We decided to make a 4 day, 3 night trip to Ft. Lauderdale with the kids as a quick cheap getaway. As we were trying to do it on the cheap, we were not renting a car so we needed a place on the beach and within walking distance to restaurants, we found this place on Google maps and it seemed to fit the bill and the room rates were very reasonable.
So upon pulling up in the taxi, we were a little concerned. The place isn't much to look at from the outside, especially next to some other hotels in the area. The building looked a little tired from the front so we were a little concerned about what we would find inside.
Upon checking in, the gentleman at the front desk was very friendly, checked us into our room before normal check in time and explained what was nearby as well as the amenities they offered. The room was clean, not fancy by any stretch of the imagination, but we weren't there to spend the vacation in the room so for the price I think it was a very good value. There was a small deck that faced the pool of a neighboring hotel, and it was peaceful to relax there at night with a drink or two and enjoy the evening before bed. I probably would not want one of the rooms on the first floor by the pool however as you will have people on lounge chairs right outside your door unless you really want to be next to the pool.
Speaking of the pool, it was very nice. Not huge, but ranges from 4 to 8 feet deep and very clean with two small water fountain/water falls next to it. The number of lounge chairs on the pool deck is limited so you might want to get there early if you plan to spend time at the pool, but they do have a second floor sun deck with more lounge chairs that overlooks the pool and is easy access if you don't mind not being exactly poolside.
There is a small bar inside the lobby near the pool that serves food and drinks and is reasonably priced. They had a decent selection of drinks and food, their pizza was surprisingly good and of course the kids liked the mozzarella sticks. The same area has the breakfast buffet in the morning until 10am. They have the typical fare as far as waffles, cereal and pastries but also had a hot buffet of eggs, turkey sausage, potatoes, bacon and other types of sausage that seemed to be rotated daily. We were not disappointed.
The staff was great and very helpful. You can rent 2 beach chairs and an umbrella from the front desk for $15 a day which was a good deal. Throughout the day there were people always walking around cleaning so even though the place is a little tired, it is clean.
The hotel is pretty much right at the beach, less than a 5 min walk and close to the tourist area on A1A along the beach where you can find many restaurants and seems as if it would have a decent night life (I wouldn't know since the kids weren't up for late nights). Plenty of food and bars in the area that are expensive because of where they are, but it's to be expected in a tourist area.
So to sum it all up, if you are looking for a good deal and a clean place to spend a few days that doesn't have to be 5 stars, I would definitely recommend this place. We were not disappointed and...
Read moreSo my boyfriend and I were celebrating our 3 year anniversary. I rented the room as a stay cation since everything else was recently destroyed by hurricane ian. This isn't my first negative experience with this hotel. The first was 2 years ago and the manager was very apologetic so I figured if I gave it enough time things might have been better. Not exactly. So, They let me check in early which I appreciated. And offer free late check out, also appreciated. I checked in decorated the hotel room and went to pick up my bf. Came back and we ate and went to lay down. Mind you until this point no one had gotten in the bed. I laid in the middle and felt like the center of the bed was sinking in. I said to my bf, something feels off about the bed. He told me that he would call down stairs and mention it. He spoke to Bernie the frost desk supervisor and he explained that he didn't want us to be blamed which was why we were mentioning it. Bernie said he'd make a note, but there wasn't really any other king suites. Which I had also been told earlier. Anyway around 10:30 we fell asleep. Almost exactly an hour later there was a harsh clunk and then a second clunk as the whole bed collapsed to the ground, hitting my head on the wall. My bf and I were both shocked. I went down and was met by a totally different person who was very sympathetic and switched us to a king suite and told us we wouldn't be charged. I then had to take a maintenance man upstairs to show him what was wrong despite having had photos to show. Then we moved rooms at nearly midnight. At 8 a.m. we were awakened by a cleaning person banging on the door over and over asking us why we were in that room it was supposed to be vacant. We explained and she left saying the front desk didnt communicate anything. But no apology for waking us up.11 a.m. I go to check out. I am talking to a young lady who is in training I tell her we were.to be receiving a refund. She says I'd have to wait on the supervisor. A few minutes later Bernie the same supervisor we reported the broken bed too from last night appears . He tells me that I'll have to wait a few days for someone to.follow up with me regarding a refund. I told him I didn't trust him because there appeared to a lack of communication. After some back and forth I left and called priceline. They called the hotel and were.told they had to wait as well. About 2 hours later Bernie called me and told me that they had approved the refund. It ended okay but 2 strikes you're out....
Read moreIt was our first time in Florida and staying at Best Western. We stayed a total of 5 nights. We loved the location. We had no issues with the appearance of the hotel. The room was clean and comfy. The pool area was really nice and relaxing and we loved the sun deck. The location is ideal for being on the beach. While it's not directly on the beach, the beach is literally a 2 mins walk behind the hotel. We felt at home at the hotel. Breakfast was really nice and had a variety. They also have an in house cafe that has great food and is fairly affordable. It was really convenient as well for looking at 4th of July fireworks.
Customer service there, however, needs a bit of work. Some workers are really helpful and pleasant, others not so much. We drove from VA to Florida, a 14 hour drive with 2 children and an elderly. We ended up reaching 1 day earlier and decided to stay an extra night. Upon arrival, there was a guest talking to the front desk personnel. He kept going on and on and we were standing there waiting to be acknowledged and checked-in. The young girl at the front desk kept chatting away with the guy and didn't stop him to check us in. Imagine driving over 2 days, 14 hours, tired, and having to wait 3 minutes to be checked in due to chit chatting. It wasn't until I got fedup and eased up forward, that the guest allowed us to move forward and check in. The young lady at the front desk never stopped him so she could check us in. Furthermore, she kept looking at the wrong reservation and telling us something completely different from what we reserved, even though I showed her my reservations on my phone and gave her my i.d, so she can see my name. After telling us a bunch of stuff were complimentary, she had to revert her statement because she was looking at the wrong reservation. While mistakes happen and we completely understand (we weren't here for anything free), we felt that the courtesy we received when she messed up was completely different the next day. Moreover, we had one of the room attendants open our room door and come in without knocking because we stayed an extra night and she didn't realize we were still in the room. Thank goodness no one was changing, or she would have opened the door right on us. After the 3rd night, we did have to switch rooms because the air condition was leaking in our room. They gave us a free upgrade so, thank...
