Tropirock used to be our "go-to" place in Fort Lauderdale for years. Sadly, it's time to find a new place after all these years. Rooms are in bad shape and seriously need updating. This review would have normally received 1-star, but because the morning front desk girl, Dawn, was so nice and understanding regarding our disappointment that it deserved a bump up to 2-stars.||||To begin, let me start off by giving you the pluses. It is located only one block from the beach. It's a quiet area. The beds were comfortable. Air conditioning worked well. And as stated before, Dawn, the front desk girl, was very friendly. Those are really the only good things about the hotel. ||||Onto the bad... the sheets on our bed did look clean, but one of our pillow cases was a dingy yellow due to water stains. That was gross! Look at my pics and you'll see. Luckily, there were 4 pillows on each bed, so the lack of one pillow really wasn't an issue. Everything in the room had nicks and stains. In my pics you'll see the shower curtain splattered from a poor paint job making that look dirty. Dresser had scratches all over the top. Paint chipping and peeling away in the room. Kitchen was old and dated, but everything worked fine. Hot water knob in the shower was stripped. In order to turn the hot water on you had to push the knob inward for it to turn. Otherwise, the knob would just spin. Batteries to keep the safe functioning properly were held in place with duct tape. The cover was missing and that was their solution to the problem. After putting our valuables inside and locking it up, the batteries must have came loose making the safe unfunctional. There was literally no way to get into the safe. Just as we were ready to leave for our dinner reservations, we went to take our money and valuables out of the safe. Low and behold, that's when we ran into problems. We couldn't get into the safe. There was no phone number left in the room to call for assistance and the front desk was closed. Luckily, they did leave a number outside the office to call for emergencies. A lady with a Spanish accent picked up the phone and we explained to her the problem. She said she would send someone over. After waiting 25 minutes, maintenance still hadn't shown up. Our dinner reservations were at 7 and it was now 7:15. So, we called the number again. The same lady picked up and we told her nobody had shown up yet and that we were now late for our dinner reservations. That's when the lady started giving us an attitude problem as if "we" were inconveniencing her. She was not nice. Instead, rather rude. That was the final straw. We could have lived with the imperfections in the room, but we were paying customers in need of assistance. There was no need to be disrespectful to us. 45 minutes later the maintenance guy showed up. He was very nice, but after looking at our safe he said it was one of the older ones and that it was impossible to unlock without power. We pleaded with him to try, to do the best he could. Our money, our driver's license, our credit cards, our valuables were all inside that safe. We needed them. After a few bangs here and there, some shaking, the batteries must have fallen back into place. That's when he was finally able to open it. Before he left, he advised us not to put our valuables in there and lock it again because next time we might not be so lucky. That was a scary moment for us. We then grabbed our belongings and ran to the restaurant we had reservations at. We were so late we lost our reservations and table. On top of it all, we had to pay a $75 fee because we never showed up on time. High demand restaurants add this policy to reservations made on OpenTable these days. We really were looking forward to a nice relaxing meal out, but ended up having to go to a noisy burger joint for dinner that night. Not at all what we had planned!||||The next day when we checked out, Dawn asked us how our stay was. We told her everything. She was very apologetic and understanding. She assured us that during our next visit things would be much better. Unfortunately, there won't be a next time for us. After the safe issue we vowed never to return. To be treated the way we were because of an issue that wasn't our fault was upsetting. Our one night in Fort Lauderdale was ruined.||||Would we recommend this place to others? There's a simple answer to that...

At checkout, I went into the office to request a receipt and overheard management — with their office door open — loudly complaining about my review. One person said, “She should’ve just waited for maintenance to fix it,” instead of taking responsibility for the guest experience.
Guests: Spend the extra couple bucks and stay somewhere else. Management: Close the door when talking about paying guests — our reservation totaled nearly $4,000.
————————— I recently stayed at this hotel for a week. While there are a number of positive aspects, several persistent issues unfortunately impacted the overall quality of the stay.
To start, the location is excellent — just a short walk to the beach and surrounded by many great restaurants. Parking is convenient and reasonably priced at $10 per day. The pool and outdoor grill area are nicely maintained, and the hotel has a pet-friendly policy with a few resident cats on the property, which added a bit of charm. The in-room kitchen appliances were in good working order, and daily housekeeping left fresh towels and toilet paper (though they did not enter the room for cleaning).
Staff members (Danny and Austin) were friendly and did their best to be helpful. You can tell that some of the staff genuinely try to create a good experience for guests, but it’s unclear if they’re given the tools or resources they need to succeed. Much of their time seems to be spent troubleshooting recurring issues rather than proactively supporting the guest experience.
Unfortunately, several of those recurring issues impacted our stay. The most notable was the lack of hot water for most of the trip, which was reported but never resolved. Our first room was extremely warm, even with the air conditioning running constantly. Days later, we discovered a missing windowpane, which explained this issue- and the entryway for ants. The front desk quickly moved us to a different room once informed, though the new room was smaller.
Laundry services were also a hassle. Guests must download an app and preload funds in order to use the machines — but the on-site machine was broken. After loading money onto the app, we were directed to a neighboring hotel, where the machines were working. The staff there provided a less-than-welcoming experience.
In summary, this hotel has a lot of potential: friendly team members, a great location, and some charming amenities. However, unresolved maintenance issues made the stay less comfortable than it could have been. With better support for the team and attention to infrastructure, this property could offer a much...
Read moreThis was a great place to stay, 1.5 blocks from the beach, just over from the street, the A1A. Within a block there is a food truck, juice/smoothie place, bakery and general store. And lots of other restaurants and stores within walking distance. It has a pool, which I never used but looked nice. The room I stayed in was exactly what I needed. I asked for other than first floor and they were able to oblige with the second floor, thank you very much. It had a nice little balcony which was lovely. Microwave, fridge, closet, dresser, bathroom with some amenities, fan and ac. It was clean and safe. Ice machine in the basement (I learned halfway through the time there) The ac was crazy loud but with ear plugs, it was fine and helped drown out the loud people at night. Unfortunately, not all people are not considerate and there were a lot of loud people drinking and smoking which made it annoying. Not the motels fault, but motels are open to the outside so you can hear all the yelling, kids screaming and partying. Plus, motel staff doesn’t stay on-site like hotels so people get away with more. People tend to meet up in the parking lots and are loud in the mornings. They also smoke right there under my window/balcony. Wish there was a way to have them stand somewhere else. Wifi worked well and they didn’t have cable TV, just roku, so use your accounts if you have them. Bed was decent and firm with clean sheets and light blanket. Black out curtains too. There are no chairs or beach blankets, you have to bring/buy your own. It’s a quick 20 min ride from the airport by car, about $18 ride by lyft/uber and there’s also public transportation. There are golf carts in the hotel area for $3/ride using the app, free area shuttle and buses. There is a $10 parking fee/day which can add up but I didn’t rent a car this trip. All the staff was pleasant and helpful. The cleaning staff was great and always asked if I needed anything or have extra towels. I had no real issues here and I would recommend it if you want an affordable place to stay near the beach. I enjoyed my...
