Super unimpressed with this restaurant. We were in from out of town and were told this was a great spot for a relaxed dinner. It was chaos from the moment we walked in. The place was not overly busy. It had an average crowd for a Saturday night. There were three parties ahead of us that each had 2 - 4 people and there were five open tables on the floor that could have comfortably seated all of us. It took 30 minutes to seat us (all of us, not just my party). We were placed at a table toward the back, in clear view of the kitchen, and were able to see what the issue was. Despite having enough staff to serve the patrons in house, the staff seemed to be more focused on cranking out the to-go orders that were coming in.
When we were seated, the table was sticky, so we asked our waitress if we could get a wet rag to clean it. She rolled her eyes and grabbed a random rag off the server station, then quickly swiped it across our table and disappeared to get our drinks. The table was still so sticky we had to take our napkins and water and clean it ourselves. The waitress reappeared to take our order, but we didn't see her again for another 20 - 25 minutes, despite needing a refill on our drinks. When she finally popped back by, she just quickly told us that our order was next, then disappeared again.
We waited another 20 minutes and finally saw what we correctly assumed was our order brought to the pass. Now, over the course of the evening, we had watched wait staff snacking on onion rings that were in a metal bowl that was sitting on the pass. We were disgusted to see that when our order came up, our side of onion rings was pulled from this bowl and placed on our plate. Mind you, the staff had been digging into this bowl, bare handed, the entire evening, presumably after handling money, credit cards, and dirty rags without washing their hands. Gross.
Our order then sat on the pass for 10 minutes before our waitress retrieved it and brought it to our table. We noticed one of our sides was missing and started to bring this to her attention, when she finally told us the kitchen was out of the side, but they could get me something else, "if I wanted." Seriously? In the 40+ minutes since I ordered, no one could bother to tell me what I ordered wasn't available? I declined because I didn't feel like waiting another 40+ minutes for a replacement side.
The food was mid. The steak was tough, had no real flavor, and wasn't cooked to temp. The onion rings were cold, and we didn't even bother to try them, given what we saw. And no provision was made for the side that we never got.
Given the cost of the meal, it should have been much, much better and the service should have been decent. We weren't expecting 5-star handling, but a basic interest in making sure we were okay would have been nice. Had they not been more focused on the to-go orders, we might have had a decent experience, but as it...
Read moreI've heard that Dodge City prides itself on beef, claiming to have some of the best burgers and steaks in all of Kansas. When I asked the lady at the visitor's center, she recommended this restaurant, so I came in with pretty high expectations. I was not disappointed. The steak was tender and flavorful, seasoned well (evenly throughout the meat instead of all in one place, and not too heavily). Not once did it turn to chewing gum in my mouth. (Some places serve steaks that you have to chew like cud, but this steak was nothing like that. I had no problem whatsoever.) You know how things cooked on the grill have sort of an extra special flavor that you just can't quite put into words, but it's delicious? I definitely tasted that in my steak. I gladly concede that the reputation is honestly earned rather than mere bragging: Dodge has excellent beef, and this restaurant certainly knows how to prepare it properly.
By the way, I asked for a drink, saying, "Surprise me," and the server did indeed bring me one. It was cool and refreshing. I don't know how to describe it, but it tasted like unwinding after a long day rather than getting ready to be the life of the party, and that's exactly what I needed. It was a good day, but certainly a long one, so yes, I did need to relax a little. I found the slight fruity flavor to be appropriate for summer, like sitting on a tropical beach with your toes in the water.
I found out later that the server herself made the recommendation to the barista for what kind of drink to prepare. My compliments on her selection.
More than that, I appreciate her integrity. When I paid my bill, I said, "Bring my back ten dollars, and keep the rest." When she brought back the change, she asked, "You wanted ten, right? Is that what you told me?" Yes, it was. However, by double checking, she showed that she wanted to be honest and avoid problems with miscommunication, and I can definitely appreciate people like that.
By the way, the lady who seated me before my server arrived was also super friendly. She asked if I wanted a booth or table. I said either. She then asked if a table was okay. Yes, it was. She then had me follow her to a certain section and asked which table I wanted. I said one with a view if possible, and she pointed one out.
Getting a table near a row of windows long enough for you to see pedestrians on the sidewalk below you, as well as the cars that go by, isn't necessarily the most important thing in a restaurant, but it's a definite fringe benefit. Adds to the atmosphere because it lets you soak up the town while you wait for your meal. I would have left this place a good review for the excellent service and superb food even without the table by the window, but yes, I did enjoy...
Read moreTraveling is what my husband and I do! This is by far the worst place I've been to in a very long time! We entered the Cowboy Capital saloon and grill restaurant and stood at the podium for about 10 minutes.
No one ever came to even greet us or welcome us in.
So we decided to just adorn the bar. We found 2 seats and sat eagerly waiting to order and be acknowledged.
We sat waiting another 15 minutes before my husband finally decided to get us menus himself.
We began looking over the menu, thinking "of course they will see us reviewing the menu" But, no! We waited another 20 minutes before the bartender (Corina) decided to even acknowledge our presence.
We finally ordered our drinks and about 10 minutes later we ordered our food.
I ordered the "new" Capstone blue, which is a 8oz filet mignon, wrapped in apple wood smoked bacon and topped with blue cheese and sauteed mushrooms.
It came out nothing like described on the menu! It was an extremely tasteless, it had what I think to be a slice of bar-s bacon wrapped around it and it was dry and flavorless.....đ
They told me after they brought it out that they didn't have mushrooms and I guess the cook decided it to be a good idea to smother the steak in onion that was half raw and blue cheese????
Never a smart choice, what if I would have been allergic?
In my opinion, That's a complete disregard for the customer.
The sides I chose came in small Styrofoam cups, extremely cold.....đ
I would expect that from a burger joint but not a well renowned steakhouse. It was disappointing to say the least.
The saving grace for the night was a gal named LAI-LEI. If it wasn't for her we would have got up and left.
She was extremely kind and tried to make everything better! Her skills behind the bar are impeccable as well as her ability to see what needs to be addressed and fixed. She should be made head bartender!!!!
If you are thinking of stopping in to have a meal, my advice would be to keep driving. Unless you are happy with being ignored and disregarded.
Extremely...
