One word describes our experience, "perfection". We ordered the Shrimp Wanton Tacos with Cottage Cheese, Atlantic Cod with Sweet Potato Fries & Onion Rings, and lastly the Kids Pizza with Pepperoni and a "Rock Candy Kiddy Cocktail". All of the fried food was completely void of grease as well as not having an oily flavor. All of the original flavors shined through. The shrimp Wanton Tacos reminded us of a "real" version of the Applebee's Wanton Tacos. The sauce and apple slaw paired perfectly with the heaping mound of included shrimp. The Wanton itself was perfectly crisped. The Cottage Cheese was the correct consistency and very fresh. The Atlantic Cod was lightly fried and also devoid of grease often found inside fried fish. You could tell the Cod was as fresh as you could get it here in Michigan. The sweet potato fries tasted like sweet potato in the best way possible, they paired well with honey mustard to make a sweet tasting side. The onion rings were crispy and contained onions that were not too thick or thin and tasted sweet and did not leave an onion taste. The rings paired amazingly with the house made ranch. My son devoured his kids pizza, and he is a picky eater. It appeared to be pan cooked. The cocktail was a fun treat that was also enjoyed by my son. We will definitely be...
Read moreWe had our family Christmas lunch, i dud not choose this location, and we were limited to food we could order because we had 15 or more people. We were told it was to make it easier on the kitchen staff, so clearly not there for the customer. My fish looked like it was left over, them dipped in even more batter and fried again, it was so chewy and heavily battered. The fries were barely warm and really chewy, also like they were leftover and cooked again. So the limited menu obviously did not help the kitchen staff and it wasn't even busy in there. No other staffwould help our waitress, so I ended up have to clear dirty dishes from our table. This place has really gone down hill in the last year or so. Do not recommend.
Went for dinner today, it was not good at all. The place is going downhill. Won't be back.
We were the first people in the door when it opened. Got our drinks and appetizer fast, waited a while for our meals, were told they just opened and were doing prep. Uh, that should be done before you open. Then, my friend paid with cash and only got bills back in change, when she asked where the coin change was, we were told they don't keep loose change there, so they just keep your money. Pretty sure that's theft. Would have been different if we had been informed of this...
Read moreWow...just wow. Passing through town on our travels, my husband and I stayed the night in Gaylord, and chose Alpine Tavern to pick up food. What I though would just be standard bar fare turned out to be so much more. The kind woman who took our order over the phone asked only for my first name and said she didn't need a phone or credit card number which made us feel like we'd stumbled onto a real hometown in America, the likes of which barely exist anymore. When I went in to pick up the order I had to wait a few minutes. There was a musician playing guitar and singing; while his talent was obvious, it was his interaction with the patrons that I appreciated the most. I listened as he spoke about his music and how he chose songs and where to play. Once back at our hotel with the food, we were shocked how good everything was, every item far exceeding our expectations. The fried pickles spears were perfectly crispy and served with a delicious, creamy sauce. The brisket grilled cheese with brie and bacon jam was a delightful combination of flavors. The beer-battered perch were perfectly cooked. We also had a Cobb salad which included fresh, quality ingredients. We will be passing through again I'm sure and this will definitely be on our list of stops! It should be on...
