Potential BED BUG follow up. 5-9-25 Room 7. I am displeased at the response and the downplaying from the owner, which I can only assume came from “Mike” the employee who claimed to be there for 32years. Jacey is a very sweet young woman and a Colorado native. She completely supports local business in this state and her review of Hand Hotel seemed very sweet and generous given what happened. However this is not feelings enforcement and this absolutely was not a “Buggy” experience. This is about failures and incompetence on several levels. Starting with “Mikes” downplaying. I WAS THERE. I responded to Jacey’s call in the middle of the night saying she had multiple “bug bites” all over her body. When I got there approx 1am. I found what looked like to me 3 bed bugs within 5 minutes. I crushed 2 of 3 in a tissue with what appeared to be blood. The 3rd one being out of reach. I Helped her gather all of her belongings in the middle of the night and took her to another hotel. Mixing her bags with mine. I’ve watched her arm and hand become swollen over the following days. I’ve had to quarantine my work equipment and personal belongings which are still sitting In a hot vehicle for the last week. As a business owner myself I find this response of “ We were not able to find any evidence of bugs” A sentiment of “Mike 32years”. I respect the history of the hotel and people that have been involved for that amount of time.(Mike) I do not want to come off as harsh and rude but again this isn’t about feelings this is about the FACTS. What Jacey left out in her review was the combativeness of Mike immediately down playing and gas lighting the situation. Sounding very similar to the owners response. Even with photo and video evidence “Mike” still kept saying “I don’t think that’s a bed bug” none of us are bug experts here However It’s been about decade the last time I dealt with Bed bugs but I never forget it. In my personal experience these were absolutely BedBugs. Ive uploaded photos. Maybe others can identify the bugs. If my Business had these type of failures, I would do everything i could to reach out to the customer and try to make it right as best as possible , knowing that no matter what I did to rectify the situation, the fallout will still be expected. That’s not what happened here. The only response from the owner was this review response which I find disingenuous. These reviews are for community awareness so others do not have to experience these situations. Ironically low reviews are very hard to find on here . It took me several attempts to even find Jacey’s review. People have the right to run their business however they like. If You want to dismiss Jacey’s account of the situation as some young girl whose exaggerating, That’s your right to do so. If you want to dismiss an eye witness account whose watched Jacey suffer physical swelling, pain and stress over 4 days after… that’s fine. Let’s see you dismiss Park County Health Department
Also…. The amount of dust on the fan was outrageous. It was hot in the room. The fan was needed but wow the fans need...
Read moreI’m writing to share my experience with this establishment in hopes it will be taken seriously and addressed appropriately.
Last night, I received a phone call from the receptionist shortly after 8:00 pm—The call was to ask if I was still planning to arrive for my reservation. I explained that unfortunately, I had an emergency arise and would not be able to check in. Rather than expressing any understanding or professionalism, the receptionist responded with, “Wow, I wish you would have called. Ok then, I guess have a good night,” followed by abruptly hanging up the phone. I didn’t even have time to respond or explain.
This was not only discourteous but frankly unacceptable. While I fully understand the reservation was non-refundable—I never attempted to dispute or recover my payment—the tone and attitude displayed were extremely unprofessional. Emergencies happen, and there are far more constructive ways to communicate than sounding irritated and dismissive to paying guests.
Additionally, the website states that check-in is available “at any time,” which makes this level of frustration about a late arrival all the more confusing. As someone who travels often and understands the challenges of running a small-town business, I still expect basic respect and courtesy, especially when I am forfeiting $180 without complaint.
I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and addresses this incident appropriately. Staff attitude reflects directly on the business, and this experience did not leave a...
Read moreWhat an enchanting stay in a town full of history. The friendliest staff, guests, and furry friends around who are always willing to help or answer questions. The rear deck on the back side of the 2nd floor was peace personified and the perfect place to unwind with coffee while the sun sets. We watched a beaver family in the river in the evening along with fishermen. It was the perfect spot to just sit and be. We stayed in room 5 and it was more than we expected. Clean doesn’t even begin to describe the space. I LOVE the artisan locally made bar soap in the bathroom and it makes your stay even more local. The bed was comfortable, an extra blanket was in the closet for cool nights, the keurig was well stocked with supplies for all of your hot beverage needs, the bathroom was roomy, the shower was huge and hot, and the windows open for fresh air. You can’t beat the breakfast either. Fresh squeezed juice, assorted fresh cut fruit, a home cooked hot dish that changed daily, delicious coffee, pastries, and more served in a gorgeous sun room. It was such a peaceful way to begin our day. The gift shop must be explored also. I am not usually a sucker for gift shops, but they even got me with a hooded sweatshirt that is long enough to be down to my calves and perfect for chilly nights on the back deck. We are hooked and will be back to stay any time we come back to FairPlay. Why stay at a big chain hotel when The Hand Hotel...
