a brand new combo coffee maker. The beach chair guy (Adam) was great, and the location can't be beat.
All in all, compared to other similar properties we have rented, this place offered a nice vacation with a few inconveniences we had to deal with... but Ocean Reef was very responsive. It would have been great to receive some compensation for lost time and inconvenience trying to clean the condo so we would feel safe (one of us is high risk for Covid). I think had we known that Covid was going to be an issue when we booked, I would have spent more money on a...
Read moreOmg! If someone asks what made me fall in love with destin florida... it was this place right here! Not only did we make our trip last minute but didn't realize it was memorial weekend too... we're spontaneous and take random trips.. getting to Destin late Thursday night.. stayed in a motel and set off to find a condo the following morning.. and thank goodness we found destin beach club! The 2 young ladies at the front were so sweet .. check in is at 4 but we were called a little before 2pm about our room being ready. This is our forever go to for now on. The room was so fresh.. clean and beautiful. Nothing better than Beach front! We were on the 2nd floor 204 I believe. It only has 3 levels.. it gives the feel of a calm and private cozy little place. No long elevator waits.. no over crowding on the beach.. just perfect! We booked 4 rooms for September for all our family to enjoy plus one at their sister condos next door.. were renewing 25years of marriage 😁😉. So yup.. this place won us for sure. I Highly...
Read moreGreat place to stay! Convenient, easy beach access and close to restaurants and shopping. Staff is wonderful! Unit is well stocked (could use some salt/pepper) I have a few suggestions for unit 110. This unit is right next to a gate that gives access to the beach, to all tenants. it would be nice if there was a way to put some padding on the gate because every time it slams shut you can hear it in the master bedroom. We were awaken on more than occasion . The toaster needs replaced, and the handle on the microwave is broken and looks like it’s been repaired a few times but the lower part comes off every time you open the door. A couple lightbulbs are burnt out in the hallway bath. We also spotted 2 very small cockroaches in the bathroom, but hey it’s Florida so it’s to be expected. We will definitely stay at Destin Beach Club again but probably...
