Why I give Downtown a 5 Star? My story is too long to post but I can’t say enough wonderful words about Shelly and her Husband. I came to the Area on a Travel Nurse Job, after being off for 3 years with 2 cancers and Lupus Crisis, I packed my bags and headed out with 60.00 in my pocket, flat broke and lost everything from illness and lost my father, my best friend so it made matters worse. I hired into probably the worst nursing travel agency out there and after not getting paid, I decided to take a full time nursing job in Gaylord, and after the hotel in peteosky jacked my room cost up from 407.00 to 1000.00 a week ( memorial weekend) I desperately needed to find somewhere to go reasonably. The downtown hotel was the first one I called and here I am, they offer great weekly rates to healthcare staff/travel. I’ve had a lot of roadblocks and was between jobs for 2 weeks. Shelly and Her Husband have been very kind and caring to my situation. I would like to clear up a few things about this motel, first of all I am a nurse, I’ve been a homeowner times two and I am perfectly comfortable and happy right where I’m at. I actually I feel safer here then I did in the 12x12 room In Petoskey. My room here is huge, I have not seen anything Out of the ordinary, I worked emergency medicine for 20 years and I’ve come across million personalities, addicts, and Criminals and everything catches my eyes. Times have changed and I wouldn’t listen to what other people have to say I’m very happy staying here until I can get on my feet. I got a permanent and awesome job here and Gaylord is beautiful. The Care and compassion that Shelley has provided for my situation and understanding of my struggles far exceeds anything I’ve ever experienced in my life especially staying at hotels. So come on to downtown hotel when you’re in the Gaylord area, come stay here maybe you’ll see me and a few other very kind people that I’ve ran into along the way. Thank you Downtown Motel for helping me remain in this area. I love Gaylord, it’s going to change my life and I’m doing what I promised myself I would and that is to make Gaylord my...
Read moreQuite inexpensive older motel very well-placed in town and not at all far from the freeway. Very clean and well-stocked. There was a rather strong and annoying odor when we first got there, fairly quickly dissipated by running the air conditioning unit at full blast for a while so would guess is that it was a combination of cleaning chemicals and no air circulation. That same units was the only source of complaints in that its temperature control was damaged, the target temperature could only be lowered not raised. Also could not get the TV to work but only played around with it for a few minutes as did not really care. Would probably stay here again when only looking for a place to sleep after a long day and then back...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusting. It’s cheap and the price is still way too high. The woman in the office walks around completely barefoot. The man “cleaning” is a walking cigarette. The room smelled so badly like stale cigarettes you would think he was smoking while servicing the room. The walls are beyond dirty. The mirrors looked greasy to the point you could hardly see in them. The toilet didn’t flush. The bedsheets were not clean. Had brown crusty spots on them. There was a bloody booger on the pillow. The bathtub was brown obviously never properly cleaned. We literally spent 5 mins in the room before taking the key back down to the office. Unless your into staying in something worse than a trap house don’t even consider...
