Ok. To be fair in this review, I am saying from the start that I will stay here again. My review is for others, as for me, I can deal with less than "exceptional".|The motel is very dated. There is no was around that fact. If you are going to be spending the majority of your time in the room, this might not be your best option. If you are using the room as a place to rest and recharge as you visit the strip, then you will be fine. |The biggest two advantages for this motel are the location and the price. The most reasonable pricing I have found for summer visits, especially for weekends. The location is great. |Actually, if you planning on visiting Anakeesta, this is the perfect location. It literally is a five-minute walk to the main entrance gates. If you prefer to visit the strip, start by walking towards Anakeesta, and about halfway down, you will see a sign with a small walkway that says “The Village”. Take this shortcut and not only does it put you in some of the neatest shopping attraction in Gatlinburg, it also allows you to bypass most of the foot traffic at the redlights and allows you to enter in and out of the main sidewalks on the strip. It is a great shortcut. | Back to the room, it is as others report, in need of some TLC and remodeling. On our visit the pool, which our room overlooked, was very unappealing. It was in need of serious maintenance. There was a smaller pool near the center of the complex that seemed more inviting. |The bathroom in our room was extremely small. I am talking about barely having enough room to get out of the shower and to dry off. But back when the motel was built, the concept was to put more focus on enlarging the living areas, and reduce the necessity areas to the smallest functional size. It is not a fault of the motel itself; it was all purposely designed that way. |I will also have to be fair and mention that hot water is a blessing when you do get it. A couple of showers were in lukewarm water, at the best. But it is manageable. |I did not enjoy the pillows, or the course feel of the towels and sheets, but then again, as the traveler’s moto goes: pay less and expect less. |One other plus, is that if you do your research, you can also bypass the main strip in Gatlinburg to get to the hotel. You can take a shortcut by Dollywood and come in the back way. This is a narrow, two-lane mountain road, but it saves time in traffic. |You can also take a shortcut at the first redlight as you begin to enter Gatlinburg. It winds you around a short trip to the upper end of the parkway, and then you can follow the GPS to the motel. |We never had to suffer the delays of trying to drive through the strip, and the continual foot traffic that ignores the walk / Don’t walk signs at the traffic lights. |So, to make the most of your stay, bring your own pillows, bring some Lysol, some room freshener and then get ready to explore Gatlinburg. |I know...
Read moreOn our first day of vacation we had been up since 9am the morning prior and drove all night after a musical gig we did. I had requested three weeks prior for early check in at 10am but was told I could not check in till room was clean. Totally understandable it was the weekend before the 4th and people were leaving. My family and I went to eat and returned in front of our room at noon and a very nice cleaning lady cleaned the room right away. I went to pay and the same older gentleman told me no you are not going in that room and that we could find another hotel. I said you told me when room was clean I could go in. I told him I would even pay for another day and he continued to yell at me and even came at me. I told him to stop and to stop being ruid that, that is not what you said or I would have not came in at the time I did. I turned to walk away and he ripped his hat off and I heard him walking behind me yelling and I said stop you are being very ruid. He again warned me to not go in the room cause it was not three. I guess they don't know the hospitality law nor do they realize this employee was threatening me and was acting in a hostile manner. He made me nervous and I wanted to leave but we had drove 6 hours and had this reservation for 6 months. We know how hard it is during this time of year to get a room a block from town. He then came walking past the room trying to intemidate us. I was so angry and worried I couldn't sleep. I finally got in my room at two once police were called. Then I had to call the police again at 1am cause my room was the only one without electricity. I just bought groceries for the fridge for a picnic. Once the police arrived they felt I should get a return of funds also for all I had been through. They were great and were surprised to see the envelopes on the door with the message to call a number that told you what to do with those envelopes (I will not reveal the message for other people's safety) but did record that message for my attorney. Also there is no contact number for emergency. Even the police had no other contact so after eleven your on your own. With all that another envelope hung on the door at 1am for a early check in for another customer. The hotel manager claimed they have cameras and would review the film but admitted she never did nor had time. I then contacted my attorney and sent him those pictures and he said I should get at least 50 percent of my money back but I only received one day return for all the trouble. I had been through a lot with being a cancer survivor and my son having back surgery recently. We were excited about this vacation cause we were close to downtown but this hotel hospitality almost ruined our week!!!! I will never be back to this hotel!!!! In the 14 years I have been coming here I have never been treated so bad that I was...
Read moreWhere do i begin? We got in from our long drive from ohio expecting the "great reviewed hotel" that we booked and man were we wrong. We pulled in and saw a green pool.... website said 2 pools and yes there were 2 but only one filled and looked radioactive. We check in to a lady who seemed rather rude. We got our keys and were directed to our room. We walk in and go to turn the light on and it doesn't work. Had to switch a bulb. The smell of the room was musty and felt very humid and moist in there. We then sat down to see what we were going to do as far as attractions. I started putting our stuff away and noticed the dresser was broke... started walking around to find the soap dish in the tub was broke, the light fixture broke, mold on ceiling, dirty floors, the shower head was so low my head hit and I'm 5'1" so my 6'2" boyfriend obviously was going to have problems. The toilet is something you see in an elementary school bathroom. Microwave and fridge were old and the microwave had food splattered on the inside. Fridge smelled musty. Dirt on couch, stains on couch pillows and then when you think it couldn't get any worse my boyfriend said "look how flat these pillows are" i saw them and said they are yellow!!!! I went to their "shelf" in the room with extra linens and pillows to find a stained yellow pillow! Pictures posted below. We went to the front desk and brought all these things up to her and she acted as if she was not surprised. Offered another room so we went and looked at another room and a little better but still gross! We said no thanks refund us we need to go elsewhere. She refunded us but first charged our card again before refunding it! So charged us double our cost then refunded knowing that we wouldn't have the money back asap. Luckily we aren't hard on money but if we were what would we have done?! We went and paid more at the Hilton garden. I absolutely do NOT recommend this. Save yourself the hassle of trying to find a new stay last minute. I am not sure if friends of employees or the employees themselves are leaving these reviews but do not believe the "5 star " reviews....
