I own a specialty store with 35 employees and a 32,000 square foot building. Portobello Road is my favorite store in the world. I visit every time I am on the island. It begins with the music being played in the store. Not radio, or random songs, but really good music with a great deal of thought behind every song. And thought behind the selection of books, signs, toys, gifts, art, music. The actual selection is not the point. They are not connected by a subject or a category. They are connected by a point of view. I can feel the thought behind every decision to place every item on the shelf. And it all works with the feeling behind the layout, and,,, the music!
