I am looking to refinish my bedroom and bathroom and heard great things about this place. I like that I can go buy the materials myself and do the job on my own - especially in a pandemic. I drove about an hour to visit this location. The selection and pricing were fine - which is the only reason they are getting two stars.
Their website boasts that masks are required and that staff wear masks - Iām here to tell you that this is not what they actually practice. There was a table near the entrance with some disposable masks and hand sanitizer, but nobody was posted there to actually make sure that customers used masks.
I understand that you canāt control the general public. But there were multiple families (i.e. adults and their multiple children) with no sign of a mask on them. Their kids were running around climbing on anything they could. And not a single employee even approached these people to ask them (from 6ft away) to put on a mask. Not only the families were an issue - half the other customers were not wearing masks, and if they were, they were on the chin or sitting well below the nose. The store is relatively small and quiet - itās easy to hear everybodyās interactions, and not a single employee even attempted to enforce the mask mandate.
For the most part the employees were fine, but there were a few who were also not wearing their masks correctly.
Again, I understand that it is difficult to control the general populace. However, Iāve worked in the public since the pandemic began, and I absolutely was able to enforce the mask mandate for both my employees and our guests. People were rude, and it can be scary to try to talk to them, but we all still did it, because I care about their health. I try to do my part and stay home as much as I can. Where more stores are putting health guidelines in place, I do venture out from time to time as safely as I can. But this store was my FAR the worst shopping experience Iāve had, health-wise, since covid appeared in the area. It was terribly disappointing to see so many people without the decency to care about the people around them.
As my partner and I left this store, we vowed to never return, because the impression this store gave us is that they do not have a shred of decency to care for the health of their customers, and the citizens in this area donāt care about...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's so easy to "Look good and take care of a customer" when things are normal, and the sun is shinning inside everyone. But what about when projects and intentions have gone astray - when errors and omissions have netted a less than acceptable result? To whom do we turn to in those difficult, complex and even uncertain moments? This exact scenario just played out on the very last stages of our "dream home build", to say it was exaggerating, frustrating, confusing and trying - is nothing less than the "Cliff notes" versions of what my wife and I were experiencing when we looked at the results of our bathroom "tile job" that (after spending lots of $ on a high quality natural stone tile) which appeared to us much like a Jason Pollock abstract masterpiece - of course missing the "master" part. It was with some trepidation and lots of hope and faith that we reached out to Olivia Shanks - the manager of your store in Draper Utah. Much to our delight and peace of mind - from the very start, her friendly, customer centered, professionally knowledgeable and common sense approach captivated and reassured us. Through the next few days, at her personal invitation, we visited the store - calmly sat with her - and felt immediately "taken care of". We were able to easily find a solution, a plan, which in the end will in fact net us the results we have so wanted for so long. Our deepest appreciation to her - not only for her immediate, respectful professional response - but more so for the excellent "bed side manner' with which she turned "lemon juice into lemonade". As a professional observer and evaluator of human behavior for over 50 years, I have witnessed first-hand both sides of this equation. Unequivocally Olivia rests on the side of positive worth and values. She is definitely a true asset to your organization and in my opinion deserving of much higher responsibilities. Please pass along to her our most sincere appreciation and respect. One more thing- GIVE HER A RAISE! Kind regards, M....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went to this location today to look for tiling options for a major bathroom renovation. The minute I walked in the door I was yelled at by a female employee at the door about how I could not enter the store without a mask according to the Salt Lake County mandate. I explained to the employee that the mandate gives exemptions for people with health issues (which I have and are exacerbated by a mask which I have tried wearing) and furthermore people with health issues are protected under the American Disabilities Act.
"The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became law in 1990. The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public."
She began arguing with me that it didnāt matter, it was corporate policy and that I needed to leave. I asked for the phone number to the corporate office and she instead went and retrieved a manager. He was kind at least and told me the same thing to which I responded with the same information. I was repeatedly told they were following the mandate. However, this is not an accurate statement as they are ignoring a portion of the mandate specifying the exemption for those with health issues.
"Salt Lake Countyās order, which says that if a person ācannot psychologically or medically tolerate wearing a maskā an exception can be made."
I was finally given the number to the corporate office and called. The recording I reached gave no options for speaking to anyone about this type of issue. In summary, I was treated with hostility by the first employee, the mandate exemption was ignored, and a Federal Law was broken. The company may want to reconsider breaking Federal Law and stop cherry-picking which part of the mandate they want to follow. Legal action can be taken. This company and specifically this store in Draper, UT will not be getting...
