We held a couples retreat in the Gatlinburg lodge for Valentine’s week. This cabin had so many issues that we identified during our stay. And the owner and rental company knows about them. I will drill down most in this review.
Initial walk in. The door is so dirty and faded that you can see the white or wood on the door. A simple coat of paint could easily fix. When we walked in and did an initial walk through EVERYTHING WAS BROKEN! Light fixtures all throughout the house was broken or not working, the stovetops are cracked and falling apart. They put some type of sealant on them as a temporary fix. But it’s badly damaged. Cabinets and wall decor missing throughout all kitchen areas. Stains all over dining room tables like someone spilled red paint on them.
As I continued to inspect the cabin, we found even more damage to individual rooms. Bathrooms missing vanity cabinet pieces, no blankets or bedding in rooms, dingy bed linens, and televisions that don’t work. The fireplace was broken and didn’t work in the main livingroom. The AC didn’t work at all but the heat did. The cabin was scorching hot all weekend. The pool table was busted on the side and so many other things damaged that I would spend a lifetime listing.
During our week long stay. We uncovered that the hot water did not work in a portion of the cabin. We called the maintenance company to report the issue. They assured us the a maintenance tech would come out to check. That never happened until we found out ourselves why the hot water issue was relevant. We had a darn water leak in the bathrooms on one side of the cabin. So water was leaking from room 9 down to room 1. When we reported this issue to Cabins of the Smokies. They eventually sent someone out to investigate the problem. As far as we know the leak issue was corrected.
If you are looking for the hot tubs to work. Forget it. I thoroughly inspected each hot tub with the inspector that comes out to check for serviceability and cleanliness. None of the hots tubs were fully functional. She said that the jets needs alignment and that the motors are bad, but the owner doesn’t want to fix them. So don’t plan on a hot bubbly evening in the jacuzzi.
Sad part is the inspector from the rental company (Cabins of the Smokies) outright told me during the walkthrough that they had a fraternity stay in the property before us and the ownership doesn’t care if things are damaged nor does the ownership want to fix or replace anything. They also stated that the owners were just recently staying in the cabin and identified many of the same issues.
So, please know that if you are planning on renting the Gatlinburg Lodge from Cabins of the Smokies, be prepared for damages, lackluster service and maybe some surprises during your stay.
I gave two stars because the outdoor fire pit did work.
Word to the wise. Stay away from this property and Cabins of the Smokies Rentals. Find other cabin rental companies with a better reputation. You pay too much money for a...

This was my first time staying at this cabin, and unfortunately, we encountered several issues that made the experience less than ideal. Upon arrival, we discovered that one of the bedrooms was locked from the inside, and two of the upstairs rooms had not been cleaned. There was candy on the floor, unvacuumed carpets, a tied-up trash bag left out, and unmade beds.
I contacted the management team immediately and was told someone would come by to resolve the issues. However, no one arrived that evening. When I called again later that night, I was told it wasn’t considered an emergency but would be treated as urgent. The next morning, after a third call, two people finally arrived around 11 AM with only a rag and spray bottle. They were at the cabin for about five minutes and claimed the rooms were cleaned—but upon checking, it was clear nothing had been done. I followed up once more to report this and request help unlocking the bedroom door. After continued delays, we ended up unlocking it ourselves and canceled the service request due to the lack of response.
it was frustrating to be short three usable bedrooms during our first full night.
Additionally, before the trip, I confirmed with the rental company that there would be enough plateware and utensils for 20 guests, as we had hired a chef for one evening. Despite this assurance, the cabin had only about seven forks and few plates. While we managed to work around it, it seems like a basic and easy fix to ensure the kitchen is adequately stocked—especially for a property that can host 50+ guests.
To end on a positive note: the cabin itself is in a great location and has a lot of potential. It ultimately worked for what we needed, but there's definitely significant room for improvement—particularly in customer service and...
Read moreMy family and I stayed at the Gatlinburg Lodge January 1-5. The cabin is very spacious and good for a big family. The furniture was in very bad condition, the couch downstairs was leaning and in bad condition, the chair in the game room upstairs was busted and torn, one of the refrigerators was missing the entire bottom, one of the showers were clogged, most of the beds were very uncomfortable and squeaky, the breaker kept going out, had to keep turning it back on, most TVs did not work and most remotes had batteries missing and the backs from the remotes were missing as well, the cabin also could have been much cleaner. Usually my family and I take annual cabin Trips in Oklahoma, Broken Bow Luxury Cabin for a much cheaper price and their cabins are excellent, and very clean. When a cabin is said to be worth 2.5 million dollars and the cost to stay there, I expected more. When we arrived the cabin reeked of marijuana. However we did get good customer service, whenever we called regarding an issue, they came right away and fixed what they could. Again, my family still had a good time and if the above issues can be taken care of, it would be...
