Fairplay Beach — Attraction in Fairplay

We arrived at 9 am on a Friday and found plenty of parking next to the water. But wasn't the case later in the day. The four of us had a great day of fishing. The water was very weedy which was expected at this time of year. However, the stocker rainbows were hungry and we had our limit before noon. I noticed much needed improvements to the fishing pier, but was very disappointed with the poor quality and cleanliness of the vault toilets, Out of town visits do not stop after Labor Day. They looked like they haven't been cleaned or serviced since the 4th of July. For such a popular tourist attraction in the city of Fairplay I thought was an embarrassment to the community. Went mid day in the middle of the week; end of June. There were a few fly fishers, but the water was clear, 60s, windy— and the Mountain View’s!!! I took my recall trained 5yo doggo for a walk and a quick splash in the water. We stayed away from others; which wasn’t an issue as it’s a fairly large area with trails, multiple picnic tables, places to sit, some paved paths, and staircase access to the South Park/restaurants/shops area. The beach moniker is a bit confusing for an out-of-towner like myself, but the numerous pictures reveal its true nature. A simple parking area along the shore of the river, but those in-the-know park in Fairplay and walk over. A small bridge allows you to cross to the "beach" side, and walk a bit more along the water. Families wade into the stream at points, and the cool mountain water can be both refreshing and shocking, especially to...
