I stayed there on the night of Thursday, March 7, 2024. The evening of checking in, I confirmed with the front desk clerk that they served breakfast in the morning, but it was not free. So, on the morning of the 8th, I went down to breakfast, fully expecting to pay. At most hotels, when you must pay for breakfast it is either (1) served like a traditional diner, where a hostess greets you, and a sever takes your order, and there is an actual menu to order from, or (2) it is a buffet, like is common of continental breakfasts, except there are several food options and the food is, if not great, at least acceptable. There is also usually someone to greet you and seat you, and take your room number.
This is not either of these. When I arrived on the morning of the 8th, I walked up, expecting a hostess to seat me. There was no one around whatsoever, save two patrons eating their breakfast at tables. I walked up to the limited buffet, with no one around at all. Nothing but a sign indicating that someone would be happy to serve me at the hot bar, and that the breakfast cost $19.85. I was confused, because I was standing at the hot bar, and there was no one around. I thought, "maybe the buffet is free, and there is a restaurant on the other side of the hotel?" I walked out, wondered around, saw nothing, and walked back in. Still, there was no one around to seat me, serve me food at the hot bar, or take my room number. In fact, the buffet choices were turned, facing me, not someone who might be serving me food.
I decided to flip the lids up to see what was being offered for breakfast. Options were (1) small biscuits about a hard as a rock, (2) not-so-tempting cream of wheat (3) grits (4) lackluster bacon, and (5) some sort of breakfast potato, and (6) acceptable scrambled eggs. There was also a small assortment of breads, muffins, fruit, and two options of juice.
In short, all of them items once would expect to find in your average FREE continental breakfast.
After examining the food, and still no one to serve me, seat me, or provide me with any information at all, I determined that maybe this is a continental breakfast, and was in fact, free.
It wasn't until I sat down that someone offered me coffee. No further information was asked of me. No bill was presented to me. I turned down the coffee, finished eating, and left.
As I was getting back on the elevator, I heard someone yelling, "SIR....SIR!" It didn't occur that I was the "sir" in question, until, as the elevator doors were shutting, someone tried to stick their hand in, and the doors slightly opened, though not even for me to see anyone, shut, slightly opened, and shut again. At this point, I realized, someone was trying to get my attention.
I went up to my room, collected my belongings, went down to the front desk to check out, and decided to be honest, and inform the front desk clerk that I also had breakfast, and to please tack that onto my final bill. The clerk then gestured towards the lady who asked me whether I wanted coffee and asked her whether I was the person she was looking for...and yes, apparently I was.
The coffee lady then very rudely told me, "BREAKFAST ISNT FREE SIR, YOU NEED TO PAY FOR THAT!" I attempted to explain that is exactly what I was trying to do here at the front desk, while I was checking out. She then told me that I couldn't pay at the front desk and to follow her. So I did...to some back room of the dining area, not at all visible in the dining area, where I was billed $19.85 + tax for a hard roll, crappy bacon, and what could pass for eggs. They even have the nerve to include a tip line. I left $1.00, as I figured the lady did attempt to serve me coffee and presumably cleaned up after me.
This is the most I have ever paid for what should have been, a FREE breakfast. I could have gone to Chik Fil A, spent half as much, and had a larger and more fulfilling meal.
Avoid the breakfast, unless you want to spend $20 on lackluster food, and absolutely no...
