My wife and I camped. There are about 5 spots on grass, which are very large, but on the downside have no shade.||As we came and left Dodge City, we did not see any camping options for many miles, so for campers, this is probably your best option.||The KOA looks like most of the KOA's in which we have stayed. They have a nice central building, and they have a dog park (although no shade, and it hot Dodge City, that is a negative).||On the negative side, the checkin could have been a little more friendly, we were given no wifi code, and the washroom facilities needed work. My wife said that the showers looked dirty and she would not use them. I noted that in the mens washroom, one of the three or four toilets was out of order and the others had what I would call a "low flush" issue, in that it took two flushes to fully dispose of all waste in toilet, generally, the second flush would get rid of the remaining tissues in the toilet. This should be addressed ASAP. One thing that I found really annoying was that the huge toilet paper rolls are cheap and of low quality, so with each tug, the paper would tear and you would get one or two sheets, and then you'd have to try and find the end of the roll and start all over again; this is not acceptable and saving a few $$ in this area is not a great way to retain customer favour.||The MOST SIGIFICANT ISSUE, however, is that there did not appear to be any security in the park. I do not recall a guard or any park employee driving or walking the park to ensure that everyone in the park actually belonged in the park. I counted at least 5 cars (muscle cars and beat up old cars with young locals) in the brief period around sunset that came in and cruised the park, playing loud music - this is an obvious security risk that should be IMMEDIATELY addressed. Should the park hire a guard, they could also have that guard change the bags in the waste cans which are also full to overflowing.||I am a big fan of KOA's, and this one with a little attention could be as good as the average KOA, or better, but for the moment, the deficiencies that I have noted should...
Read moreTruly the worst KOA I have ever stayed in, if this was my first experience with KOA I would probably never seek one out again. My wife and I reserved a one night stay in a tent site and arrived at 3pm to find the office closed and unattended. Check in paperwork was left out and instructions were clear as far as getting ourselves situated but I would expect someone to be in office 3 hours before posted closing time. My wife and I had hoped to upgrade our stay to one in a cabin as we had seen there was an extreme thunderstorm warning and thought we would rather not try and weather the storm in a tent, however with no one in site this was not possible. When it came to picking a tent site we struggled a bit as all of them had overflowing trash cans and some had tall grass that was in need of attention. At one of the far sites there appeared to be an individual camping out who may not have gone through the traditional channels to reserve a spot (typically not bothered by this sort of thing but it did give us pause when we considered leaving our site to visit attractions.). When investigating the amenities we were surprised to find many of the stalls in the men's room lacked any bathroom tissue, I Believe only two of the stalls seemed ready to use. A couple of the stalls were also out of order and had a large pool of water leaking out from under the doors. My wife reported that all the womens trashes and sanitary bins were overflowing and the floor had a good deal of trash on it. Finally as we headed to bed it became apparent that the flood lighting surrounding the lot was going to make falling asleep quite hard we got rained out of the tent and had to finish the night off in the car. Obviously nobody can control the weather but it would have been nice to have options. It is also worth mentioning that while visiting the Boothill museum we overheard a number of other visitors complaining about the state of the KOA and the lack of staff present on site. Not swearing off KOAS but definitely swearing off the one...
Read moreThis is most of an email that I sent to the management. Not surprisingly, I did not receive a response:
I wanted to say that I am extremely disappointed with my stay. Quite frankly, if I were KOA and discovered what was going on at this establishment, I would end the franchise immediately.
Let's start with the things that should be noted on the website prior to anyone booking a site. This being the closed bath house and the broken camp wifi. Your camp attendant tried to make it seem like these were recent events but the south bath house has been closed for over a month and the camp wifi out for longer than that. This is deceptive and immoral.
Your club house men's room reeks of urine and has a puddle that was never even mopped on 7/14 (I checked). I guess the wet floor sign is enough. Your attendant left early on 7/13 by at least 10 minutes. I came up to buy ice. When I called the after hours number, the person that answered at the HOLIDAY INN pretended I had called the wrong number. Only after repeated pressure did she admit that I had called the correct number. I asked for a call back twice from a manager and never received one.
Your campgrounds' occupational licensing, I am certain, is dependent on having both sets of bathrooms functional. I don't know about Kansas but in Ohio, the Health department REQUIRES more commodes than you have functional for the amount of people. In addition, your men's room has an electrical code problem.
This place is a trip to the hospital waiting to happen if you use the bathrooms. Corporate refuses to do anything since this KOA is a...
