Liked · The location. I had the Best Western Oceanside confirmed then changed to this property due to the location. We were attending the air show on 09May and wanted a property that was within walking distance. Disliked · Everything except the location. The staff was incompetent from the moment we tried to check in early. We were told if we downgraded our king bed room to a queen bed room for the same price, we could check in early. Then after the check in process was completed which took longer than any hotel I've ever been to, we were told the room wasn't ready. We also asked for a first responder (my boyfriend is a retired firefighter) or military (we are both veterans) discount and were told no, meanwhile, when I called the hotel earlier in the week, I was told they do offer a military discount and to ask at check in. We wanted to use the restroom before we left and were directed to a lobby bathroom that barely had space to accommodate a person, was dirty and had no paper towels. We were given the keys in the afternoon and it was a queen room next to the office. It was clean, but there was no remote for the tv. I then had to go back into the office to ask for a remote and the office staff said every time the rooms are cleaned hair dryers and tv remotes are missing, but she would bring me a remote. We were in the room for a little over a hour and nobody brought a tv remote. It also appeared that locals were using the pool area (which was right outside of our room) for family barbecues which made us wonder how loud it would be late at night and if there was a curfew. I then received a phone call about a family emergency, returned the keys to the front desk letting them know and left. I didn't bother asking for a refund, partial or full because all transactions with the check in staff were so time consuming and I was in no mood after hearing bad news. I was in the airline business for over 20 years, have traveled everywhere in the world including developing countries and have never experienced so much incompetency especially in the US and in my own state just two counties away from where I live. It's unacceptable and very incompetent staff. Worst hotel experience, I'm well traveled and...
Read moreHighly recommended for numerous reasons! This small hotel consists of 4 buildings, each with its own pool. Just a short 1 block walk to the Vistamar entrance to Fort Lauderdale Beach! The intersection of location, amenities and price made Tranquilo the best choice for a vacation in sunny Florida.
I loved the location because it's right at a juncture between stuff to do, and peace & quiet - if you walk north on A1A from the Vistamar beach entrance, you pass the Bonnet House, a small 2 block area of shopping and dining, then Birch state park. The beaches going north are very quiet and sparsely utilized, so you'll have plenty of room to set up your beach site for the day. If you walk south on A1A instead, there's block after block of fancy hotel restaurant/bars, shopping, ice cream parlors, beach rentals, nightlife and other socializing.
Fort Lauderdale beaches are safe and clean, and attract a mature crowd, not young party animals. It's a close drive to the hard rock casino, Hollywood Beach boardwalk and Margaritaville, not far from the water taxi stop, close to a scooter/slingshot rental place, and as mentioned right by the Bonnet House and state park. For the price, this was the perfect location to spend time enjoying everything a beach community has to offer.
Finally, specifics on the hotel - we had a studio suite with king size bed, upholstered chair and benches, full bath, small desk, 2 dressers, big TV, a closet rack with wood hangers, and a kitchenette with 2 seat table, 2 burner stove, sink, combo microwave/small oven, and full size refrigerator. The housekeepers are wonderful and visit daily. The front desk attendant Johanna is delightful, truly an angel, and can provide coupons and promos for local businesses and restaurants to get you started exploring the area. The pools were clean and well maintained, never crowded or noisy. The hotel accepts service animals and is very accommodating in this regard to guests with disabilities. There is a wheelchair ramp and wheelchair accessible first floor rooms. Free wifi was fast and strong for my basic needs.
I have zero complaints and would love to...
Read moreWe had an absolutely fabulous experience at this resort! We visited in January so it was quiet- almost to the point of feeling deserted- but it meant we got to enjoy the resort grounds almost all to ourselves. I wouldn’t hesitate to book a room at any of the North Beach Village Resort hotels as they all include access to the facilities at all the other hotels (their website has a comprehensive list of about 10). We enjoyed one of the Tranquilo pools but especially enjoyed the pools at the North Beach Hotel which has a variety of hot tubs and swimming pools. The Royal Palms has a swimming pool that was fabulously warm, with the comfiest lounge chairs you could imagine.
The Wine Garden restaurant down the road had great food and a terrific happy hour, and the location of the Tranquilo simply couldn’t be beat with access to more beach, entertainment and dining options than one could ever hope to visit in a single trip. The staff were extremely pleasant and allowed us to use the facilities after checkout due to a delayed flight back to the frozen tundra we call home. The only things that could have made this a 6 star property were that the water took about 3-4 minutes to get warm enough to shower in, and I was confused by the TV as I’d hoped I could either use AirPlay or sign into my various streaming accounts but the only thing available was ‘Pluto TV’ which isn’t a thing in Canada so we couldn’t figure it out. The wifi was fast enough to stream on my laptop so we just didn’t use the TV.
Cheers to a great staff and stay, we won’t hesitate...