Read moreCustomer service was unlike any other Doubletree I’ve ever encountered. Which to say the least is not a good thing. Upon entering the lobby on 3/18/22, three ladies were behind the desk and it was very difficult to discern who worked for the establishment. Turns out that all three worked there. There were no uniforms or name tags and a lack of professionalism. I was presented my keys, however, the keys did not open the elevator nor the door for my room. You’re better off downloading and using the digital key which worked fine. At any rate, upon opening the room, we discovered a pile of pillows without pillowcases stacked on a table, and the beds appeared to be unmade, the floor was dirty and stained with what appeared to be blood. As for the bathroom, the shower curtains emitted a mildew smell, the tub was dingy with rust stains around the drain. There was a dirt buildup in the corners of the tile, no toilet paper and just a set of towels. There was no coffee or condiments. The smoke detector and sprinkler were also missing from the wall.everyone knows that a room should be replenished and cleaned before renting it out to someone else. I went downstairs to report the shortcomings and requested another room. I was told there were no other rooms available. They’re all filled up. The front desk called to have someone come up and make the beds. The young lady arrived and advised that she normally just launders and doesn’t really clean the rooms. Yet, she was pleasant and completed the task at hand. We pointed out the fact there were no smoke detectors or sprinklers in the room. They appeared to have been broken or removed from their housing on the wall. The young lady contacted maintenance for the repair. A very unkempt guy (claiming to be maintenance arrived) and did not appear to be interested in the fact of the smoke detector and sprinkler missing. He did mention going down to acquire the items. However, he never returned to repair or replace the items…..he ghosted us. I contacted the front desk to ask for maintenance…the front desk person said very sternly “we just have one maintenance man, and he’s very busy”. Just wait til he gets to you. 😳 We were aware they had a restuarant, so we had planned to have dinner there upon arrival, only to discover it was closed, but we could order from a piece of paper consisting of 5 unsavory items at the bar. As we read that piece of paper, we spotted that maintenance guy. (Didn’t appear busy). The snack bar should probably be vending machines instead of some highly priced items placed in baskets and refrigerators and displayed. Disappointed, we headed to the room and ran into “the maintenance guy” walking down the hall and past our door. We asked about an update on the fire system, he initially didn’t have a clue of what we were even talking about, then after reminding him, he advised that he didn’t have keys to get inside the maintenance room. 🤔 I reserved and paid for my room online, only to be charged an entirely different price, not a lower price either. This was a massive fail Doubletree. You should be ashamed to have that establishment carrying your name. I never felt I had to read reviews before staying at a Doubletree, but If I had read them beforehand, they wouldn’t have received one red cent from me. Believe every single negative review people. I’ve stayed in many hotels/motels and even tents during the Gulf War, and this is by far the worst place I’ve ever stayed. After driving 10 hours then finding out all other establishments were filled upon seeing this mess…..we got a quick nap in, then continued un-refreshed for an additional 13 hour drive. This place is disgusting and should be demolished. We arrived at 8p and were out of there by 3:30a, feeling...
Read moreSUMMARY: Just go ahead and book elsewhere. The S*show: Our experience was completely tarnished by an appalling bar server. Her interactions with customers throughout the evening were viciously rude and unprofessional.
The restaurant is not open for dinner. However, in the Lobby's bar, we asked for a food menu after noticing another couple eating. We were told they only served four things - mozzarella sticks, wings, a burger and fries or brisket on a bun. The server made an unpleasant comment about having to turn the fryer back on. We thought we had misheard but were wrong. Timing of this was right at dinner time - so that was a laugh. 4:45 p.m.
My husband and I decided to leave the other guests in our party to eat elsewhere. The other four members in our party decided to stay to eat at the hotel bar. Scroll to "Nearby Activities" to read more ... needless to say, I didn't get anything more to eat than a 6 pc Chicken McNuggets after a 40-60 minute debacle, and my husband had nothing.
Upon returning to the hotel, my husband asked if he could place an order to eat with the same staff member (around 5:30 p.m).
Him: Is the Kitchen still open?
Her: Like what?
Him: Like is the fryer still running?
Her: Why?
Him: Because I would like to order some food
Her: You should have placed an order earlier when everyone else ordered.
She wouldn't serve him.
WHAT IN THE WORLD???
Over the next 2 hours, multiple other travellers were dissuaded from staying/ eating at the bar by this same staff member. Another traveller asked to order food around 7:00 p.m. and was told that kitchen was closed. I couldn't help but watch her interactions - it was like a bad car accident. You couldn't look away.
After our travelling companions (party of 4) went to pay their bill, again with the same foul server. They were handed the receipt/slip with the amount owing, not the itemized receipt. This didn't seem out of the ordinary. When they were finished paying, they were handed the itemized receipt to sign they saw the line to add a tip. They then completed a second transaction to leave a tip. Afterwards, they then noticed that they had already been charged $18.96 on the itemized bill unknowingly. Shady. When they asked about this, the server explained that half the money went to the hotel. And that any bills/orders over $100 had the 20% added automatically.
NEVER HAVE I EVER ...
Hotel "store" - Prices were scandalous! No vending machines on site.
The Meh: Check in was fine. The gentleman working was helpful and efficient enough. Hotel is close to the airport and does have an airport shuttle. We did enquire if we needed to make reservations for the shuttle and were told it wasn't necessary. During this conversation, the front desk did neglect to tell us that the airport shuttle would run every 30 minutes from the hotel back to the airport. So just keep that in mind if you are planning wake up times. It wasn't a problem for us, but we know it might be for some travellers.
Hotel lobby was as expected for the property, clean enough.
The room was as expected again for the price and property. There were little bits here and there that were missed; it wasn't sparkly clean, but it was acceptable.
The hot water was an issue, and took about 10 minutes to get going to a reasonable temperature. After reading other reviews, we realized this might be the norm for this property, so didn't sweat it. It was much quicker to heat up for us in...
