I had a great experience in this Hilton hotel location. I had stayed here for 18 nights and left a detailed review for those who are wondering and planning to stay here.
The rooms were very clean. Cleaning service is every day but you can deny if you’d like to, however if you are not in the room they’ll clean it which is very convenient. There is a TV (I think it was about 45 inches) in the room and a lot of channels, and most of them are broadcasting movies. No roof lights except in the entrance of the room, however there are a lot of table lamps which lights up the room quite bright. The room also features an office desk and a comfortable & clean bed.
In the lobby, there are two microwaves; one located near the brew where the water refilling station is, and the other one is in the 24 hour mini market that would be on your left when you enter the hotel lobby from the main entrance. Two water refilling stations, one in the lobby and the middle/mezzanine floor and it’s quite useful. There are also plastic utensils and cups too. There is a breakfast buffet named The Newarker open in specific hours on the morning, usually closes from 11 AM to 12 PM depending on the day of the week. And there is a restaurant named Amelia’s Bar and Lounge, which I also had a great experience in. The waiters were polite and very helpful, and the food was scrumptious. I also tried the Brownie Sundae dessert and it was also extremely high quality. They close at 11:30 PM.
The location of the hotel is also really good. It’s located across the highway to EWR/Newark International Airport. You can walk for about 20-25 minutes to visit Stop & Shop, a supermarket which is similar to Safeway or Walmart (if you are familiar with them). You can also walk for about 30 minutes to reach North Elizabeth Train Station, to take the train to other cities, including New York City Penn Station. I had been going to a nearby laundromat for a walking time of 20 minutes, however I noticed there is already a laundry machine in the fitness center in the mezzanine. Plus it’s very cheap. 1.5 dollars for washing for 27 minutes and another 1.5 dollars for 45 minutes in the dryer. Very convenient and useful, therefore in case you didn’t know or did the same mistake as mine to go to nearby laundromats outside, there is a washer and dryer in the wellness center inside the gym for quite cheap. Lastly, you can also reach North Avenue and Van Buren Avenue bus station after walking for about 25 minutes, which can go south in New Jersey or north to New York City. And last of the last, there is a park named Kellogg Park which is not that far away either, which is also a serene and small park.
About safety, you would need your hotel key to use the elevator to go to the floors where the rooms are, a great addition to the overall security and safety of guests. However, in the lobby, I’m not exactly sure if it could be 100% safe. I had encountered one person who entered the lobby while I was in the lobby at night and explained how they were in a situation where they didn’t know they would pay some made up fee and wanted me to lend them money, which was suspicious so I made up some excuse back which worked and they left the lobby. It could be useful if there was a night shift security guard.
The lobby had also Christmas decorations and trees with colorful ornaments since I stayed through Christmas and New Year’s. The fitness center was great, it had many treadmills and workout machines with smart screens.

Hotel is clean and brightly lit. The rooms were decorated with very high-end furniture, however, some of it needs touchups and is appearing a bit dated. Big flatscreen TV. Adequate USB plugs. Wonderful iron and ironing board. Great in room refrigerator. The coffee maker is the old single/ double cup brew with the small pouches. If you like your coffee strong, put one in the brewer tray, and put a second one in the cup. One of the things I like the most about this hotel is that the bathroom switch and the hallway switch both have LED lights when they’re in the off position that can guide you as a nightlight, without necessarily turning the lights on and resetting your circadian rhythms. Beds are super comfortable with embroidered pillows that look like Italian Frette linens. From my chair in the room, I had a view of the control tower at EWR, which made for a relaxing sunset view. Shower is the standard Hilton showerhead with dispensers for the amenities in the shower and on the counter. The Bergamot scent is mild. There’s a filtered water dispenser to the left of the lobby coffee shop, which is great for refilling your bottles and saving the environment. The coffee shop itself when closed offers a Starbucks machine, which is activated by credit card tap. The lobby lounge/restaurant Amelia’s, serves a variety of comfort foods. They grow their own basil and make their own honey on the roof! A colleague had their hamburger and said it was one of the best he’d ever tasted. I ordered the margarita pizza and it was generous with the cheese, the crust was airy and crispy. The side salad that I had with blue cheese dressing was also very generous on the greens with a beautiful presentation of cucumbers and cherry tomatoes. The server was very attentive without being intrusive, and was right on time and offering a refill of the delicious California red wine that I had, and proposing the dessert menu when I had finished eating. I didn’t get a chance for breakfast since I had an early flight, but I expect the quality and service to be on point. Prices are surprisingly reasonable for an airport hotel. The nearest independent outlet would be Lounge NJ about 1/2 mile down towards the Crowne Plaza, or one of the bakeries or coffee shops in...
Read moreThe lobby was beautiful but it simply fostered false expectations of competence. My stay here was mediocre, to say the least. The small road to get in was very dilapidated. It's not our fault the city can't maintain its roads, but it's still their problem, and we had to endure it. Upon entering there was a chemical smell in the air, which was such a shame as the building itself was nice. The USB ports that were provided seemed to be very old but that can be attributed to wear and tear. The amenities were lacking. I could accept all of this and maybe give them a 3.5/5 but their Do Not Disturb process/policy is egregious.
My family and I put the DND sign up right away, and what happens? House keeping later barged in without knocking before opening the door - my spouse ran to the door to stop her & after giving them towels said housekeeper motioned towards the phone with a limited explanation of "needing to change the status". My spouse told her no & not to come in several times. This did not stop her from pushing past my partner into the room while I was completely undressed and my underage child was in their underwear. This was not only a complete invasion of privacy it was a lack of respect and human decency.
I called the front desk and they said while she should've knocked it is policy to change the status from our room phone. Even after we explained our family was in a state of undress. Why on Earth would the housekeeper still be required to enter a room that says DND? Why would she barge into the room after we said NO? What kind of policy requires her to enter the room of naked guests?
I give Hilton Newark a -1000 & I would never stay at this location again.
I kindly request that the management of Hilton Newark address the issues I've raised during my stay and consider appropriate compensation or resolution. This was beyond...
