Absolutely amazing restaurant! First off the service is the absolute best. We came here this past Tues for dinner. We had made a reservation online for indoor seating. Unfortunately there was a wait and we had to wait about 1hr to get a table. The hostess was very apologetic in having us wait but made us comfortable at the bar being it was a very chilly night. At the bar, the gentleman working was very nice. He had great recommendations for food and drinks and was over all very friendly. When we did get our table our food came pretty quickly. For starters we ordered the pork bolognese as well as the Spanish octopus. Both dishes were well prepared and tasted great. You won't be disappointed. For dinner we had the roasted halibut as well as the lamb rack. Again nothing short of amazing. The lamb was cooked perfectly and was so tender. Our server also threw in 2 additional sides because of the long wait time which we greatly appreciated. The service here is outstanding and they do care greatly for their patrons. Be sure to check them out if you are out in martha's vineyard!

Probably my favorite restaurant on the entire island, we've been going to Detente for years now and their consistency and creativity is incredible! And I like to remind people - it's not just for fancy date nights and birthdays, it's really an any night kind of place. Sit at the bar and have a cocktail/mocktail and a dessert kind of place; grab a table outdoors and have a full feast kind of place. The staff is incredibly welcoming - it's also a place you don't have to be dressed up to dine at, they are so welcoming like I said. The food, created in one of the smallest kitchens I've ever seen, is the stuff dreams are made of. No joke, from the freshly baked potato bread and ricotta spread with local sea salt, to the fried cornbread starter to the salmon entree and the panna cotta desserts, nothing disappoints. It's elevated food that's not to "prissy", it's food that has so much flavor and color that it makes you happy when it comes to the table. 1000% recommend Detente when you're on Martha's Vineyard. It's a hidden gem in Edgartown and a must eat when in town!

Détente Restaurant was one of the places recommended by the Inn we were staying at. While walking around town, we found this restaurant hidden on a quiet street, Winter St. We made reservations for that night. Indoor and outdoor seating are available. For those that wished to eat outdoors, they had a canopy/ canvas covering to keep the rain out as the weather was a little inclement the week we visited the island. We opted for indoor dining. Lots of Wine options, only 4 drink cocktails and various beer options are available. We had a scallop appetizer followed by the main meal, Pork Chop for my husband and Crusted Cod fish for me. Both were excellent and the flavors, seasonings, and sauces were superb. This was one of the only restaurants on this island that served coffee which my husband appreciated. For dessert, we shared the chocolate torte that came with cherries and ice cream. Servers all wore masks. Excellent service by Miona. Nice quiet restaurant. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Unfortunately, we had quite the unpleasant experience at Detente this evening. Seeking a fine dining option in MV to celebrate my MILs birthday, we chose Detente after reviewing their menu online. At the time of booking through OpenTable, we were informed there would be a $25 pp + tax cancellation fee imposed by the restaurant should we cancel, so we made sure we found food items on the menu posted online to ensure this was something we wanted to eat. The only time available online was 5:30, which is when they opened, and they sat us at an outdoor table despite us requesting indoor. We were informed by the front desk that the restaurant was “fully booked”, and our request for indoor seating couldn’t be accommodated since they pre-select tables for the registered guests. The restaurant remained more than half empty the entire time we were there, and the menu posted on their website was not what was offered at the restaurant. When I asked our server the reason for this, the server stated the online menu was “outdated”- not helpful for us being out of town and relying on the published menu to make our reservation. We found other items on the limited options offered, and my husband ordered a ribeye cooked medium-rare. The first steak was brought to the table well-done, so we sent it back. The second time the steak came it was cooked to medium temperature, so we requested the manager to come to our table. Susanna came and stated that to her, the steak was fine, and when I explained the misprinted online menu and request for inside service, she stated that the context I gave was “a lot to unpack”. She was extremely unprofessional, but did offer to remove the steak from our bill. I would not recommend this restaurant to those familiar with and expecting a fine dining experience. Drinks- mediocre, lobster risotto- overcooked, cod- decent. Seek...
