When you visit a small town like Gatlinburg, you are certain to spend a good deal of your time walking the streets, from one attraction to the next. You will likely not have a defined plan and will just walk into whatever happens to catch your eye. One such place that I ended up visiting unexpectedly is Mountain Mall.
Mountain Mall is not like other shopping centers. It has multiple levels, but it is small overall. There are not tons of stores and you won’t find the usual anchor stores common to larger shopping centers, but the stores are unique, and this alone makes it worth a look. Inside, one will find clothing stores, music, candles, cowboy gear, and misc. gifts.
To add to the eye- appeal, Mountain Mall has some fountains/mills with moving water. This gives the inside a country- feel. The halls are narrow, so it can get crowded. One fact I found annoying was getting to the restrooms. They are on the top floor, so you need to hike all the way to level F to get your needed relief.
Mountain Mall has a cidery on one end and this, in fact, is what led me to check out the mall in the first place. I stopped to taste the cider, then noticed the mall and took a walk through the floors, all the way to the top. I can see how this mall is a little limiting and a little outdated. But I still like the quaint look and feel.
Gatlinburg is best explored on foot and Mountain Mall is a good place to spend some time, and money. There are several unique shops in this mall and it’s small enough that you can easily walk through the entire place in a short time, stopping at stores that catch your attention, and loading up on souvenirs and gifts for...
Read moreMy wife and I wandered into Mountain Mall on a whim—no agenda, just a casual stroll through Gatlinburg. What we found was a six-level maze of local shops, each with its own personality and a touch of mountain soul. It’s not your polished, corporate mall—it’s a throwback to the kind of indoor shopping experience that feels like a community gathering spot. We browsed everything from handcrafted leather goods to hot sauces, pet fashion, and Smoky Mountain-themed shirts. One shop had Appalachian folk music playing softly in the background, and another had a moonshine still on display next to a 30-foot indoor fountain. It’s the kind of place where you don’t just shop—you explore. The layout is a bit of a labyrinth, which added to the fun. We found ourselves doubling back to check out a shop we missed the first time. The cedar walls, whiskey barrel trash cans, and historical photos of Gatlinburg gave it a cozy, lived-in feel. It’s clear the Ogle family, who owns the mall, put heart into preserving the town’s heritage. We didn’t walk out with bags full of purchases, but we left with something better—a shared moment of discovery, laughter, and appreciation for the kind of place that doesn’t try to be trendy. It just is. And that’s exactly...
Read moreThey are not kidding when they say "Mountain Mall", it's indeed not your average mall, and has almost no typical stores you would find in a common mall present.
It's littered with unique stores and personal shops, much like you may find on the strip, but in the convenience of a mall like setting.
It's multiple floors, I lost track, but not an incredible amount in each store, or on each floor, in general.
I'm still ify, on this place. I am thinking, it's just not for me, but, the shops I did enter were all frequented by friendly staff and its very fitting for the area.
If you're looking for local, unique, or touristy things its a great way to beat the heat and find some cheap deals, but, may not be...
