Great selection of books. They have coffee and baked goods however because they serve food here, dogs are not allowed inside the building.
There's turf and a good amount of seating outside with a stick library and ball basket for dogs to enjoy as well as pup cups. You can order online from outside with a QR code. It might get a little hot out there in the full sun but there is a gravity water bowl and a dog leveled fan to keep the dogs cool and quenched. There is an umbrella for shade. There's a small selection of used books to purchase out on the patio on carts labeled "dog eared". Some poop bags were hanging on the fence by the seating area too. The trash can is a step pedal one which I personally prefer although I didn't see any recycling if that's something you are conscious of. They will not fill your home-brought cups due to health regulations. They do sell ceramic mugs and glass tumblers with their branding too. The bags are canvas totes, you can get one free with any purchase over a certain amount. For smaller purchases don't worry, you still get a paper bag with the store seal. The coffee was pretty good. Your option of iced or hot and 3 types of milk, whole, almond and oat. Milk alternatives don't cost extra.
The dog theme through the shop is charming with doggy bookends, squeaky toys and dog collars for purchase, a dedicated selection of dog books. There is also a "blind date with a book" section that have the title hidden with a short overview of what the book is about with stickers and a bookmark. Fun thing to try if you like surprises. Quite a bit of seating inside as well, benches, single chairs of different sizes, a section for kids and additional meet-up space upstairs for hosting game nights or book clubs. Definitely kid friendly. Store merch included t-shirts of all sizes, hats, jewelry, hair clips, bags, as well as coffee beans you can brew at home.
Overall it's a nice book store I really enjoyed it and looking at the selection and I'll come here again but it is a bit of a bummer I can't look with my dog. It's only because of regulation around food which makes me wish the food was served from a food truck to allow pets inside but I also understand it's probably also to protect the new books as well. I didn't bring my dog this time but I did pick out some books to read and I would bring my pup next time to read on the patio and get her a pup cup. It's still a good place for socializing but keep in mind big dogs might not have too much space on the patio but they will be comfortable to lay down on the turf. Just be aware of the weather and if it's too hot. It was not too hot in the morning when I went, so the dogs I saw hanging out on the patio were happy and enjoying their pup cups. Just a heads up for the dark coated dogs that get hot quickly in the sun. Dog friendly dogs only. All dogs will be in close proximity of each other so it's not the best place for nervous or reactive dogs or any dogs with resource guarding habits. There's a high chance your dog will get abundant pets and attention from kids and adults alike. There's mention of future dog adoption events being hosted here as well. I heard you can ask for a selection of books be brought out to you if you are on the patio with your dog but if you want to go inside you might want to bring a friend or partner to take turns. There's not really anywhere to hold your dog if need be but the register is right in view of the entrance if you needed staff for any reason I'm sure they'd see you or hear you. The building is historical too and there's a description inside of what it used to be, nearby they have some local history books. Fun place to check out and hang out at as a 3rd space. Meeting rooms are available upstairs to book for events.
Pupdate: I've been coming here since opening day and theres always something new and exciting to see here. I still love the book selections and find new things to take home. I continue to recommend this place. It really is a great bookstore and it's become one of my favorite places to...
Read moreDog lover or not, you will love this well curated adorable bookstore. Located right off one of downtown Fredericksburg’s main streets, this store offers off-street parking, plus it is adjacent to a free public parking lot. In addition to books they sell coffee and baked goods. Upstairs are free gathering rooms that you can reserve for book club, game night, or any other meeting. Intent on building a community space, the owners provide an outside seating area especially for those with pets. Dogs are not allowed inside the store, but they can enjoy the bucket of tennis balls for some free playtime while their owner can use the mobile order app and have their purchase brought out to them.
I collect independent bookstore merch, and they have the...
Read moreWe booked the golden retriever study room to plan some summer fun and celebrate our friend's birthday. The themed study rooms are SOO cute and air-conditioned!! the doors/walls are also fairly sound proof. ADORABLE place, coffee and pastries are so cute and yummy (pictured is their s'mores latte that's only available in July 😛) I called ahead of time to ask if we could bring a cake in the study room, and the owner surprised us by putting a little happy birthday sign and a bunch of colorful leis on the table for us!! 1000/10 experience, definitely recommend!!! will definitely be coming back to hang out, study, and check out the bookstore part...
