DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL (ZERO STARS!!!) I have never written a poor review in my life, but felt the need to spread awareness of how terrible this experience was. My group of 5 friends booked a trip to fort Lauderdale to stay at the Rolo for 6 days. Upon arrival, the facility looked great. However, check in did not go smoothly. The lady that greeted us was very rude and did not set us up with all of the information we needed regarding keys, laundry, cleaning, and appliances. The room we booked was 2 queen beds and a pullout couch, a typical booking for 5 people. We called a day ahead of check in to make sure the kitchen had appliances required for cooking and storing groceries. Initially, Chris the manager was helpful in assuring us we had a working kitchen, so we ordered $200 of groceries for the week.
On our second day at the hotel, the fridge stopped working as the breaker was broken. We asked the staff for help in fixing the issue so our groceries did not spoil. The problem was “fixed” for only a few hours before the fridge broke again. I’m addition to this, the burners on the stovetop also did not work. After having someone fix these issues for a second time, we explained how our food had been sitting in a warm fridge for an unsure amount of hours. The owner was very rude and told us we would not be compensated for any food spoilage. The next day our bathroom power went out along with the microwave breaking. We were unable to turn the lights on or cook any of our groceries that had not gone bad. When the manager came to fix the bathroom and microwave, he also had to pull the fridge from his corner into the middle of our kitchen in order to plug it in to a working outlet, leaving us minimal space.
We came back from the beach one day and the manager Chris overheard us talking about all of the terrible appliances, the rudeness of the staff, and how our room has not been cleaned once. He proceeded to open our door without being welcomed in to complain about how stressful his personal life is and placed condescending blame regarding hotel’s issues onto us because “we don’t know what it’s like to work a 9-5”. We did not ask for a lecture, we just wanted the service that was promised when we booked this hotel. Later on, the hotel owner also came into our room without being welcomed. This was a huge invasion of privacy, as we had two girls changing into bikinis who had to rush around the corner to avoid being seen.
Chris explained that the cleaning service was not like other hotels in that they were not cleaned everyday due to his short staff and inability to take care of customer needs. We asked him why this was not explained to us earlier, and he blamed his staff - many of which spoke no English and a few were brand new. We were told from him that a sign needed to be placed on the door to let the staff know the room needed to be cleaned. From that point on, towels were set outside of the door as asked, the cleaning sign was placed on our door each day. To our surprise, the room was not cleaned once in our 6 day stay, despite calling the front desk and even requesting a broom and cleaning supplies to take care of it ourselves. When booking a 6 day trip with a kitchen stocked with food, it’s normal to have trash and used towels. Chris proceeded to yell at us for how “messy” the room was, and blamed it on the fact that we were young girls who had no place booking a hotel for spring break. We found this very rude because it is his job to make sure the rooms...
Read moreWe and our friends stayed 1 night on January 31st before an early flight (2 rooms). PROS: Chris, the manager, was very nice. He allowed us to check in early. The rooms were recently renovated and in decent shape. The location is quiet and only a 5 minute walk to the beach. The pool was heated. The safe worked. CONS: I thought that there was no hot water in the bathroom because the hot/cold pipes were reversed going to the sink tap. The dresser drawers would not stay closed. One of the hand towels put in the clean set was dirty/stained. The bed is very firm/hard with no softness on top at all. The worst aspect was that the floor was filthy dirty. I checked my feet before going to bed to watch TV and my feet were dark brown. I washed them off and walked around a bit more. My feet were once again dark brown. I washed them off and then took the washcloth and started wiping the floors. I kept rinsing the cloth and trying to clean it with soap and ended up washing most of the floor. I really didn't want to be doing the housekeeper's job at 7:30 PM at night. I checked my husband's feet and they weren't as bad. Then I realized that he was wearing brand new white socks until shortly before going to bed. His socks were filthy from the short walking on the floor (after we came back from touring all day and going to dinner). I have attached pictures of one of the socks, the washcloth that I used to clean the floors, the dirty hand towel and the drawer that won't stay shut. Our friends' room had filthy dirty floors as well. I phoned down to speak to Chris about the issues before putting up this review, but the lady that answered said that Chris was off for an indeterminate amount of time. She said she would pass my comments along to the owner, but she didn't seem too bothered by...
