The Black Dog General Store - Edgartown — Local services in Edgartown

We are fans of The Black Dog companies and we are on a much-needed vacation here at Martha's Vineyard. We recognize that the pandemic has been rough on everyone's social interactions but we had an odd experience here which made us sour on the retail spot. We were asked three times if we needed assistance finding anything which is fabulous! They care about their customers obviously. The last employee to ask us was quite snarky with us and we ended up leaving and not purchasing anything. We had been in the store for about 15 - 20 minutes just browsing and shopping for our dog who is sensitive to a lot of sizes as materials of retail items so we oftentimes have to take our time reading sizes and ingredients in materials (he has sensitive skin and some past traumas - is afraid of plastic bags and crinkly material), and the employee asked us if we needed help. We replied, as any customer would, "No, we are just looking/browsing" and she snapped "I know you're looking! I've seen you in here going back and forth for awhile!" as if we have to stick to a time table to leisurely shop on our vacation. Not appreciated, considering my fiancée and I both deal with social anxiety and were trying to support the business. We ended up leaving with nothing for our dog or a souvenir for ourselves and went shopping elsewhere. Well made, heavy sweatshirts. We've bought many for ourselves, family and friends. On this last trip we purchased 4 sweatshirts and a coffee mug. All high quality merchandise. The only thing I found disappointing was seeing the "Made in China" stamp under the price sticker as I removed it to wash. I'd like to see more "Made in America" stamps on their...
