Perfect boutique waterside escape!
I spent the weekend at Vineyard Square— and wow, what an idyllic experience! I had high expectations of both the town and the hotel itself, and all were exceeded.
The hotel:
We stayed in a king room in the hotel, and we had absolutely everything we needed. Immediately I fell in love with the soap, which comes in dispensers (so much better for the environment!) and which smells/felt like vacation. If there has been a gift shop, I would have purchased 5-10 bottles of the stuff to take home. Through the windows in our room we could see the water, and there is pretty much nothing better than that!
We also enjoyed all of the amenities, including being able to borrow beach chairs, towels, and bikes. It was so stress free to have everything we needed for recreation, and to be able to drop sandy damp towels off without a care in the world after a couple hours on the beach. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we felt very taken care of.
Finally, let’s talk about breakfast. WOW. I knew breakfast was included, but I expected something fairly ordinary (eggs, bacon, maybe a few bagels and muffins). What I found was a beautiful brunch where each thing tasted better than the last. The highlights for me included fresh brewed coffee from Dave’s (a Rhode Island classic), the ham and cheese croissants, and the Mexican street corn breakfast toast. Okay, this toast— I will be dreaming about it for weeks. I’ve never had anything just like it. It was fresh and savory and just the right hint of spice. I’ve attached a photo, but honestly you just have to try it. I’d love a postcard with this recipe to take with me as a souvenir!
The town/location:
We were right in the middle of everything— directly off of the Main Street with tons of shopping and food, and a block off of the harbor with water views. We were also a very easy walk from beautiful Lighthouse Beach, which felt really calm and secluded, even for being a town beach! We enjoyed a spectacular dinner at a restaurant directly behind the hotel called Detante. Next time I’d love to take advantage of all the great shopping in town— but the weather was way too nice to stay indoors this weekend!
All in all, I loved my stay, and I can’t wait to go back. Seriously, you will feel like you are escaping into a delicious beach read. Try it, and don’t forget to try the Mexican...
Read moreMy experience at this hotel was TERRIBLE! After my husband and I checked in to the hotel, that we were told when making the reservation was pet friendly, we were treated so disrespectfully by the manager (a dark haired mid thirties man). We checked in, got settled in our room and set out to take our two, three pound tea cup Yorkies for a walk. Apparently when one of the hotel workers saw one of the dogs, she bolted downstairs to tell the manager who quickly came upstairs and proceeded to speak to us in an unbelievably disrespectful tone. After my husband explained to him that during the reservation process we Were told that the hotel was pet friendly, he continued to be rude and told us we could not stay at the hotel. (Considering this hotel actually turned out to be a PET FRIENDLY hotel, I was shocked that the manager was behaving as if we had wild boars in the hotel and still can't understand why he was so rude... I can only imagine) I immediately began pulling the suitcases out of the room. The Manager continued to be rude as we were attempting to check out of the hotel, when I told him to stop speaking to me in a rude manner, he picked up the phone almost it in an attempt to intimidate me by threatening to call the police, which I believed was because I am an Black woman. When my husband asked for the deposit that was made to be returned (which was a pretty hefty amount for a deposit) it wasn't until that point that he hung up the phone and started trying to come up with a way to accommodate us. Because there were no other hotels available during that time, my husband asked me if I would be OK with staying, VERY RELUCTANT, but without any other options, I agreed. For the remaining time that I was there in the hotel, all of the staff members at the front desk were rude to me and never spoke to me for the rest of my stay. The staff appeared to be a group of uneducated, sickly in appearance, poorly dressed individuals, with bad attitudes. The rooms are poorly decorated, the staff was not dependable, there were days that we had to request cleaning service and towels multiple times. No elevator, poor continental breakfast service, NO in house movie system (on demand), needs to be renovated and updated. Poor front desk...
Read moreWe recently returned from a trip to Edgartown, MA where we stayed at the Vineyard Square Hotel & Suites. This is by far our favorite hotel on the island and our stay was outstanding in every way! First of all, we had a harbor-view suite which was amazing and had a huge terrace with a perfect view of Edgartown Harbor. It also had an exceptionally comfortable bed and a kitchenette and was the absolute best accomodations we could hope for. And might I say, the location of the hotel is PERFECT: Right in the heart of town with walking distance to great art galleries, restaurants, shops- and of course- the harbor. The staff at Vineyard Square is without a doubt the most top-notch and professional staff I could hope to have at a hotel. From the moment we walked in to check in, we were greeted with a warm and wonderful welcome and all throughout our stay, we were treated like friends and family. The hotel has bikes and beach towels and great amenities. But by far, the most outstanding is the amazing breakfast: An unbelievable assortment of pastries, quiches, overnight oats and many, many other delights. It is fabulous- and of such quality, it is hard to believe that it is included with the stay. A special shout-out to Sammi who always makes our stay special and has on many occasions, gone the 'extra mile' to help me with reservations as my work schedule makes it very challenging to coordinate my vacation. There is no problem she cannot solve and no request too great. Sammi and the rest of the staff make sure your stay is perfect from start to finish. Could I go on? Of course!!! But needless to say, it is rare - especially these days- to have a perfect experience while staying at a hotel- but the Vineyard Square Hotel and...
